Alcatraz
It is said that if one sleeps in a jail cell, sometime during the night, he will hear someone banging on the cell doors when no one is there.

Just some info for you all. Park Service employees are not allowed to comment on paranormal activities in National Parks.
But some of the stories that come out on different websites are funny to say the least. The story of the inmate who supposedly was driven to suicide because of a monster in Cell D-14 , never happened. No inmate died in the solitary cells of D-Block.
Al Capone was not haunted by the ghosts of those he had killed. Al Capone was insane from syphillis and thought he was an Italian opera singer too.
Alot of the sounds contributed to ghosts must be also contributed to the cell house being old and its normal for the place to creak and groan at night and during the day as well.
BTW , I work there and have spent the night out there many times. Not to say things DONT happen, but some of the stories are just that….stories.

Well, I didn’t really want them to comment on any paranormal activity….I just wanted to know about people claiming to have spent the night there. Not the best answer but you can clearly see there are gaurds there patroling at night.

I myself have been there several times and have never experienced anything strange whatsoever. I am usually pretty sensative to these things. In my opinion there is nothing there. But remember that is just because I have never felt anything there, just my opinion.

I have to tell you guys something. I visited Alcatraz about 3 years ago. I walked around the jailhouse, in and out of different cells, and I kept hearing this one voice. It kept droaning on about what, I don’t know. I remember being pretty shooken up. I had to sit down, take off my self-guided tour headphones, and get some water. To this day, I have not figured out who, or what, was speaking to me…

Dudes, I believe in this story’s because I’ve heard a ghost on my stairs. One night I was awake and I heard footsteps, I look but did’nt seen anything and I have no neighbours so it was a ghost for sure

Truthseeker.
I don’t care what letter you got from who, but if you are stupid enough to believe you cant PAY to spend the night (or anywhere) there then you’ve spent way to much time living in Northern California. I apologize for being so blunt, but I did pay and I did stay there…

I do believe the Alcatraz stories are true but who died their for it to have ghosts. People do say that a house has a ghost because someone died their. How died in the Alcatraz.

That is a lie that he stayed in the hole D12. Nobody can stay their that is just makebelieve. I only believe the stories of the people that took pictures and saw a guard right next to them

There’s maybe 3 people who make an ounce of sense on this comments page. Yes, people died on Alcatraz. There were murders (it was a prison!), there were inmate beatings by the guards as well… you CAN spend the night there. There are also people commenting on here that have clearly never spent any time in San Francisco. You want to know what the cold and whistling noises are? Alcatraz is an island in the San Francisco Bay, in the midst of fog and ocean air! As for hauntings, I’ve been there a few times, but only been there during the daytime, with a crowd. so I’ve not had any haunting experiences there, but it’s just as possible there as any other large building that housed a number of violent people, eh?

All I have to say is….you people who claim to have spent the night at Alcatraz are lying unless you are a security gaurd that works there or something. You CANNOT pay to spend the night there. I have lived in Northern California all of my life and know you cannot do this. I even, just to be sure…wrote to Alcatraz Island. Here is their reply…
There is security that patrols the island every night – and they’ve never seen or heard anything all that odd. Many of us have spent many nights on the island – I’ve stayed in the hospital/psych ward, in the hole (D block) in the regular cells and in the basement (“dungeon”). But so far – no spooks.
