Real Haunted House

Banff Springs Hotel

Banff, Alberta

In the 1920s, a young bride was descending the spiral staircase from the bridal suite, en route to her wedding. On the way, her long, flowing dress was set ablaze by the candles lining the staircase. While attempting to extinguish the flames, she slipped, falling down the staircase and resultantly breaking her neck. Employees of the hotel have reportedly heard strange noises emanate from the bridal suite when it is not being occupied. They have also seen a figure in a long, flowing dress descending the stairs. The dress of the apparition will then catch on fire, and the figure will vanish.

Sure Looran:

In the month of January 2005, myself and another night time security guard were walking through the Conservatory. The conservatory is located in the back of the hotel, 2nd Public floor near the Rundle lounge. The Conservatory is also conveniently located near the “Burning Bride Stair Case”. The Conservatory has two public access points: The main doors, and a hallway lined with mirrors. I was walking down the hallway with my partner 10 feet behind me. I looked at the mirrors and saw my reflection along with my partners reflection. I also saw a third reflection further down the mirrors. The figure stood there. I glanced back at my partner and then looked at where the reflection was. It was no longer there. We ran into the Conservatory lounge area but saw no one. And no signs of anyone being there. Thing like that happened to each of us that worked nights there. Usually when you least expect it.

My husband and I stayed at the Banff Springs hotel in 1997. We had heard the story of the bride who caught fire and fell down the stairs. They had the stairway blocked off. After having dinner one night I convinced my husband to take my picture on that staircase. We returned home, I had my photos developed and was looking through them. The picture that was taken on the staircase, had several bright white orbs blocking most of me on the staircase. On the step that I was stepping down on, had two little white orbs on the step. When I saw this I got chills. I felt like it was the bride and she didn’t like me up there. I thought maybe it could be the flashing on the camera or something so I took it to a photo place and they couldn’t explain it. I never sent the photo to the hotel but I’m thinking about it.

I visited my brother who’s living in Calgary, and we decided to make a day trip to Banff. We took a tour into the hotel and it was amazing from inside. It became dark so we decided to just sleep in the car and next morning head back to Calgary. We parked somewhere near the hotel, by the river where you can see the water falls. At around 3:00am I woke up on the sound of very loud human footsteps, just came like a snap very near to the car, to wake me and my brother instantly. We couldn’t see or hear anything later, and we couldn’t sleep either. I just knew today from this site that the hotel is haunted, and I believe the area surrounding it too!
