High schools are most definitely places infamous for vicious and quickly-spread rumors, but not many can compare to Anniston High School in Alabama. Here, the horrific story is told repeatedly by the older students in order to frighten the new freshmen girls. And although the events actually occurred, the details have (not surprisingly) gotten twisted and exaggerated over the past ten years.
While Franklin Castle in Ohio is a large and beautifully constructed building, it is far from a fairytale mansion. Countless deaths and cruel murders have taken place within its walls, leading Franklin Castle to be considered Ohio’s most haunted places.
If you spend time visiting the little town of Beaufort, no doubt you’ll be confronted with the locals’ stories about ghosts and pirates, especially Blackbeard. The notorious captain (as well as other pirates) has certainly left his mark on this quiet seaside village, murdering many villagers, lovers, and crewmates who later came back to haunt the living. The Buxton Inn, located in a small Ohio town, is said to be home to the state’s “friendliest” haunts. Only a few ghosts reside here, each with their own personality and history.
You can sleep in the bed Jesse James spent the night in, play poker at the same table as Pat Garret and have a drink at the same bar as Buffalo Bill and Wyatt Earp. At the St. James Hotel in Cimarron, New Mexico, you can have the chance to not only see where your favorite historical Wild West figure spent their time, but you may be able to see their paranormal selves as well.
His legend lives on well beyond his earthly time, and now, with the resurgence of pirate literature, pirate movies and a general fascination with all things pirate, it seems only fitting we introduce the legend of Blackbeard’s ghost.
