Marshall University in Huntington, WV is not only home to academias and co-eds, but also to some spirits. There are several places around campus that are haunted.
Home to thousands of mentally ill people, this asylum in Weston, WV, opened in 1864.Â Also known as the Weston State Hospital, the asylum was originally designed to house 250 beds, which grew tremendously over the years.Â At times, resident numbers peaked at 2,400, which lead to overcrowding, extremely poor conditions and infrastructure deterioration.Â Due to this, the asylum closed its doors in 1994.
Noted as one of American's most violent correctional facilities, the Moundsville Penitentiary in West Virginia was the final stop for 1,000 criminals in it's 100+ years of existence.Â Several riots occurred at this prison over the years due to the poor, cramped conditions the prisoners had to endure.
