Real Haunted House

Banff Springs Hotel

Banff, Alberta

In the 1920s, a young bride was descending the spiral staircase from the bridal suite, en route to her wedding. On the way, her long, flowing dress was set ablaze by the candles lining the staircase. While attempting to extinguish the flames, she slipped, falling down the staircase and resultantly breaking her neck. Employees of the hotel have reportedly heard strange noises emanate from the bridal suite when it is not being occupied. They have also seen a figure in a long, flowing dress descending the stairs. The dress of the apparition will then catch on fire, and the figure will vanish.

You guys are dumb leaving posts up of your relationships. Go to a chat room if you want some advice about what to do. This place is reserved for comments about the topic and plus no one wants to read your problem. At least I don’t.

I have a question about the Banff Springs Hotel. If the employees are not allowed to talk about it, can you still get into investigate? If so, does anyone know how? I mean they have to talk about it a little or we would not know, nor would most of the world, that this place is haunted. Anyone know how to get in for an investigation though? I would love to investigate there and record for some e.v.p.!

Does anyone know if they allow investigations at the Banff Springs Hotel?

I stayed at the Banff Springs over the Nov. 17th 2007 weekend, and I wasn’t aware that the hotel was haunted. I had some real strange experiences throught my stay, and captured the following pictures. You be the judge: http://picasaweb.google.com/DeltaKV/BanffSprings

Delta, those are some great photos of the haunted areas around the Banff Springs Hotel. I’d be very interested in hearing more about your ghostly encounters at the hotel. — Fiona, at Hollow Hill

I used to work in the banff springs hotel in 1978 – I used to clean the Rob Roy dining room in the day time.
I used to hear people talking every day. I figured out there was spirits there. I had a small bucket dissapear when I left it for about 30 seconds to answer the phone ( which hung up ) One time I was fasinated by a wood carved coat of arms plaque on the wall I had never seen before I walked about 20 feet away and I had the feeling to look to the left and the plaque was leaning against the wall on a bus tray trolley. I used to swap stories with the night cleaner and he eventually quit and someone said he saw a table flip upside down in front of him. Alot of things happening were near this marble stairway. I didn’t know of the stories at the time. I was telling friends of things happening and one night 3 of us went into the room and sat near the stairway to prove to them my stories were true. 2 of us heard a person breathing with a raspy breath like a smoker – we left the room and heard another set of footsteps walking behind us – then we ran – (2 of us the other guy stayed there) we went back to the room where everyone was waiting to hear what happened. we went back for our friend and sat some more – we heard a terrifying scream coming from the stairway in a womans voice. we all ran out after that one! I think I transfered to bus boy at another dining room after that. shortly after I read in some book store in Banff about some fire in the stairway. There was definetly more than on spirit, I was not normally scared – I always had the feeling that “we just want you to know we’re here” … interesting experience – Glenn

Hey all, My husband and myself stayed at the Banff springs hotel for our honeymoon from April 13, 2008-April 16, 2008 and we were unaware that it was haunted. We stayed in the honeymoon suite room 807 and the only weird experience we had was our first night there. I was sleeping but my husband woke hearing someone walking up the stairs to the bedroom at the foot of the bed he seen a dark image standing at the foot of the bed by this time I awoke asking if he had heard a noise like someone walking up the stairs and he explained what he saw. We both figured it being a strange and old place the noise being pipes creaking and the room playing tricks on our minds but the next morning when we awoke we were complaining that the room was really warm I went downstairs to make coffee and he stayed in bed another couple minutes and the window at the foot of the bed opened up letting the breeze into the room. We are just guessing if it was a ghost he was just trying to be helpful. But we both have full intentions of going back and checking it out one day.

I visited beautifuly Banff in May of 2006. We went to the Banff Springs hotel just to check it out because it looks so gorgeous. Ihad the most uneasy feeling right away. We walked through the hotel and down the halls and I started to feel absolutely terrified. Then I became nauseous and told my friend that I had a feeling something horrible had happnened at the hotel. I felt it. I’ve never been so affected by a place in my life. I left as soon as possible and when I got outside I almost threw up. I never knew the hotel was haunted until now. Obviously, my subconscious mind knew of the uneasy spirits because I got so sick!

I worked at the Banff Springs for 3 years. Never saw the bride (honestly think this story is totally fabricated, I tried to find any record of such an event and couldn’t…) also can tell you that during the time I was there at least, staff were not given instructions about what they could or could not discuss with guests vis a vis hauntings. Also the story about “873″ was linked to a different room when I was there, although the story at that time was that the room had to be redecorated and then could be rented out again, not boarded up…

Having said that, I did have some odd experiences, the strangest one was early in my time there when I was a chambermaid and doing a room check in the morning. I saw a guest go into a room but when I got to that room, it (and all the other rooms on that side of the hallway) was out of order (stripped and being renovated) and there was no one to be found in any of them. I was never out of sight of the room I saw the man go into and no one else was on the floor at that time. Was either the 3rd or 6th floor, can’t remember.

I worked at the Banff Springs in 2004-2005.. while I was there I never encountered anything too mysterious!
I used to clean a section on the 8th floor, including the honeymoon suite. In that room it would be extremely HOTT!! I would check the thermostat and it was always off! I was always so nervous cleaning that section of the hotel.
When we had our orientation we were told all of the different stories, from the bellhop, to the bride, to the family killed in one of the rooms, to the child who died in one of the bathtubs.
My boyfriend also worked there, and he was a night cleaner. One night while cleaning the bowling alley area of the hotel, he heard something telling him it was 6am. He was the only one in the place at the time. (He unlocked the door on the door on the way in and locked it behind him.)
After he heard someone telling him it was 6am he grabbed the broom and started hollaring at him.
He was telling one of the managers about it and they told him of a bartender that was killed and that he would tell people that it was 6am and time to go to bed.
I was also startled by a guest one night that swore that she seen something in the mirror in one of the washrooms. I thought it was because she was intoxicated, but then i read stories about the same thing.
I am kind of glad that I am no longer there, but I would love to go back to investigate some more. I am going to look through some of my pictures and see if I can find anything.

I went to the Banff Springs Hotel when I was 14 years old, so 1979. I absolutely felt so in love and energized by this place. I told my mom that I was going to get married here. It wasn’t a wish, more of a premonition. I lived in Vancouver at the time. 19 years later, I was dating a man who lived Calgary, he asked me to marry him and low and behold, Banff Springs Hotel was only an hour drive from his place. I actually got married in the church in town, but we had our reception at Mt. Stephen Hall. We later stayed in the bridal suite (if it’s the one with the spiral stairs, jacuzzi and upstairs bedroom). It was the most amazing and happiest day of my life. I am so in love with this hotel and I can’t wait to go there for our 10 year anniversary. If there are ghosts there, they must be my relatives or best friends because they are so nice to me.

I worked at the Banff Springs Hotel for six years, and never, ever saw anything. I believe it’s nothing more than a ploy to tempt people to stay there. It’s a lovely building, and hosts beautiful grounds, but is it haunted? No it isn’t.

I used to work at the hotel doing night time security and there are things that happened that can’t be explained. I’ve seen reflections in mirrors that were not my own, I’ver heard childerens laughter at 3am with no one in sight, I’ve had lights turn on and off on me for no reason.

I am doing HISTORICA on it though.
ANY STORIES FOR ME?
It would really help.
