They were accused of raping and killing a young white girl and they were hanged outside the local tavern. A few years later, a white man confessed to raping and killing the young girl. The tavern still stands in downtown Brainerd and sometimes at night when the bar closes, people have reported hearing the cries of Indian people and the beating of drums.
