This house is said to have been owned by Black Beard the Pirate. Once, Black Beard saw one of his crew members dancing with his girlfriend and consequently beheaded the man on the stairs. It is said that now, more than two hundred years later, blood stains eventually become visible again though the stairs have been sanded, painted, and carpeted.
The house is reported to be haunted by the Mayo family. In a fit of rage, Mr. Mayo killed his family and then hanged himself. It is said that if one approaches the house at night, he will be chased by dogs. The family will then come outside, get the dog, and invite the person inside. It is said that upon entering the house one will see a rope dangling the stair well. Suddenly, the rope and the family will vanish.
Belcourt does not necessarily seem to be haunted by its owners or any members of the large staff that worked there for decades. Rather, it seems Belcourt is haunted because of some of the antiques in its collection. Furnished with art and trappings from more than 30 different countries, Belcourt has a lovely Gothic ballroom featuring haunted chairs. Some visitors have reported feeling chills race up and down their spine while standing near the chairs, others have reported strange sensations of energyÉ
This store sits atop the foundation of an old mansion. One day, a former resident cut off his hands while chopping wood; he still lurks around the premises. The spirit has been known to knock over boxes in the store late at night. Cameras were set up at one time to capture the nightly occurrences; a shadowy figure was seen walking up and down each aisle.
This house is said to be haunted by two different ghosts. One man appears to be the present owner�s father. He has allegedly been seen holding his great-granddaughter in an upstairs window. A grayish-smoke like figure has also been reported to pass through people in the home's kitchen. As the basement was being renovated, an unexplained swastika was found built into the linoleum floor. There were also large amounts of very old ammunition located in the ceiling.
Now a state monument, this school was the site of a huge fire in the early twentieth century. Over one hundred people died because the doors in the school opened inwardly rather than outwardly, preventing escape. Residents that live near the school have reported seeing a light come on in one room, traverse the hall and go back from whence it came. Police investigated and found no one living in the building.
