Baby Bridge
If one travels to this bridge, turns off his car and places his keys on the hood of the car, he will see a woman with a baby carriage strolling across the bridge. The woman will then turn towards him and cast a very stern look. Some have even heard babies screaming near the bridge.
I’m retired in Georgia from the military but native of Puerto Rico, there we have a very similar bridge.

I actually went to baby’s bridge on Halloween years ago with some friends. We didn’t see the woman, but the bridge vibrated and we also heard an unearthly growl from the back of the woods.

Im from Puerto Rico, just as Al, and it is true, we have a bridge that is haunted. Me and my friends have tried to go there many times, and the last one, since nothing had ever happenned, I went out of the window and began calling “HER”. We didnt see anything, but our car turned itsel off. We turned it back on and speeded out of there. But its sort of funny that there are so many similar stories between countries.

Theres a bridge in Adairsville off of Lacy RD go there do the same thing but instead of putting your keys on top of the car put a candy bar of somesort. Then your windows will fog up and you’ll see baby footsteps.
Also try Gravity Hill in Rome and the Civial war Hospital in Kingston. On gravity hill if you put your car in neutral at the base some how you get pulled to the top. At the Cival War Hosp. go through the front door and walk up the stairs when you get to the top you’ll hear screams and there will be a couch in front of the doors. I also hear the walls bleed but I’ve never seen it at all. Bartow Gordon and Floyd county have all kinds of supernatural activity.

What is it with all of these bridge stories. I think that there is one in every state, almost every town. Are bridges just a bad place to be? Anyways there is a simular storie in my home town Metter, Georgia. It is one of those old wooden bridges but it is still in use me and a couple of girls went out there, we didn’t see or hear anything.

My X and I went to this place back in 2000 and we filmed it. Now. the quality is not quite up to par because we used my old 1988 video camera, but it was eery, nontheless. We didn’t see this mysterious woman and her carriage strolling about. I will make my re-turn one day soon to see if this ghoul truly exists.
Oh, by the way, this website calls for correct spelling, punctuation and grammar….hmmm, I haven’t seen much of that until now….

I am stationed at Ft. Benning Army base. The bridge is called crybaby bridge, it is only about 10 miles from base. The way i heard the story is that a child drown in the creek either on accident somehow or the mother drown it. at night when you go there you might here the childs screams and cries as it is drowning. some also say you will also see a white figure wondering around in the woods around the bridge. i checked the bridge out today during daytime this weekend some of my buddies and i are going to check it out. here are the directions for you all that asked. take I185 georgia to exit 12 get off and if you are coming from south take a left onto williams rd. go until intersection at bottom of hill passed the gas station then take a right onto whitesville rd. and it is about a mile on whitesville, if that. it is not labled with a sign and it is a small concrete bridge but thats Crybaby bridge.

I live in Rome, Ga and know for a fact that Gravity Hill is nothing but a cheap natural trick. The layout of the land is a slight downward slope that causes an optical illusion that maked people think it’s upward so a car that running looks like it’s going up when it’s really going down. you all are stupid.

Comment by HAILY | 10.11.2006 | 2:08 pm
I’m not sure about the Baby Bridge in Calhoun but Gravity Hill and the Civil War hospital are true. However the real story, less glamorous, is this. Gravity Hill is an optical illusuion. At night you can see the top of a hill but there is a gradual downward slope before reaching the top which gives you the velocity to assend to the top. As for the Civil War hospital it belongs to the Watkins family who purchased it, I believe in the 40’s. It was a Confederate hospital during the Civil War. I was babysat in the house as a child before it was remodeled. It is an old Antebellum plantation house on the outskirts of Cassville in Bartow Co. Here’s the deal there as a child my playmate and I discovered two different passage ways which would lead to strange places in the house from upstairs bedrooms to outside and one from upstairs into the lobby like hallway maybe to smuggle slaves or something. The only wierd thing was the basement. It always remained sealed off and the story says something about putting dead soldiers down there as a morge or either a nurse or a soldier thought dead who revived himself was sealed up inside. My plamate, who was a Watkins cousin, said she heard scratching on the door and other noises. Now the whole place has been remodeled and the old basement door has been bricked up and sheetrocked. My babysitter, who was killed in an auto accident in the 80’s, was very stern to us about our inquiries into the basement as is the father-in law who now lives in the house. Something happened I just don’t know what. Sorry, this is the truth.

OMG!! The baby bridge story is so true. A small group
of us went last weekend. We parked on the bridge and left the keys on the hood…We didn’t see a woman, but we heard foot steps and a baby screech. It was creepy…. We also heard a weird sound that came from the woods……..I really can’t decribe it.

I’ve been to this bridge a few times with friends and nothing happened. It was a very creepy place to be though. There is an old church near the bridge and the door was missing. The grave stones around the church were all the way up to the church walls, and they were in grass so tall that you couldn’t see a lot of them until you were right up on them. The floor in the church was made of wooden boards, and you could see through to the ground under the church. At night when it was foggy the fog would rise through the floor and it made it look really scary. Also there are angels painted in each corner of the church on the ceiling and people say that they cry tears of blood. Looked like people had just painted red tear drops down the walls though. The last time I went was almost two years ago and the old “haunted” church between cry baby bridge and a second bridge had been rebuilt. You couldn’t get inside, the door was replaced, it had new paint and new windows, there were no trespassing signs, and I think people are using the church for services again. Also there was an RV parked beside the church. We checked out the bridge again as well. You’re supposed to turn your car off, put the keys on the hood, lock the doors and then go stand in the middle of the bridge and say three times “I’ve got your baby” and then when you go back to you car the keys are supposed to be inside and the doors still locked. This never happened to us though. But we looked under the bridge and there were rocks underneath and one of them looked like it had a small skinned animal on it. It was gross, but I’m sure it had nothing to do with the place being haunted. I think its psychological. You have to drive down a tiny dirt road to get there and its in the middle of nowhere and there are no street lights. So its just dark and quiet. But its a fun place to go if you want to get spooked.

If you deny me in front of man then I will deny you in front of the Father….It is really sad that you think that Jesus wrecked your life - look at what He has done for us - He gave His life. You make the choices of what you do with your life - God is not responsible for that - it is always easy to blame someone else - I bet a few of those “ghosts” wish that they had listened about Jesus before they had to spend an eternity in hell.

Comment by CARLEY | 12.9.2006 | 2:45 am
I am from Marietta Georgia. We have one of 5, I think, covered bridges left in the states. This one is supposed to also have a baby story attached to it. There is a graveyard called the witches graveyard where supposedly witchs sacrificed babies for spells. The bridge is about a 1/2 mile from the graveyard and the creek that used to be under the covered bridge was used by the witchs to drown the babies. The ghosts that haunt the bridge are called water babies. Supposedly if you pull into the bridge, kill your headlights on the car, and wait 5 minutes you’ll hear childish laugghter and something like the sound of kids playin on the roof of your car. When you pull outta the bridge it’s said that you can look on the roof of your car and see little childrens hand and feet prints. I’ve been to the witch’s graveyard but never messed with the bridge so I cant say from expierence. Sorry.

I have heard of this bridge before. I was thinking that it was in Danielsville, near Madison County GA
It is called Cry Baby Bridge.
It is in the book Weird Georgia.
A friend of mine went with her boyfriend, and heard the baby crying.
It says in the book that if you are quiet and turn ur car off, or spread baby powder on the hood of your car you can see baby handprints in it, and hear the baby crying. If you look in the lake below you may see a baby’s face.
It seems quite spooky and I am looking forward to going.

Why would anyone turn off his or her car and put the key’s on the hood?Just to make a fool of yourself for actually believing this stupid story.

I am from NC. We have a baby bridge as well. Only the story is a depressed pregnant girl jumped off the bridge. When you go there now they say you can sometimes see her jump. Also they have said that you can sometimes hear a baby cry. Now we also have a gravity hill in NC. The story is a womans car staled there, and she was hit by another car and died instantly. It is said that if you turn your car off and put it in neutral, you will be pushed up the hill. I did it. It’s real. They also say if you put flour on your back bumper befor you start, that once you are at the top, if ou get out and look, you will see handprints. I never had the guts to try that one.

I live a mile from the bridge on covington bridge road.I have for along time. This is the first time i have ever heard of any haunting there.I live in a home that does have ghosts.i had one lock me out of my bedroom to keep me away from my husband, she also set fire to my house from my stove which was unplugged.I later move out of this house and it was condemmed. It has a room inside the house with an open well,we kept it enclosed.I know what happen to me these days i was there.I do believe in all manners of spirits.I have asked around about this baby bridge story in calhoun. It does not appear that anyone even knows where it is or they would post it.My email is shyly1@bellsouth.net

I live here in Calhoun and researched this many years ago for our High School magazine called SouthWind.I was elected to study this particuliar story. There is a couple of different directions to see this anomally. Now the original bridge is gone. It was a steel one lane bridge but is now a two lane concrete bridge. one way to do this is to go tothe nearby church and go around it screaming we have your baby. Supposedly the mother is buried there. Go back to the bridge , Stop, turn off your engine and lay the keys on the dash. You will then supposedly see the ghost of the mother as she sks were her baby is. Look in the back seat and the ghostbaby is supposed to be there. The other is to go to the bridge shout out you have your baby and do the same thing. Never got it too work. Only thing was one night while trying it the car battery acted as though it was dead and then suddenly everything come on. We started the car and got out of there. More stories can be found in old copies of SouthWind magazine. I was one of the artists for the magazine 1n 1984.

I’ve never been to Baby Bridge, but the covered bridge in Euharlee and Old Hardin Bridge (between Rome and Cartersville) are both creepy as hell.
But DW is much scarier than either place. Two satan worshippers were murdered in ‘81 at their house Corpsewood Manor. A good bit of the house is still standing and I would recommend that everyone go see it. It was super eerie and a few things happened that nearly made us wet our pants. Google Corpsewood Manor if you want to learn what happened there and how to get there. It’s a bit of a trek, but it’s worth it.

Oh, and DW (Devil Worshippers Mountain) is in Summerville, so it shouldn’t be too far for anyone who was gonna go to Calhoun anyway.

I think every place has a “Baby Bridge.” Here in Columbus it’s called Cry Baby Bridge. It’s a series of three bridges out away from the city. There are several different versions of the story. The one I hear the most is that a lady and her baby died in a car accident, like she ran off the bridge or something. You’re supposed to park in the middle of the bridge and turn you lights off. One version says if you put flour or powder on your car, there will be little baby footprints in it. You’re supposed to be able to hear a baby crying. I’ve been there a few times with friends. It was a pretty creepy place, but we never heard a baby. Just some stuff belonging to some homeless people who have supposedly taken up residence there. Still, it’s a little freaky!

The baby bridge exists in so many places for the simple reason that it is an urban legend :P. Heh, so in actual fact, it exists only in people’s active imaginations…

I agree that there seems to be a baby bridge story in every town. I live in a town that has several stories like this. i have never actually tried it. If this many stories have been made up one of them must be true.

I think there is a simple explanation for all these cry baby bridge stories. My house sits on about five acres of woods. One night I was awakened by the most horrific sound I have ever known. It sounded like a child lost in the woods and screaming in pain for its mother. It was a loud wailing, “MAH-A-MA-A-MA!” and the sound kept moving, like it was coming from everywhere. This happened right after Susan Smith drowned her children in the lake in South Carolina. That’s all I could think about was that some child was lost or hurt in the woods late at night. I found out what I heard was a bobcat. If you have never heard one, let me tell you it will make your blood curdle and bring tears to your eyes. But even more importantly, you don’t need to be messing around in the woods with a bobcat on the loose. If you just have to go investigate for yourself, then go and listen, but don’t get out of the car.

I have lived in Calhoun all my life and went to baby bridge many times. it does not work. for one thing the read has been rerouted about 50 Yard’s to the right of the original bridge and the old bridge is no longer there.
They took it down after many people saw the mother of the baby on the old bridge. No one ever saw the baby from what i was told by my grand parents.

this bridge is on a road called “Lacey Road” which is off of “Hall Station Road” going towards Kingston.. Hall Station road is off of Highway 140 going to Rome from Adairsville..
me and my friends have been to this road a few times.. and we’ve always had hand prints all over our cars everytime.. we even made sure to not touch our car and still managed to find some.. however only one time have we actually witnessed something.. our keys were on top of the car and the lights started turning on and off.. and we also felt a vibration.. we didnt stick around very long afterwards tho.. but its real.
