In 1985 Cleveland resident lived in this in the house for 3 years and saw, as well as heard and felt many spooky things. Her young son actually had conversations with on of the ghosts, who, as they found out later, was the man who built the house. There is nothing weird about the history of the house other than it stayed in the same family from the time it was built untill it was bought by this resident. The builder, his wife, their daughter and her husband all died in the house of age/health-related problems. Incidentally, it is located right down the street from Franklin Castle, a notorious Cleveland home!

This property was owned by Robert Hemp and it is said that he is buried beneath the front porch. Every person that has lived in the house has reported many strange noises and figures of a man in a top hat. One family said that while they always kept the heater on eighty, one room in the basement would be freezing cold. Another family kept a Bible open in the living room to a certain verse. Allegedly, each time they left home and returned, they would find the Bible on another verse–the verse which was read at Hemp’s funeral.

In the mid 1800s a young hunk named James Henry lived in the area. In love with two different women, the man could not decide which one he wanted to marry. When he fell asleep one night, instead of pulling the man and the buggy home, the horse took him to the house of one of the young ladies. James then decided to marry her. The two were happy for a long time until the woman became ill and died. James visited Otterbein Cemetery everyday to put flowers on his wife’s grave. One day at the cemetery, he saw the other young woman he had been courting before marrying his first wife. The two quickly became romantically involved and soon married. He stopped going to the grave of his first wife and soon all the flowers died. One day, a passerby saw a bloody horseshoe on the woman’s tombstone. He told James that it was an ill omen, but James did not listen. The next day, James’s new wife found him dead in the horse stables–there was an imprint of a horseshoe in his forehead. Now when its foggy, it is said that one may hear horse’s hoofs going up and down Otterbein Road.

There have been reports of hearing loud voices in the next room when the next room is empty. Visitors have also said to hear someone walking within the walls of the building as well as the hallway. Inside the inn, there is also one door that will not stay shut, even after 2 by 4s and nails have been used.

Late one night a car pulled up to one females house and started flashing the lights and honking the horn. Fearing that it was the rapist, the young lady called her beau to come and protect her. Hurriedly trying to reach his love, the man was killed trying to make a sharp turn on his motorcycle. Allegedly, if one goes to the site of the girls house and flashes his lights and honks his horn, the light of the motorcycle may be seen coming around the bend.
