Some railroad tracks on the south side of town (the sticks)
While on the way home, a bus full of first and second graders broke down while driving across these railroad tracks. Rather than going to look for help, the driver told the children to get off the bus and push it across the tracks; they were struck down by a train. Now it is said that if one drives to the site and puts the car in neutral, it will be pushed over the tracks. Allegedly if one spreads baby powder on the back of the car before going to the site, he will see fingerprints when he leavesÉ
This area was once the hiding place of choice for many outlaws. Many years ago, a woman threw her small child off this bridge. Supposedly, the baby's cry may still be heard at night.
This house was the site of Indiana's most atrocious murders. A man came home after a tough day at work and snapped. He decapitated his entire family and placed their heads on fence posts. Before police arrived, the man shot himself in the mouth. Today, the house is haunted. Many have seen heads strewn throughout the house upon first glance only to later see them disappear.
Presently the site of East McDowell Jr. High, an orphanage once stood on these grounds. One night, the orphanage was set ablaze. Everyone escaped safely, but six small children returned to the inferno to save their pets. Only three of the six survived. It is said that if one stands on the tennis courts of the school around midnight, the screeching of burning animals and children may be heard.
It is said that in front of one particular house, the Ghost of Avenel may be seen walking. The woman is said to wear a long white dress and carries a parasol. Allegedly the woman used to live in the house that is now owned by the Bedford Historical Society.
In a small town called Port Willunga in Australia the Star of Greece ship crashed at the beach. They brought the dead men's bodies back to a Pub in Aldinga and layed the bodies there. They say if you go down to the ruins now the ghosts will get you and you will never be seen again. They also say an underground tunnel led from Pub to Pub.
