Baker Mansion
This house, which has been converted into a museum, is said to be haunted. There is a wedding dress that moves, though it was originally in an airtight glass container. There is also a bed that never remains made. In the basement, there are screams which many think belong to one of the Baker’s sons who was killed and stored in the deep freezer until the ground had thawed enough for him to be buried.

I had something like that. It was the summer that I had to go to my first year of junior high. My dad took me to Baker Mansion because it was a reward for working so hard for going to junior high. Everything went fine until we were getting ready to leave. We came out of the basement and I was waiting for my dad to unlock our bikes. As I was waiting he unlocked the bikes and at the sametime a scream from the basement came it was the group that we were with…I think but I don’t know because I went down the driveway not even a second after the scream.

I left a comment before this one. All I can say is that I never had anything weird happen to me but I have felt like their was something watching me. Not to really scare me but more of an “Hey it’s her again and she’s older type of things.” I’ve only been in their twice I think or was it three?

My family took me there one Mother’s Day a few years ago, It was something I had been wanting to do for awhile. Anyway, as we got on to the porch I had got the feeling someone was watching me. When we got inside my knees suddenly felt they were going to buckle. They stayed that way the entire time I was there.I literally had trougle getting up the stairs do to the feeling in my legs. While we were upstairs my family, the guide, and I all heard this strong sound of wind rushing up past us, we didn’t feel it though. It lasted only a few seconds and stopped just as suddenly as it started. As I walked out the exit of the house, my knees returned to normal. But even now when I drive past I get a very weird feeling like someone is looking at me through those big front windows.

I WENT TO BAKER’S MANSION ON A FIELD TRIP IN GRADE SCHOOL. I KNOW THE WEDDING DRESS THAT HAS BEEN MENTIONED. WHEN I WAS IN THE ROOM WITH THE WEDDING DRESS, THERE WAS A VERY NOTICABLE TEMPERATURE CHANGE IN THAT ROOM THAN IN THE REST OF THE MANSION, AND SOME OF THE OTHER KIDS IN THE GROUP COMMENTED ON IT TOO, BUT THE GUIDE AND OUR TEACHER COULD NOT EXPLAIN IT. I LIVED IN TYRONE, PA. WHICH WAS ONLY ABOUT 20 MINUTES FROM THE MANSION.

As stated my last name is Baker… I don’t know much about my family history or where all of us are from except that we are a large family…
Well I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find the family History of the people whom lived in Baker Mansion…
Post a comment back on here if you do.
Also, does anyone know what the price is for admission to the Mansion? I’d like to go there and experience the hauntings myself…
Thank You,
April Baker

I moved to Altoona 12 years ago. I lived about 4 blocks from the Mansion. The area is very quiet & pretty. It “is” creepy at night. I have taken the tours and I have attend the haunted events that they have annually. ( Ghost Stories at Baker Mansion usually in October every year). I have always believed we are not alone, regardless of what people think or say. I feel there are way too many proven facts and EVP’s, photo’s and personal experiences to
asume we are born, buried, & morned.
To answer some questions:
The address to Baker Mansion is not listed in the phone book but here is the number 814-942-3916.
April, my advice to you is call, take a tour, but have some ancestry history with you to ask the historical society, that is who takes care of the mansion. The cost of the tours should be around $6.00 or so. I have seen a boy in the window many times; he is bold and as the years seem to go on he seems to be seen more often. I have heard screams even during the day light hours. If you believe …….you will feel and see more then you could even imagine. Trust me it is not for children named “Poopy” or Ape Norrnass. Have fun and be open your minded.

In response to all the people that are leaving comments about how stupid this is….why are you here? I’m sure you have a VERY exciting life with lots of important things going on, espicially since your sitting at home right now on the computer.
By the way….there are a few very well know haunted places in PA that are not listed on here. If anyone’s interested try searching for Eastern PA Hauntings, especially New Hope, PA.

This whole city of Altoona Blair county is very haunted from this Bakers Mansion to the Altoona Hospital to the home of 907 4th Ave. Juniata of where I grew up! But if you do not believe maybe you should rethink this thought! Once I called this Bakers Mansion to see about some prices and a Mr. Baker his self came across and told me to come out between the hours of 10 and 10:30pm to see his house personally! My one friend at the time made me call back and this time a woman answered the call I had told her about what had happened she told me personally that this does happen from time to time that it was the ghost of Mr. Baker his self! So with that I never did get to see this Mansion everyone turned afraid and I lost my chance to be there! For some unknown reason it seems as if this house comes alive between 10 and 10:30 pm even thought it is alive with ghost during the day! I wonder just who this boy is they see?
Even the The Rossvelt JR High School has a ghost boy there his story is a sad one if you go to the Altoona Mirror you can read it I recalled it from years back. good luck and believe in the things you see and hear!

I live in a huge house that looks like a mansion. And it’s haunted. The other owners b4 said that someone hung themself in my basement. Me and my friends have done Ouija and have found out some stuff about a little girl named Meghan. I’m only 12 but I still know alot and in my bedroom there is a floorboard that has a box and in it is a doll that looks alot like me. Once I was looking in the mirror and could have sworn I saw a hand move past the back of me. I still get the chills. does any1 have any good advice? should I stop messing around?

This really isn’t a comment but more of a incident that happened to 2 of my friends. They were walking home from a football game in the football field beside the mansion (mind went blank onthe name)… now we are all from Altoona and know the story of Baker Mansion but never really believed it to be true until that night… but as i was saying… the had to walk past baker mansion to get to their house and teh front door was hanging open… now it was around 10-10:30 p.m, so no one should of been there. The one wanted to go inside but the other was a little creeped out. Now my one friend and I are open about Hauntings and Ghosts and whether they exist, the other well she is a bit of a skeptic…since the front door was open the decided to creep around back to see if any one was there and let them know that the door was open.. as they did the y glanced up and noticed a boy standing in the window and waving at them to come in… well of course he was transparent and that freaked the hell out of them… as they stared up at him, he began to disappear… that really scared them and the ran around front again… as they got to the front door it slammed shut and they heard an eerie lagh come from inside.. the next day they called and told me everything. Now at first I wasn’t to sure… but when I found out that it was proven that Baker Mansion is indeed haunted I knew they were not lieing.
