Real Haunted Houses

Real Haunted House

Abandoned House

Columbus, Ohio

It is said that whoever lives in this house is savagely murdered by something unknown. After two people were found dead in the 1960s, the house stayed empty until the late 1980s when it was occupied by a cult. Two years later, flashing lights were seen coming from the house; police found eight decapitated bodies. It is said that if one goes to the site, there will be eight ghosts that will carry on conversations with one another. It is also said that the shadow of a body may been seen in a tree near the house.

Yes, this is true. There was a ritual killing in the house, said to be Satanic, but you know how stories get warped over time. I remember hearing about the murders and nobody was ever caught. I know a lot about this because I grew up in Worthington and the house is right next to the Pontifical College on State Route 23, just north of I-270. If you’re heading north, the house is just past the college, up on a hill yet close to the road. If you are familiar with that area before it really started to grow and develop, the house is right at the head of where Lazelle Road came out on Route 23. I believe the Satanic aspect came into this because of it’s close proximity to such a holy place (the Pontifical college), yet there could be some truth to it as well. I have never been in the house. I was too scared. But, you CAN see in some of the windows and it looks like there is a lot of bloodstains on the floor. It could be paint or some kind of prank, but NOBODY will live in that house, and it has been vacant since I was a little girl. People have moved into it and then moved out less than a year later. I was 7 when the cult killing happened. I’m sure you can research it through the Columbus Dispatch archives, or even the Worthington Suburban newspaper.

Yeah the story is a little scary, but then you have the ghetto there. That’s scarier. If you can drive through most of that city at night, i don’t see why you would be scared of that place. Down town is alot worse.

This house is on the west side of Route 23 at the intersection of 23 and Flint Road. It’s a beautiful old house and I believe folks do live there now. I live quite near there and have seen lights in the house at night and it was decorated for Christmas last year. I’d like to see inside it just because it’s a really nice old house!

sinister says:

August 16, 2006, 11:37 am

What a crock, no mention of satanic ritual killings in local paper archives. You must remember that 75-80 % of ghosthunting is “urban legends” or just plain flat out lies. I’ve been investigating and researching hauntings for nearly 20 years, and actual ones are few and far between.

And listening to your commment, and i have also heard something like this before, my friends told me about something like this but they were to scared to go and check it out. So if you could give me the address and a pic i would really appreciate it. Because i would like to see for myself. thank you

IF you live around the New Albany/Gahanna area, there is a house that is haunted… I know this because I went there. My friends and I went there and were just about to go in until i saw a figure, or what i thought was a figure leave the window. We started to go inside when a knock came from inside. We ran like hell and the walk back to the car was freaky because there were bones off animals and what not on the side of the raod, and it felt like someone was walking behind me the entire time. Ive never been back. This story just reminded me of it, so I thought I would share mine.

I read this, then I read all the comments. I was just wondering if this is the house that was recently in the news. A man and his mother lives there and a month or so ago some teenagers from Worthington High were messing around the house because they heard it was haunted and, I guess, he shot one of the girls. I can’t remember her name, but last I heard she was in a coma, and he is up on charges. I just wondered if this is the same house.

well the only thing i can say is that unless i see it i can believe it. i think those things can be real because it happened to me once when i was 7 years old but at the same time i think it could also be a fake because this has never been seen before at least that i know. thanks for reading and letting me share my ideas.

To be honest with you, most of theese places on here or on a lot of theese sites are bull. I’ve gone to an abandoned orphinage in Looserville (louisville) and pretty much all it is is wierd when its dark. Other than that its a pretty boring place. Go there in the dark and its a little wierd, you cant see 2 inches in front of you and there are underground tunnels as well. There were two seperate buildings and one of them burnt down. Basically its a cool place to go get trast at, if the cops dont show!

Adam says:

October 18, 2006, 2:23 pm

The house was built in 78. I cant find if that is 1978 or 1878 but from the way the house looks, I’ll say 1878. It was bought by a reverend in 1987. It’s landuse is classified as “other residential” where as family homes are “family dwellings”. The house is along Rt. 23 (N High Street) just passed the Pontifical College on the right hand side, just north of I-270. Its up on a ledge above the street. You’d have to take college roads to get to it. PLEASE NOTE: I DO NOT CONDONE TRESPASSING ON TO PRIVATE PROPERTY. I gave the info so maybe if you were driving along the road, you would know where to view it. Also note around Christmas time, the front has some decorations on it, meaning someone is probably looking after it. To one of the previous post where the cheerleader was shot, that was south of 161 near High St.

Theres two other haunted houses in the gahanna/pataskala area (which is right outside of columbus)

Theyre both of of Waggoner road halfway between pataskala and reynoldsberg.

Both are abandoned.
The first one is just creepy all over the inside and you can hear a lot of weird things, but in the basement theres a single spotlight that works somehow and its a big dirt room with about 10 dirt tunnels that star in the room.

The second one is even creepier because somehow all of the lights work. All of the floors are covered in old newspapers and weird pictures that look like someone was stalking anouther person. Then in the attic theres a table in the center of the room that says “mouse trap” on a peice of paper.

My friend was dumb enough to steal an old bible from the first house and tons of bad, horrible things happened. For example, I got in a 75 mph head on collision. After that he returned the bible, but weve all sworn to never, ever go back.

My dad said friends of his went there when they were younger and got chased out of the driveway by some crazy looking caretaker (They’re guessing thats who he was)…. Does anyone have any info on that house or any other “supposably” haunt places in the columbus, Pickerington, Pataskala area? If so please email me at:

Also I’ve heard about the bridge down by campus where supposably some guy hung his wife there. They say the nail is still there. If you decide to check it out let me know the results!

Hey All, I lived accross from this Haunted House for almost 13 Years. I have yet to hear about this haunted house story and trust me i’m a big haunted house freak and so is my family. If this is so true give me more information, to back your evidence up. give me more specific dates of the deaths and i’ll research it. Flint Road is where i lived i could look out my window and see this house i would’ve seen something supernatural. Good Luck With More Information for me y’all.

I know about Walahalla. When I was young we went there and were chased off as well. Legend has it that Mr. Mooney caught his wife cheating with the butler and was so distraught he hung him self from the bridge… that’s just one version. I went to school right across the street for 3 years and my friends and I even spent the night under the bridge… nothing happend… all legend. It is a beautiful old house though. People have always lived there.

February 6, 2009, 8:32 am

Ok People, Sorry to burst your bubble, the house on N. High Street is not abandoned. The supposed blood stains on the floor is an area rug. You have now SPOOKED the current owners. So, if you like riding in Police cars and spending your hard earned money on legal fees…….
The current owners of this historical house deserve the right to feel as SAFE in their house as you do in yours.

Brittany says:

People do live there and even shot at people trying to investigate.

This is a very interesting fact to know. I don’t get how anyone could move into a house that is known for being used for a satanic cult much less having had numerous murders inside…I will have to check it out though since i’m less than ten min away…

Jason B. says:

August 22, 2009, 8:35 pm

I wouldn’t want to live in a house that was used for satanic worship peroid.I think some people have a morbid curiosity.Well someone lives in the house where all of this happened at i wouldnt try to investigate the place its being watched by the college and the owner who owns the place.

OK, folks I personally know the family who lives there now. These people have lived in the house since 1973. Before that, a Doctor and his family lived there. The Doctor bought the house in 1949 when he just came out of medical school. So, basically, just two families have lived in the same dwelling for the last 60ty years period. It has never been vacant, empty or abandon in the last 60ty some years. Can you say that about you own place? So, there has been nobody killed there, no satanic what â??everâ? going on. It is all a hoax. These people are trying to raise their family, kids and pets, just like yourselves. They deserve their right to privacy just like you would want your own right to privacy. How would you like someone knocking on your apartment door or home and say, â??Hey, I want to look at your place because I just feel like it.â? The house is not some amusement park for you all to â??check it outâ?. It is a private personal home. Coming on to the property is jeopardizing the safety of their children and pets. The homeowner assured me that you will be arrested and prosecuted if you do so.

This house is very creepy. I hadn’t heard any stories about it until reading this feed. I drove past it every day on my way to work and I’ve always wondered about it. It rests at the top of a hill across from a sleep center near the college, looking down at the intersection I take to and from work. It’s an old, faded red brick house with white pillars. I would be interested to go see more of it but I’m not sure how to get up to it.

i was in the house, there IS blood stains on the floors, marks from where it looked like someone had dug there nails into the wall with blood stains, the house smells like rotten blood, it is awful. its hard not to get sick from the smell..the upstairs looks like they started to remodel it, one of the rooms has kitten pictures all over it. there is somethings that was still left there. they have all the doors sealed. but if u follow the driveway where the gates are..there is a side door u can now get in to because i climbed thru the window and opened it. there is like a garage/ mini shop attached in the rear of the house, there is like tables with straps on them, big *** old saws, 4 bottles of sulfuric acid. and news paper clippings of missing people. it is on lazelle rd, you turn onto lazelle by this gas station, im pretty sure it was a BP. its a white house. kinda set a TAD bit back. the house will be off to your left. if your looking hard enough, you cant miss it.

LEGEND: Back in the 60’s, there was supposed to be a ritual killing in the house in which two people, presumably the occupants, were murdered. It has remained abandoned ever since even though many people have tried to move in, they did not stay for longer than a year except for a cult (the same one that were responsible for the murders?) moved in during the 80’s. After “flashing lights” were seen coming from inside the house, neighbors thought that this warranted a call to the police. Inside they discovered 8 decapitated bodies and no cultists, the belief is that they fled and were never caught. If you go there at night, you will hear the 8 ghosts of the victims converse with each other. In addition, the shadow of a hanged man appears hanging from one of the trees near the house.
Blood stains still can be seen on the floor(s) and despite the grisly murders, no one was ever caught and charged.

THE TRUTH: Nothing about the above story is even remotely true.
No murders (at the hands of a “cult” or otherwise) have ever took place here, the house has always been occupied with only a few short exceptions and in fact it is decorated every Christmas.
There are several trees, so I cannot say for certain which one is supposed to have the hanging ghost. The brick house is quite old and it looks out of place next to the Pontifical College, but the only murders that have took place are in the imaginations of the believers. After repeated attempts to find any newspaper reports (both from Delaware and Franklin county) that even hint at any crime other than trespassing, I was unable to find anything. Of course if anyone has any evidence to the contrary, please let me know.
Barring that, the people that have said they have been in this house and seen the blood stains are complete ******* idiots and liars.

LOCATION: The house is right next to the Pontifical College on State Route 23, just north of I-270 west of Flint Road. This house (7755 N HIGH ST) is occupied and you will have the police called on you if you trespass. If you try to look for 8 ghosts at night on private property, you pretty much deserve to be spend a night in jail.

This house isn’t vacant anymore. I live right down the street and this house was also used in the underground railroad. It’s on a very busy street which people will more than likely see you go in it. Only one way to drive up in it, as far as I know.

Erin says:

December 4, 2014, 5:53 pm

So in researching the house on High Street, the current owner may have cleansed the house so your luck on finding out about this is probably lost. here’s what I found…the reverends name is also in the property look up with the auditor for county
There are a full range of churches in Columbus that support spiritual development in non-traditional churches. In Our Midst is located at 7755 North High Street, which is just north of the Josephenium. Combining teaching from The Bible with reading and healing, In Our Midst provides spiritual direction and spiritual guidance. The leader is Rev. J.R. Schroeder.

So it might be time to give the homeowners a break…idk….any more info you find out let me know….I’d buy the place myself if I could..I’m sure it used to be gorgeous and goodness the potential is there again….doesn’t look all that scary to me…Erin

Erin, Tina, Jason B, and Tre Camacho have this totally correct. Thank you! These are nice people who have been living in this HOME since 1972! The landscape is natural yet well maintained. They raise chickens for their eggs, not animal sacrifice. They have oriental rugs, not blood stains all over their floors. The home does not smell of anything rank and in fact smells like aromatherapy oils! There is a small chapel there for their small congregation. They have been harassed by religious nuts (who can see the place from the Josephinum while on high school field trips), several generations of them, practically from the day they moved in, especially on/around Halloween. For those who are a bit dim — THIS IS AN OCCUPIED HOME IN WHICH REAL, *LIVE*, FEELING PEOPLE LIVE! There are no ghosts, hauntings, or criminal activities going on there! These homeowners deserve the RIGHT to live in peace and free from harassment. Would you like it if people started breaking into *your* home because they are stupid enough to think it’s haunted? If you come onto the property without an appointment, be prepared to have the cops called on you and you *will* be arrested and prosecuted for trespassing. Karen Laven, Haunted Ohio, and all you Watterson kids stay away and leave my friends in peace! Learn to respect the rights of other people to live peaceably and free from harassment.
