The Center has been torn down and replaced with another building within the last few years. I’ve never taken a look at the parking lot though.

Neil, if you have all this time on your hands, go take a look at the damn parking lot! Better yet, why don’t you pitch a tent and plant tulips on the nearest corner!

Is this the former Clinton Valley Mental Instution? I’ve heard comments about things going on there since before it was closed. Also, you might want to track down some information regarding weird happenings at the former Oakdale Center in Lapeer. From what I hear, that’s also haunted.

We explored this place a couple of years ago and didn’t experience anything frightening, except maybe a creepy vibe which could have been just our imagination…took a couple of books left in the library…someone was clearly living there – clothes, shoes, an area on the floor made up like a bed – pretty sure it was human.

Me and my friends explored there right before they tore the place down. i’m pretty sure it was haunted, we would have cold wind blow by us when we werent even by windows,it smelt like rotting dead bodys. its gross but true. also a friend of mine saw a little girl in the hallway wearing a white night gown.

My friends used to speak of a ghost named Reno who haunted the place. He was institutionalized for depression and killed himself there. His name was written on one of the doors which was apparently his room. Another ghost was named Liz, but I don’t know anything about her. Has anyone ever heard of Reno?

I am really curious to know if anybody that has moved into those condos now inplace of that hospital has experienced anything bizarre! I am pretty sure they may be having a rough time selling those places to people who totally know of it’s history and what used to be there, or WHAT STILL IS!! OOOOH-OOH! boo!

I can attest to the strange things at the Oakdale Center in Lapeer. I went through many of the old buildings there before they were torn down, and experienced many unexplained and downright terrifying things.

i was there with 4 other individuals in 2003 around december. we explored the 1st floor with only one mishap. turned on every faucet cause there was no running water and as i walked away from one of the faucets it spit out water and kept running even hours later when we were leaving it was still pouring water even tho no other faucet or toilet worked in the entire 2 stories. upon coming out of the staircase on the second floor their was a nautiating smell of rotting flesh. exploring found nothing but a rank smell out of the room on the corner from the left side of the stairs. from there a noise of electricity like being next to a live wire started. then after going through some rooms a sound of nails scrapping on metal began running around the walls all around us. we opened and stood in the first double door coming from the stairs and shined our flash lights down the hall. the sound got louder and some large black void was eating our light. the void was getting closer and the air got thick so at this time we ran the hell out there. we got the balls to come back for a thrid visit and nothing happened. so there is something there but will it inhabit the new building is a good question

One incident back in the winter of 2003, my brother,
a friend, and myself went looking around inside. We got in through this busted window in the courtyard and we went through two halls to get to the gym. Once we got there, we heard this loud noise resembling a door creeking so we took a 180 and ran tripping over the debris and ****. We went back in the courtyard for a minute when we started hearing the sound of breaking glass coming down the halls towards the window we came through. We didn’t stick around to see if it was human or what. Other times while there, I would hang out in the courtyard and hear footsteps and a radio or walkie talkies but no one else was around. Weird.

I live in Michigan, and tomorrow night my frineds and I planned to stay the night at a haunted place, somewhere close. It surprised me while I was reasearching places to where we could go, how many places in Michigan that are said to be haunted. It is quite a few but I’m excited.

djvarcoe says:

I hate to dissapoint you, but I have to tell you that there has never been any hauntings at the old Ardmore center. I know, I worked there and the most that ever happened was an occasional death–it was also a nursing home, and when people get old and ill, they do die. Also, I have seen a couple of the young patients (psychiatric) hop the fence and escape. Nothing more than that. Sorry to disappoint the “ghost busters” dj

Where is this place located. I am from Livonia and I think I know the place you are talking about, but I want to make sure I’m thinking of the right place

Big T says:

October 24, 2006, 9:32 pm

I think this is the old Eloise. For you real youngins, ask your parents. Back in 1991 went through there with 10 members of my high school football team. We stayed about 1 hour. We left because as we were looking through some files that were left behind, we all started sweating. It was 45 degrees outside. Then we all felt like someone was watching us. Never returned.

Gail says:

October 27, 2006, 9:55 pm

Jojo, I believe Ardmore was located on the east side of Farmington between 7 and 8 Mile.
Big T, Eloise was located on the northeast corner of Michigan Ave and Merriman.

Mark says:

December 10, 2006, 7:20 pm

To just clear up a few things, Ardmore was located around 9 mile in Livonia and it wasn’t related in any way to Eloise or Clinton Valley. In a span of about three months – before the hospital was torn down – I got the chance to visit Ardmore on four differnt occasions. I wasn’t doing anything more than simple searching with some friends of mine, but Ardmore did give off some interesting ‘vibes’.

On my first visit, my friend and I showed up, only to be surprised by another group of ‘visitors’ who knew a bit about the area and how the local cops would drive around the building, every night, around 12 a.m. So, we made our way to the roof and sat up there until we saw a patrol car make it’s rounds and then leave. Afterwards, my friend and I went off on our own and checked out the main hospital and the house that was attached to it. As to how many ‘individual’ floors there were, I’m not sure, I just know that there were different parts of the building set up on different levels.

The second and third times I visited, we found some animal – not sure if it was a beaver, muskrat or whatnot – which had had it’s stomach cut open and the intestines were pulled out and twined around the body. I’m not saying it was supernatural, but a friend of mine who was into witchcraft, said that it could have been a site for Satanic rituals. There was never an odor of decay (except from the dead animal), but there was a strong smell of burned materials where it seemed as if someone had been trying to set the place on fire. We – ourselves – actually spent some time in the gymnasium with a small fire in an old metal garbage can we found. It was interesting to sit and listen to the sounds of the hospital around us.

As for hauntings, I believe that there were energies there that were left over from when the hospital was actually running, but we didn’t have the opportunity to see any apparitions. Beyond the odd sounds here and there and the feeling of ‘sadness’, we didn’t have any extraordinary experiences.

Haunted? Yes, I would believe so.

As for Clinton Valley Hospital, you can find the land where the hospital stood in Pontiac on the eastside of Telegraph from the Summit Place Mall. There is a single building left standing, but it was a more modern day children’s hospital. Eloise is another interesting place to visit, but it is heavily patroled by security and access to the ‘now’ office buildings is prohibited.

i’m not sure if ne one still comes to this site or not, but if ne one knows where the old slaughter house is, out in utica, I’d like to know. I was there once with some friends. They drove so I dont remember exactly where it’s at I just know it’s off of 59E in Utica. And it’s very haunted. Granted, this was like 7yrs ago that I went there. Thanx.

haunted for life says:

Just a question, anyone know where the Striker house is? I was visiting a friend and she told me the house was completely haunted, we never got the chance to visit it, some old man currently lives there, but my friend’s dad lived there when he was a kid, and I guess he would hear lots of violent noises and see things. Apparently it was one of the first hospitals in the area for the wounded or something, Idk, I was just wondering why it wasn’t in here.

Jerry says:

August 28, 2007, 11:25 am

I worked there in the 90’s and it was called Ardmore Acres then. It was on Farmington Road between 7 Mile and 8 Mile roads, (19810 Farmington Rd). I never saw anything happen there, but I only worked there a short time. I was to do bookkeeping, but one night they wanted me to escort a “patient” from one area to another for some kind of treatment, and I refused saying that it wasn’t what I was hired on for, and they still tried to make me do it, so I quit. I can imagine plenty of hauntings possible on the site considering some of the things that went on there.

I received an email from a JEFF O’RILEY who requested the site’s address. JEFF…I have tried to email you the information using the email address you gave me, THREE times, and it keeps bouncing back. I just didn’t want you to think that I was ignoring you! I just can’t get the email to you!

ya hi i was looking up ardmore because i used to pass it all the time and i thought it was a shame that they were tareing it down.. anyways my friends and i went there about 2 or 3 monthes before they tore it down and hung out there for about an hour and there were ghosts hanging out there, there was a little girl who looked like she was about 7 or 8 and an older man who looked like he was in his 40’s.. and you dont have to believe that but thats what we saw… anyways it was a shame that they tore it down cuz it was a beautiful building, i loved the architecture.

Jessica says:

October 24, 2007, 11:56 pm

ya hi its me again jess same as the one above when i was there i took a pic of the upstairs window, which was broken out at the time… anyways i took the pic with my cell phone and there was a man in the window no joke… im searious, and i have 5 or more people that have seen the pic and they say that it is a man, even though there was no one in the building at the time and it was like 2 or 3 in the afternoon.. there was no chance of fowel play… i wish i could post it!

jeremy says:

November 2, 2007, 1:52 pm

Well i was therea bout two years ago with my my friend jess and we were walking around the building and we kept seeing this little girl about 8 or nine in a white dress with a red ball in the parking lot on the left of the building and then about two weeks later we were on my back porch which is like a mile and a half a way she took a picture of me on my steps from my back door and the same little girl we saw was in the picture standing behind me and she was in the same white dress and was holding the same red ball also we had seen a man in the window of the front of the building and had randomly seen shadow people that would run and dissaprear in the windows and openings of the building. And now they built single family homes on top of the property when ardmore sat and i have driven by there a few times and seen shadowy figures walking down the streets between the street light of the sub that was built on top of where it stood

Well, of course we all know that Ardmore is gone, and has been since like 2003. People claim that the place was haunted, but really, it was just inhabited by homeless people. Me and my friends used to go in there all the time, and we never heard or felt anything at all. I think it was just a bunch of rumors started by bored teenagers who had spray paint cans. I also knew a couple of people that were REAL investigators, had their own website and everything. They agreed that the place was not haunted. I do miss the place. I think the creepiest part was when you had to walk through the woods to get to the back of the building. Oh, and the smell that people are referring to as “dead bodies,” was really just mold, and the smell of a really old building.
People used to talk about there being tunnels in that place. They were never found, and couldn’t be located on the blueprints either. Plus, the place wasn’t big enough to have tunnels in the first place.

Alicia says:

February 22, 2008, 2:02 pm

I live right by there and the building was really creepy to look at but my dad grow up in the neighborhood right by it and was in it all the time. he said that nothing bad happend in there, just teenagers making stories out of it. But he did agree it was really dark and there are some werid things inside. And just to clear it up MARK Ardmore is on farmington road inbetween 7 and 8 mile road in LIVONIA..

I have been living on the old Ardmore site in Livonia for 2 years. It is a very quiet Association and a nice place to live. No ghosts left here, just good spirits most nights. There’s single family homes and multiple family units both. Have a good day!

I was in Ardmore about 14 years ago, believe me that place is not haunted. Dude they babied you in there. Unless someone had a real dislike for graham crackers and apple juice or donuts every night for snacks i can not see any reason why someone would want to haunt that place. The place was like a resort as far as how they took care of you!

I was was inside the Ardmore center years ago. The front of the building was a really old house and there was a room with all kinds of patient records and paperwork. I still have a book I found that has a list of patients that were there. Closer to the road was a small brick home that we also explored. Unfortunatly it is now torn down and they have built homes there. I am not sure if it was haunted or not. I can only say that the second time I went there we left immediatly because I had a horrible feeling. We never had anything weird happen the first time. There was one really cool room we found that had a two way mirror for observation.
There are appareantly a lot of places to explore in Ypsilanti. Not sure if they are haunted but they are old abandoned buildings. Just an fyi to anyone that likes to explore….in order to get in trouble for trespassing there has to be no trespassing signs every 20 feet. Otherwise that cannot prosecute you because they cannot prove that you saw the one sign they had posted.

Arin says:

October 25, 2008, 8:52 pm

Sonny~ About 14 years ago was the beginning of the Mental Health movement. They began to give patients rights, and see Mental health patients as people. BUT, before the 80’s, it was a totally different story. People were experiments. Medications were experimented on them, not to mention crazy procedures. So be THANKFUL you got graham crackers and not a lobotomy. Many poor souls have many, many reasons to be stuck in the horrible places most institutions were. Although, with the institutions closed, there really are no places for the many people that still need help to go. So for a lot of them, our prison systems have taken the place of an institution. But, I could go on and on………………

If you are looking for a real scare I would suggest look at a old place some where near easterner part of Michigan, it was an old a Asylum for the Insane. I was a nonbeliever. Somewhere around the middle of summer me and my friends found this place back behind some woods we decided to figure out what it was we looked on line for information and found that it used to be an Asylum. We when back later at night broke in through the back window, once inside there are a big room followed by many smaller rooms and a staircase. We walked around for a little and found little graffiti. We walked up the stars in to the upper floor and managed to find our selves in a medium sized room with plastic tables and a drain on the floor, know that it was used to torture or something of that sort. As we walked out to leave, one of the plastic tables flipped over and we all ran to the door but was locked. We stared panic we yelled out only to find a young man with a nightgown in front of us. He ran towards us and vanished, just then my friend had opened the door and we ran out. My friend said that he must have drooped his keys because they werenâ??t in his pocket anymore so him and a few others when inside and I stayed out side to wash for cops. When someone screamed I ran back inside the building to where we just where and my friend we hanging out the window wile the others where pulling him back in. my good friend was forced to go into a hospital for insanity after that. I was later told that the man that ran to us but vanished had happened aging but had ran into my friend he then tried to jump out one of the broken windows.
I would suggest that if anyone goes back to be vary carefully. I am 30 now and I will never go back.

One time when I was visiting the Ardmore center, I took a dump in the hallway that led to the gym. On a later visit, I took another one on the roof and revisited my old **** in the gym hall. It was all white and fossilized. It looked very ghostly and I could feel a strange energy radiating from this long forgotten poop. I had to get away. It was too scary. I think it resembled a former patient from long ago, forever lost in the abyss of time.

I use to live right across the street form this place, could look outside my bedroom window and see it, about 7 yrs ago.icould hear all of the high schoolers getting ready to go in there when they parked next to my was the last day of 8th grade when my buddies and I decided to go and check it out in the middle of the day and it was still freaky.90 degree day and inside the builing you could see your breath. we first saw alot of old things..a smashed piano and smelt horrible in there. a long narrow hallway led to a set of stairs going up. on the second floor there were padded rooms with the heavy metal doors pulled off, and thats as far as we made it that time!we heard footsteps and took off! another time it was just two of us, we jumped a fence closest to the road in the front when we approached the boarded up window someone or somethiing pounded on the board like it was trying to get out, scary as was on farmington rd 48152, where the new condos are. i believe a fire had started in the back and then the decision was made to tear it down. for real..haunted..never been so freaked out!

No, Folks, this is not the former Clinton Valley site ! CVC aka “The Pontiac State Hospital” was located in Pontiac and was foolishly torn down by The State about 10 years ago. My Aunt Leona worked there as a secretary to the head psychologist back in about the 1930’s or 1940’s. I don’t recall the exact year. She never reported any ghostly activity there. However, she was the governess at The Dodge Estate in Rochester, and did report that place as badly haunted. An old friend of mine was a security guard at The Dodge Estate, and reported lots of odd stuff.

Any way, Clinton Valley had lots of underground tunnels. The tunnels were constructed to make transport of food and patients and staff easier, especially during bad weather. I wonder if they were destroyed during demolition ?

In the early 80’s when CVC was still open, my friend and I skipped school. (PCH)
We walked the grounds there. We didn’t notice anything strange. However. We had conversations with some of the patients through their windows. One I remember was an 18 year old male who was institutionalized because he tried to commit suicide.

It was always cold, even if it was hot outside. There was a lot of debris (papers, trash) scattering the ground. There was a rumor that this facility was haunted by a man names Reno. As the rumor I heard went: Reno had a daughter who went to Ardmore, when Ardmore decided to close down his daughter was going to be moved to a further location and Reno would not be able to see his daughter as often. Apparently Reno went into Ardmore to ‘steal his daughter’ back so she would not be taken to the new location, and the security found him. Reno had a gun and security ended up shooting him, and therefore he is known to haunt the grounds, forever searching for his daughter. Some say that there is a little girl who is wandering around, and that has me wondering if that is Reno’s daughter, searching for her father Reno. Like I stated before these are rumors that I heard growing up, in Livonia. Now the place where the facility used to be has been bulldozed and has condominiums in its place.

I used to work here right before it shut down. There was an elevator going between the two floors. The adult unit upstairs the children’s unit downstairs. The only way to open the doors and get in was with a key. There were several occasions at the elevator would move on its own and the doors would open. The only way to get from the main house to the hospital was to walk down stairs into a basement with cages that kept the beds with straps and exercise equipment. There was a horrible thunderstorm when I was caught down there in the Lights Went Out scared the bejeebers out of me. A co-worker purposely freaked me out by turning on the flashlight behind the restrained beds. I wouldn’t necessarily call it and insane Asylum like people want you to believe. The adults upstairs definitely had mental problems, and others were just there to avoid jail time. The children’s unit was mostly emotionally disturbed kids with parental problems. There was another hunt story of one of the mirrors on the children’s unit breaking without anybody in there. The main house is where we had all the administrative offices and security area. When the company was going under people would race to cash their paychecks because if you didn’t get there soon enough your checks wood bounce. Until one day we arrived to work and there were chains on the doors.
