Real Haunted House

Bourbon House

Cleveland, Ohio

In 1985 Cleveland resident lived in this in the house for 3 years and saw, as well as heard and felt many spooky things. Her young son actually had conversations with on of the ghosts, who, as they found out later, was the man who built the house. There is nothing weird about the history of the house other than it stayed in the same family from the time it was built untill it was bought by this resident. The builder, his wife, their daughter and her husband all died in the house of age/health-related problems. Incidentally, it is located right down the street from Franklin Castle, a notorious Cleveland home!

Just to let all doubters and “nonbelievers” know that this story is completely true. I am the young child (now grown up obviously) who lived in the house from 1984-1987. The old man that I used to speak to was named George and we found out through the genealogy of the home that he in fact built the house and died in it. his wife and daughter did as well. We had many strange occurrences that happened to us while we lived in the home, which i would be more than willing to share with anyone who was interested.

I have just starting to almost believe in this stuff. I am still not sure what to believe. my husband and two kids and i have just moved into this house we bought off of a family member. We have been here for a little over two years now. before that it was owned by family members for the last 20 years. it has been passed down for a little while but my family was not the origional owners or anything. I swear my family members were right about it being haunted. At first i thought they were just trying to scare me and it didn’t work. but now i know they weren’t joking. I have had several people that lived here before tell me that they seen, and heard things here. My husband and i had just laid down for bed one night, the kids were fast asleep downstairs in front of the t.v. The kids bedrooms are upstairs but they fell asleep downstairs in the room next to mine. my bedroom door was open and i could see the kids from where i was laying. But my husband and i heard loud footsteps running upstairs. so i got up to see which one of my kids got up. NEITHER. yeah i was scared because I know what i heard and so did my husband. well when my aunt and uncle lived here they seen a old couple that looked like they were dressed in wedding atire, but my aunt said that the man looked like he was wearing a war uniform of some sort. One day when my aunt and uncle were still living here but were not home at the time, another family member came over to drop something off. He walked in the house knowing that no one was home. He set some things down and went to leave the house when he said he heard someone calling his name from upstairs and it was loud and plain as day. So he went to look and no one was there, so he said he left in a big hurry because he was “freaked out”. after my aunt and uncle had moved out of this house, my brother and his wife bought it and moved in right away. We ended up staying with them for a month when times were tough for us. And one day while my brother and his wife were at work, my husband got home from work and he and i had a few beers and played cards. While we were sitting at the table a large can of beer that had been sitting on the table with us, just flew off of the table. I jumped up off of my seat! It was right beside me before it flew off the table. I could not believe my eyes! My husband and i got up and looked around to see if there was any possible way this could have happened…no breeze threw the window, no nothing. That got my heart going. Well we hear noises once in a while but i try to just ignor it. The other night i was laying in bed and it felt like someone had gently tugged on the back of my night gown, i wasn’t all the way asleep but that scared me so much i layed still and didn’t move and then it felt like a hand touched my on my behind. Alarmed and scared to death i jumped up and ran around the bed and made my husband scoot over. He was so tired he didn’t really “wake up” he just scooted over. I was terrified because i know i felt that and there was nothing or no way i could explain it. I could not sleep anymore that night. I stayed awake until my husband got up. I was very scared. But i didn’t see anything so try explaining that. No one would believe you if you told them that. And besides what could you do about it anyways? Nothing. And then there was what happened today, about an hour ago. I was talking with my little girl and she had watched a kids cartoon and it was a “talking house”. Nothing scary but she still asked me out loud if houses have hearts, i told her no they dont and that’s not real. It was just a silly cartoon. Ok she agreed. suddenly while we were sitting there a very large tripple layered knicknack shelf full of knicknacks, flys off the wall and i am sitting here still wondering how that just happend because i just put it up 2 days ago and i screwed screws into the wall and one of the screws were litterly ripped out of the wall and barley hanging there. i took a couple of pictures of it with my cell phone to show my husband. I cant believe it! What do you think about that? someone please comment. I have a hard time believing this stuff but it is getting weirder and weirder around here.

I am the owner that Robert was referring to in the original post. I lived at what is now Bourbon House for three years as he stated in the post. We bought the house from the estate of the daughter of the man who built the house in 1895. When I moved in, everything was in close to original condition. There had been some modern improvements, such as electricity and plumbing, but all of the original fixtures were in place, and much of the old wallpaper was still on the walls of many of the rooms.

The previous owner of the house had burned coal for heat, so there was a layer of coal dust over EVERYTHING. I was over at the house prior to moving in and was cleaning in one of the upstairs bedrooms. I remember the feeling of being watched, and I looked up and out the bedroom door. There, on the landing of the staircase was a foggy outline of a person–almost like steam or mist. The shape was clearly discernable as a person, but bby the time I blinked and looked again, it had disappeared. I didn’t think too much about it, although it startled me at the time.

When we moved in, my son was almost 2 years old. There were lots of occasions where we would hear or see things, such as hearing voices and footsteps coming from the third floor ballroom as well as seeing shadows out of the corner of our eyes. One time we heard music box music coming from what sounded like the bedroom above the living room, but when we checked upstairs it sounded like it was coming from downstairs. We never could figure out exactly where it came from, but it went away after a few minutes.

There were a lot of other weird things and feelings in the house, but the incident that sealed everything in my mind was after the birth of my daughter when we moved my son into the back bedroom. I went into his room in the morning and heard him having an animated conversation with himself, or so I thought! He kept telling me he was talking to the old man, George, and became insistent that he was in the corner of the room. He said he played with George a lot and talked with him a lot. When I checked the original blueprints of the house, I found out that the man who built the house was, indeed, named George.

It is a lovely home, and I never felt unsafe or that the spirits there were unfriendly. In fact, I really miss the house terribly!

i have a story to tell… i was living in an apartment when i was 5 or 6 years old. It was very spooky there my baby brother would always cry in the middle of the night. My mother told me to never go next door i was very obidient and listened well to her instructions. One night while my grandma was visiting she heard a screaming girl next door. She heard loud bangs and an hour later she heard a broken piano i found it very wierd because there was nobody living next door. The next night while my father woke up to tend to my crying brother he heard a ‘pop! goes the weasel’ song coming from the toy basket… funny that toy can only work if someone pulls a string at the end of the box… after many encounters we moved out of the apartment no one has been living there since… I hope you enjoyed the story because i didn’t !

I honestly can say I had experiences in my life and for many years this has followed me and haunted people around me. I was always told as a little girl to never tell the stories because people will think you are crazy. So experiences I had, I never spoke of them except to my mom. They were manageable until I was 22 yrs old. Then it got stronger and more vivid. I never ever felt alone. Something or someone watch me and followed me every where I went. It would do things to let me know its still there, from moving things, hiding things, lights off and on, to taking covers off at night or moving my bed. Just like the movie “paranormal activity” the movie, the girl told mikia about, how she felt and it got stronger when he played with the juji board. Same thing happen to me. That movie as to hear many people say it’s not scary. Well when it’s happening to you and follows you no matter where you move to, it’s like seeing your on life on the movie screen. I will say this, there are many stories on here that people are telling that are pleasant and unexplainable. But for the non believers these things are real. I could tell you many many stories about experiences I had, including from me ignoring it and it attacking my children just to get to me. I can now say after 20 some years, I now have peace. But trust me becareful on your haunts and games. These things are real and has more control over you than you will or could imagine. I still love to hear and read and go to find scary places to investigate. But make sure you never open a gate or door that you can’t close. It’s been amazing now I can live my life without fear.
