We're authors and paranormal researchers. One of cases we investigated for our recent book, Haunted Travels of Michigan, was Bowers Harbor Inn. We spent months researching the Legend of Genevieve. We also had the opportunity of conducting an overnight investigation with a team that we've worked with on a few investigation. Some interesting video and audio were captured.

The elevator in the home wasn't only used by Jennie. Her husband, Charles, was an invalid (confined to a wheelchair). The elevator was the only way he could get to their bedroom on the top floor.

BTW, Jennie died before Charles, not after ... and she didn't hang herself in the elevator!!!

Inspite of that, there is something unusual/paranormal going on at Bowers Harbor Inn. Don't know if it's Jennie, Charles or the original owners of the first farmhosue, but there is something.

We just went there Saturday August 22nd. We walked into the Restaurant (lower floor) which no body was in there at the moment and started looking around. We were finally greeted by a member of the wait staff who informed us that "yes, there was such a legend" but sadly he pointed out that the mirror from upstairs was brought down stairs AND the special glass was replaced with normal glass. Nothing like taking the haunt out of the place??!?!?!! Not satisfied with this we snuck upstairs after they left and found the bathroom and the Elevator. We tried our best provoke the ghosts, taunting her calling her fat and other such things to see if she would show. I even stepped inside the elevator (not sure how a fatty like Geneive could fit in that small thing) and started taunting her. My sister preteneded to hang herself while in the elevator... We then went into the Womans room and found a giant mirro in the sitting area of it. This was still not the type that made you look thinner, but none-the-less my sister kept posing in it and we were snapping pictures left and right...NOTHING happened. Oh well something are best left to the imagination...right?

Febuary 14th, 2002 my father was getting married to his second wife, Kathy. I was 15 years old. They decided to have their reception at Bowers Harbor Inn. I have lived in Traverse City most of my life and this was my first and only visit to this place. During the reception while eating dinner my aunt went to the bathroom.

I remember sitting next to my half brother. We heard my aunt screaming in the other room. The bathroom door was a typical swinging bathroom door that led into a room with stalls. This door had no lock and no latch, simply would swing shut behind whoever entered.

My uncle tried to open the door but it would not budge. Finally it opened, my aunt was terrified. She said the lights had gone out and the door would not open. This is my experience of the haunting of Bowers Harbor.

I don't believe in ghosts. I think that the human phyche can produce all sorts of sights and sounds. Because these feelings and thoughts are generated at the deepest parts of our brains they seem as if they were real. Creating a memory that is vivid and concrete to the individual. I do however like the excitement of suspending reality and being enveloped by the posibility of such occurances. Just as the excitement of rollercoasters or skydiving. Adrenelin rushes are awesome sensations.

Whom ever doesn't beleave this I must say that you stink! I havn't heard the freezer thing, but I have heard about the glasses and the mirors. And, some times, when the employees put the chairs up and the table stuff away for the night, they come back the next morning to find wine poared in the cups and the chairs in positions as if someone had been sitting in them

Yes, I would say the upstairs bathroom is active--I had an experience there about 5 years back. I was there with my teenage niece who was calling Genevieve's name over and over to see if she would appear in the bathroom mirror. Suddenly there were five VERY loud bangs on one of the metal stalls as if to say "stop!" It worked - we got out of there as fast as we could! I called the Inn soon afterwards and and they said it sounded like something Genevive would do (and they hoped I would return even though this had happened).
A couple of years ago, my sister, who is a ghost hunter, was investigating on the second floor and felt as if something had gone right through her--it was so strong, it almost took her down. I would say that if you are looking for Genevive, you might try the second floor where she used to spend a lot of her time before she died.
