Aquia Church
This church is the site of a locally well known apparition. According to legend, a woman was murdered many years ago in the church’s belfry. It is said that she may still be seen from time to time peering through the window.

I live about 2 miles from the church on Courtthouse Road in Stafford,I’ve been there a few times with nothing happening.About a mile an a half behind it & Aquia Harbour there is an old grave yard that no one has been buried in since the 1500-1700(dates on graves there)you get an odd feeling when your there,as though your being watched. There are graves that have been dug up or the stones toppled over,it’s very old and some what scary at times. My daughter tried to get Stafford to take an intrest in cleaning it up,but they just didn’t care. It’s far back in the woods and it has an earrie and scary feeling to it,the only thing you hear is the birds and sometimes you don’t even hear that.ive seen things jumpfrom the sides of my eye’s there but then again you ask yourself did you see something or did you not.The grounds are surrounded with a small purple flower and it’s beautiful in the spring-but it is an unsettling place.

After reading over the comments from the KKK person, this is what I have to say,are all racist as stupid as you or just you.You give them a bad name,it’s also clear that you can’t spell worth a nickle(yes I know I have misspellings in my post,I have sand in my keys)please do the world a favor and jump off a tall bridge.I don’t know why you seem to think that this country belongs just to the white race,it does not.forgot to mention that I am white \,so are my kids and my husband, people like you full of hate make me sick but I know it’s something that you can’t help,it’s the way you were raised.I’llpray for you.

I think all you immature kids should grow up and create your own website to talk that sh** on since my 10 year old is sitting here reading this, he has an interest in going ghost hunting when we go on vacation to your state, and the last thing he should have to learn about is your so called white power!!! I’m a grown man and also proud to be white, but learn to appreciate the world you live in, if you do’nt like society and the way this world treats each of you then move to CUBA. Take this maturely and study what you do’nt know, and thats how to talk properly!!!
THANKS,
My 10 year old son

wow! how did this go from ghost stories to racial issues? It’s those who are closed minded I have issues with. NO ONE CARES IF YOU DON’T LIKE OTHER RACES. Write it in a journal, then shove that journal down your neck hole.
please.

It’s true. My boyfriend and his brother went there years ago (with permission for a school project) and actually interviewed the pastor there at the time. They have a tape recording of the interview and it contains some really weird noises and some background remarks to some of the questions that were asked. There is even a part on the tape when they asked a question about any strange activity during Halloween and you can hear clear as day a voice whispering repeatedly “Halloween, Halloween, Halloween” in the background while the gentleman is answering the question. They also took a photograph of the door at the top of the staircase leading to the belfrey and the picture is normal. The negative however shows the body of a woman and her face is very clear. There were two pictures taken of the door and the second picture was distorted but the negative came out showing a door with smoke in front of the door. There were also pictures taken of the cemetery and the pictures came out very nice and clear with some pretty purple flowers all around and the negatives came back very disturbing with some blurring in some and with some small lights like “orbs” in others. Some negatives had very dark patches in places on the negative and bright colors in other places. But the photos came out just perfect with nothing unusual. Kinda neat and weird at the same time, huh? Several other pictures were taken of the inside of the church and they are normal. They also took pictures of the outside in different spots and they are also normal. I wish I had these pics and audio to share with you because they really sent chills. They were truely awesome. Just wanted to share what I saw and heard and how remarkable it was.

I LIVE 5 MILES FROM THIS CHURCH. I HAVE LIVED HERE ALL MY LIFE 50 YEARS. I WENT TO CHURCH AND SUNDAY SCHOOL HERE AS A CHILD. BOTH MY SISTERS AND MYSELF WERE MARRIED IN THIS CHURCH.I HAVE SEVERAL RELATIVES BURIED THERE INCLUDIND GRAND PARENTS. THIS PLACE IS SO SCARY MY PARENTS GAVE ME THIER CEMETARY PLOTS AND THEY DECIDED TO BE BURIED AT QUANTICO. LIKE I WANT THEM, NO THANKS, I DONT WANT TO BE THERE EVEN DEAD.THERE ARE SO MANY STORIES WHO KNOWS WHAT TO BELIEVE, ALL I CAN SAY IS YOU GET VERY UNEASY AROUND AND IN IT, SOMETHING JUST IS NOT RIGHT. YOU EXPECT TO SEE SOMETHING AT ANY TIME. A 1/2 MILE AWAY ON RT 1 IS A CRUCIFIXTION OF CHRIST. WHY IS IT THERE? JUST TO THE RIGHT BACK OFF THE ROAD IS WITCHES CREEK BACK IN THE WOODS. THERE IS AN OLD STONE TABLE THERE BELIEVED TO BE A SACRIFICIAL TABLE AND THATS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.THIS IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN THERE SINCE THE 1600`S WHEN STAFFORD WAS FIRST SETTLED. WITH ALL THE SUFFERING OF THAT ERA PLUS THE STORIES OF WAR AROUND THE CHURCH THERE WAS A LOT OF EVIL IN THAT STRETCH OF AREA. ALL ON THE CHURCH AND GROUNDS WERE NAMES ETCHED IN STONE OF SOLDIERS FROM THE WAR. THERE HAD TO BE ALOT OF THINGS GOING ON, WHAT A GOOD PLACE TO PUT UP A STATUE OF JESUS ON THE CROSS TO BLESS THIS AREA OF TERRIBLE THINGS. I KNOW AS KIDS WE DID A LOT OF CRAZY THINGS, DARING EACH OTHER TO SPEND NIGHTS SLEEPING IN GRAVEYARDS OR RUNNING IN A DARK CHURCH AT NIGHT WHILE OTHERS WAITED OUTSIDE. NO ONE HOWEVER WOULD EVER STAY IN AQUIA CHURCH OR SLEEP AT WITCHES CREEK NO WAY.

I too have been to the church back in the 70’s when I was a teen, my friends and I did see the ghostly figure in the window, scared the daylights out of us. But not enough to keep us away the following week, we came back to check out the cemetary where our great grandparents were buried. Has anyone been to witches pond and old Brents Cementary? And sat in the Witches Circle? It’s fascinating!

My dad used to live in Aquia Harbour, I’m not sure exactly where that river is, but we lived on Dewey St. and I always felt uneasy in that house, something about it just gave my the creeps. And that church always looked weird to me… I’d believe that its haunted.

I was baptised in that church.
And I still go there.
I’ve been there at night.
I go every Sunday.
I asked one of the guys that work with the church like 24/7, he told me that the stories aren’t true. I dnt believe him but whatever.
I think she’s a nice spirit.
I dnt feel any negative moods up there.
And for the person saying that the woman murdered up there was his great great grandma. that’s bull. she was an orphan. who got hung. or at least that’s what stories say.

I used to live in the area many years ago and was an acolyte at the church as well as involved with the local youth group. I can attest that the belfry is haunted, by what exactly I am not sure. I have stayed in the belfry on a dare and will admit to seeing a white figure that moved from the window to the stairs. We did not stay long and I never did go back at night!

I live near this church, and I have gone there on many occasions ghosthunting. The stories behind a death are true, but anything dealing with the supernatural are completely false. You do not get any creepy feelings, nor have my friends and I caught any evidence with any of our equpiment. It’s a cool cemetary and church but honestly that’s about all.
