Arlo Road
Local legend says that one night a young couple came to this spot for a little TLC. At one pint, the man left the car to relieve himself in the nearby woods. As he left, he told his girlfriend to lock the doors until he returned. After some time, when her beau did not return the young lady became worried. Suddenly, she heard scraping noises on the hood. Getting out of the car to inspect, the girl discovering her boyfriend hanging from a tree with his throat cut. It is said that if couples park at the site on cool fall evening, they will the sound of the young mans fingers scraping across the hood.
THIS STORY CAME OUT OF A BOOK. A CHILDREN’S HAUNTED STORIES BOOK. BTW ITS NOT THE FINGERS THAT WAS SCRAPING ON THE HOOD OF THE CAR. IT WAS THE BOY’S SHOES.

i agree with Jackie, plus i believe this episode as appeared in the movie urban legends, the actor that is hanging from the tree, is the guy from Dawson’s Creek
Comment by andreia | 10.21.2005 | 5:26 pm
Yeah definately,
This is an urban legend, one of those, it happened to a friend of mine kinda things. It’s like the babysitter who gets a call from the upstairs bedroom of the house she’s sitting at, or the axe man hiding in the back seat of your car.
Comment by Trisha | 10.24.2005 | 2:48 pm
that is soo fake!how could it be the guys fingers scraping against the visitors hood when he was hanged from his neck!
Comment by chloe | 10.29.2005 | 1:35 am
That story is an Urban Legend. I collect Urban Legend books and I have that story in almost all of them. It is also in the movie Urban Legend like Andreia said.

I have seen this story on TV in several movies…it is as fake as big foot. Who makes up these fake stories?? It spoils the chance of the others being real. Hey my house is haunted by the abominable snowman…. anyone believe me… he throws snow cones at me at 12 midnight everynight. Then when I go to sit down in my favorite chair it is all iced over. All I get on the TV is snowy movies….weird…. this is a true story….

This is indeed an urban legend. If you visit Snopes.com, you will find it in the horrors section. It’s similar to the story of a boyfriend’s and girlfriend’s near encounter with the crazed lunatic with a hook for a hand who escapes from a nearby asylum. The story states that they were alone in the woods in their car when they hear on the radio that an inmate had escaped from the nearby asylum. The inmate is said to be extremely dangerous and has a hook instead of a hand. The boyfriend tries to get intimate with her, but she feels uncomfortable and persuades him to drive her home. Upon their arrival at her house, they discover a bloody hook hanging from the car door’s handle. Like the story mentioned here, pure fantasy.

This story so comes out of a movie scene. I remember seeing it in this movie called campfire tales. A bunch of teens telling urban legends.
Comment by crystal | 12.18.2005 | 5:09 pm
Ok, I see everyone thinks that this is an urban legend. Which could be true but at the same time most stories come from some sort of a fact it maybe something completely different but through the years it’s changed into something that no buddy believes actually happened. All I’m saying is don’t believe what people tell you is an urban legend was more then likely something that really happened it was just a different curcimstance. The facts are that we don’t know that any of the this stories on this site are real or not. It’s all how you the person reading prosives it. With that said, to the ones that said how can that be true he was hung by his neck. You should really pay attention. It says, “HIS THROAT WAS SLIT.” He could of been hanging by his feet. It wasn’t on the hood of the car either it was on the roof. Take what I said and everyone else said as you want. Urban Legend maybe, or maybe not. Who really knows.

By the way Mackenzie Highland Ave. T’s up with Arlo Road There are two cemetaries in the area. I find that kind of funny. Not trying to get smart with anyone just stating a fact
Comment by Skid Love | 01.9.2006 | 6:32 am
I grew up at 49 apt 1B Arlo Road (I’m 40), it is a bunch of apartments surrounding by really rich houses. It’s a f#cked up place. This legend has been around. The place it supposedly happened is behind 101 Arlo Road, down the driveway to the left next to a hundred and fifty year old cemetary. The cemetary is/was haunted by the “man in white” I never saw hiim, but as a kid, around dusk, you knew to get out of the cemetary. Someone would eventually yell the man in white and god forbid if you were the last one through the fence, you’d sh#t yourself. If you do an online search, you’ll see that a couple went missing in the summer of 78. We all thought it was son of sam but in the end, they never found her body. There are things out there. I know. When I was eighteen, I moved as far away as I could to California. One of my friends still lives there and he says that the hill has changed. Now there are college students living in the apartments from St. John’s University. Early last year, behind 111 Arlo, a girl went missing again. He says that he thinks the guy is back. If you are ever there, go in the day…it is a beautiful place. But don’t go at night, trust me, don’t go at night.

I enjoy a lot of these stories on this site, and they really give me goosebumps! However, this can’t be true. I’ve heard many versions of this story that IS FICTION such as, “Knock, Knock, Knock” and “Tap, Tap, Tap” and so on forth. I actually watched a show where a story was to be true or false. This story was on the show but was claimed false. There is similar facts and details to it though, as in teenagers could get killed by an escaped prisoner. Don’t fret, I saw this on TV.

I believe it. I believe every word. I know the spot and I saw UFOs there and I also met an Alien there. Yeah, I know the spot and I think I know the man who hanged the beau. If you look at the old oak with the yellow ribbon around it, you’ll find rope burns on the branch. I haven’t seen it myself, man but yeah.
Comment by Laz | 07.25.2006 | 5:20 am
This is so fake! It came on on supernatular on the wb once so why would someone take something so horrible and put it on tv if it actually happened that would be totally disrespectful to the people who actually died……if it happened, which i doubt.
Comment by Stephanie mellies | 07.29.2006 | 12:27 pm
wat ever jackie CHAN u r such a story wrecker get a life.
Comment by angel | 08.10.2006 | 7:27 am
You think that just because its disrespectful people wouldn’t put it on tv? And just because it was on tv or in the movies, doesn’t mean that it orginated there. For example, Sleepy Hollow, an ancient urban legend thats been around forever. Yet there are numerious stupid movies about it.
Again, with stories like this, its all about how people percieve it and retell the story.

I have lived on Arlo Road for the past year now, and I have never heard of this ’story’ until now. I wasn’t able to find anything about a missing woman in 1978. However Ghost Hunter is right, a girl did disappear from Arlo last year while she was visting one of the students living in the apartments on the hill. I find the hanging story pretty hard to believe. The only thing scary about Arlo Road, is how little parking there is.

I think my brain broke from trying to read a bunch of these comments. You people really need to stop trolling sights and being jackasses if you can’t spell or be at least halfway grammatically correct. And why are you here if you don’t believe in something, even a little? Trolls.
As for the story, it may now be an Urban Legend, but who’s to say there’s no truth in it? It had to come from somewhere! The way I’ve always heard it was that they ran out of gas and the boy told the girl to lock the doors and hide in the floorboard of the car with a jacket over her while he went back to find a gas station, and they made some sort of signal knock so she’d know it was him and open the doors..hours go by and nothing. Finally she hears a noise, a scraping sort of noise which is followed by dull thudding sounds hitting the roof of the car. She is afraid, but doesn’t move, and eventually the noises stop and she falls asleep. In the morning she’s awakened by a knocking on the window..a sherriff. He asks her to step out of the car and over to his car, and advises her not to look back, but she does anyway. The sight awaiting her is a gruesome one..Her boyfriend, throat slit, is hanging upside down from a tree above the car. The noises she heard were his fingernails scraping the roof when the tree branch moved in the wind, and the thudding noise was the blood from his slit throat draining from his lifeless body.

Hey I live in Staten Island and know that area well. Those graveyards(there are actually 3) on the side of that hill. Some f***** up stuff has gone on in there over teh years paranormal and otherwise. The story of the boyfriend and girlfriend is an urban legend made to make the story scarier , but I believe the 1978 thing may have happened. Again the girl disappearing recently is true. Ive been in teh graveyard around dusk and it gets freaky. I have family members buried tere and I accompany my grandmother to put flowers on their graves a few times a year. There is definitely smething to it. I never heard of the man in white but to be honest i never looked into it I will though interesting.
Comment by Will | 10.24.2006 | 3:01 pm
I think that the story could be true, and maybe the killer didn’t kill the girl cause it wanted her to live miserably for the rest of her life, however long that was. I think the story could use more description, like how was the guy hangin from the tree? his fingers, toes, his god dam d***?
Comment by CHEESE GHOST | 11.7.2006 | 1:51 pm
If that is real then she should be able to see him from the windsheld.Me and my friend were fighting about it and we figherd out that it has to be fake or something because she realy should be able to see him.THIS STORY MUST BE FAKE.IT DOSE NOT MAKE SENCE.
Comment by Machle | 11.21.2006 | 3:26 pm
Because if the branch was over the hode of the car she would be able to see him.But who or what killed him.
Comment by Machle | 11.21.2006 | 3:29 pm
She would be able to see her boyfriend if he was scratching the hood of the car beacause she would probably just scream or something instead of getting out to see what is happenning if she saw her boyfriend! It couldn’t have been her boyfriend scratching on the car when he was hanging from a branch. THIS STORY IS FAKE! My friend and I both disagree with coment number three and agree with number four. I reapeat THIS STORY IS FAKE!
Comment by Michelle | 11.21.2006 | 3:30 pm
Well, she wouldn’t specifically be able to see him if it were dark and the windows were fogged up. LOL anyways, I have heard this story many times as a child. It was told in different ways and different details, but it’s definitely not real.

Well if this is fake, which I really am not sure, that’de be freaky!! The girl walked out, and saw her boyfriend hanging with a cut throat! You know I would’ve leapt back in the car and drive, drive away! Then get the cops and never go back!
Comment by Susan | 01.18.2007 | 8:28 pm
My sister supposly died there. She went there and never came back. I’ve been trying to find the truth to that place…But its still freaky. Every time I’ve gone, I see a shadowy figure…too broad to be my sisrer. But whoever it is…I will stop them. And find my sister, or her body. For proper burial. I will avenge her.

OK. Well I beleive it. But in a diffrent way. A young boy and a young girl drive out into the woods to make out. Boy gets out and goes into the woods to use the bathroom. Boy does not come back and girl drifts off to sleep. Girl wakes up to a scrapping noise. She gets out and sees boy hanging from a tree by his feet. His throat slit and his finger nails scrapping the roof of the car. Its believable. There are so many stories like that. The hook. Its the SAME story but the killer had a hook. O well I have heard so many scary stories. It was a good story!!

Urban Legends are stories BASED on SOME REAL facts of a news story, and the rest of the story is made up. As with ghost stories we never know which part of them are true or not unless history is researched.
