Blackwell House
It is said that no family has been able to live in this exquisite home for more than a month or so. There are reports of a man walks through the house all night dressed in his Sunday best. It is said that if one drives by the house at night, either every light will be on or no lights may be on at all. There is one particular report of a family that awoke one night to find the lamp on the night stand on. They turned it off. An hour later, they woke up again to find this lamp on. This time, they unplugged it. A little while later, they saw the bulb glowing again, but the lamp was still unplugged. Suddenly, the bulb exploded into flames. The next day, they heard that Mr. Blackwell never allowed his children to sleep in the dark.

Well as for the house being haunted I can say with all certainty that it is completely true and I would know first hand because the Blackwell house was my childhood home. I am also proud to mention that we lived in the house for a lot longer than a month. I did see the gentleman in his Sunday best as well as some other interesting things but we never had a lightbulb explode on us although one was always on.

This is about the 25 th person we have had, write and tell us they “lived” in this house as a child. Boy this house has had a lot of owners. Give me a break. It’s not haunted, and the current owners have been there for years. Not one paranormal event. No evidence from anyone. Just a lot of false claims. It’s an urban legend that needs to be put to rest. We have investigated this property. It was a very peaceful and tastefully decorated home. That’s it. Nothing more..

I just wanted to clarify my earlier comment about “living” in the house as a child. I don’t know how many people have claimed to live in the Blackwell House or how many owners it has had since. All I know is we were the first family to own the house outside of the Blackwell family. My parents bought the house from Louise Blackwell Miller in 1983 and we lived there for 6 years. The Memphis Ghost Hunters may not have experienced anything during their investigation but I spent a lot more time in the home than they did.

I have lived around the corner from this place since 1987. We have always called it “the Spook House” I am not sure why, because we just heard about it being “haunted” today. It has been up for sale more times than I can say, and I actually went to a yard sale there some years ago when a young couple owned it. Sometimes there will be a sign in the yard that they are giving tours. It costs 10.00 to take the tour. I think next time I will go just to see what’s in there. The previous owners decorated it like a Victorian House for Christmas in 2008, but it appeared to be empty this past Christmas.

I promise you folk’s. If It were haunted I would be the first to let you know. We have been to the house. We have talked with the owners. There is NO haunting in this house. Just urban legend. That’s all. They give historic tours because of the size and age of the home. NO GHOSTS. I promise.

this is very interesting…He really cared alot of his children. He didnt want them to be afraid of the dark so he gave them light. He must be a religous person as well to wear his Sunday best. I think he is a nice man with a big heart…maybe people should just let him live in peace. There are more than just 1 hanted place in the world. : ) i hope u liked my comment… if didnt then i dont care.. haha : D

MY AUNT LIVED IN THIS EXACT HOUSE.
only they lived in it for several years.
my cousins, who were very young at the time, would never step foot in the
bathroom upstairs. my cousin said when she was young and she would wake
up to use the bathroom, she could feel something outside the door. she would
have to work up the courage to open the door, then she would sprint down the hall,
downstairs to the other bathroom. my aunt also had a couple weird experiences as well.
i just cannot believe i have been inside such a crazy house, and so have my family members.

Okay this has nothin to do with that but i live in nashville and my family lived in a house that doesnt seem haunted. well one day we got a letter in the mail that said happy 16th bday katie. first off non of our names are katie. so we asked the neighbor he said yes she died in the house of cancer bout 4 years ago. Then werid stuff started happening one day i was asleep i woke up to the sound of a door opening looked up nothing there. then my mom saaid one night she saw a girl that looked sorta like me peaked in the room then tunred around and walked out.she came to see if it was me and i was asleep. couple of days later my mom was asleep in the couch and yelled i came in running she said why would you slap me on the butt im asleep. i said no it wasnt me i was on the computer. she didnt believe me. she came with me to my room and i was writing the rest of my paper nd all of the sudden the screen went white and across the scren said katie katie katie katie etc. and we got scared and left for a few hours. a few weeks past nothing happend then one day my mom said that she was cleaning the kitchen and heard the front door open and heard mom dad im home. she thought it was me and said thats not funny you know your dad doesnt live with us. walked in when she didnt hear a respond and noticed no one was there. i came in bout 30 mis later she seemed shaking. she said ive called a few people and they are going to try to contact the spirit. they had set a date for a week later and when the day came to do it i was in the hospital cause i had fell of the porch and broke my arm, my mom got a call from everyone saying they were very sick. my mom has crohns diease she wasnt feeling well. whats werid is they all got sick me in the hospital….hmmmm.werid! but about 3 weeks later we moved. thats my story. i have a few more but not of this house.

About a year or two ago, we were house hunting and I already knew the story behind the Blackwell House since I lived only a few miles from the house. The inside of this house is gorgeous. A beautiful iron winding staircase & most of the inside is still original. But it was way overpriced for the size so we moved on. But it did have a eerie Feeling but nothing that seemed threatning. But most older homes have the same feeling. I just had to see for myself and it just so happened to be for sale when we were house hunting. Perfect opportunity. I later told my family the story of the house after we had left.

My friend use to live in this house. It is so beautiful. She moved away, but never believed there were ghosts in there. She didn’t have any experiences. They did have a small fire in the attic, but she thought it was caused by lightning. This was her dream home and I can say from personal experience that it is gorgeous, although me being a little spoiled, would probably not be in there alone. I think they lived there over 6 years.

I used to live down the street from this house growing up. It’s in the historic part of Bartlett. The house was indeed always for sale and when someone would buy it, they never stayed for long. I remember it being for sale all the time. People always said it was haunted, but I don’t know if I believe in ghosts.
