I used to live in kountze Texas, its only a few miles from bragg and its totally freaky…well it used to be, but now ppl have moved onto the road so its more lit up…but not that much. Anyway, the light changes colors (supposedly if it gets mad its red (and it does turn red) and it turns white when its calm) and when you make alot of noise it gets closer to you to see what you are and if you posess the mans head. and if your car is dusty when you go there, after you leave there will be baby hand prints on your car from the spirit of the baby that was trown from the train and into the river (the road is right next to rail road tracks) and died.
There are some creepy stories with the road, but the light is real, we used to go all the time to see if we could see a ghost or if something would happen. however, the light is not always visible. Some nights you cant see it, but others you can. whether or not u believe the story of the headless man, Just know that the light itself is real, I have seen it and so has hundred others

I’ve been down brags road many times.
I live in Liberty, not too far from it.
When me, my friend, her brother and another friend went down there, we seen the light. Infront of us and an orange one behind us. Our friends even claimed to see diffrent lights in the forest.
There is houses down Brag Road.
(read on the sign, before you enter brag road)
One is supposed to be the house of a woman claimed to be a witch, who died, many years ago.
She luered, innocent children, into her home and no one ever saw them again.
I’ve seen the graves. They are a few small ones and one bigger one facing the opposite direction.
I’ve also been told, that some people hear children laughing, or screaming, when they were in the cemetary.
I don’t find the Brag Road story scary.
I think the witch one is horrible.

Back in 1971 or ‘72, I lived in Beaumont. I was in my late 20’s and visiting an older friend (50’s or so) when we read an article in the paper about the Sour Lake light. That evening, she, my former husband, her husband, their son, his wife and two small children all piled into their station wagon and headed out to see the mysterious light. I must say here that I never expected to see anything and we all laughed and joked about it the whole ride over to Bragg Road. We were still laughing when one of the children asked what we were looking for and someone answered a light. The child said, “Like the one behind us?” Sure enough, behind us was a dim white light seemingly following us down the road. It stopped when we stopped, then became brighter and changed to a reddish color. Then it sort of rushed up behind the car in the middle of the road and turned a bluish-white and instantly fell back to the place where we had first seen it. That light followed us at a distance and then flying up to nearly hitting us for at least 2 miles and then appeared in front of us doing the same maneuvers. We had stopped laughing. Not much was said on the way home. We got flashlights and 2 spotlights and went straight back in 2 cars. The women and children stayed at the main highway and flashed the spotlight at the men who would stop every quarter mile and flash back. We lost track of them pretty quickly and they reported that they didn’t see anything that time. I did not sleep soundly for a long time wondering what I had seen. It bothers me still which is why I checked out this website. Even though everyone in our little expedition saw the light, I was wondering if anyone else had ever seen it. Appears they have!

er, if the train hit him, how would it take only his head? Why the he!! would a train pass through a thicket anyway? If it was a hazy night, then couldn’t it be a car on an adjacent road? And what is with the bull that it follows cars? cuz yea, if i was hit by a train i would take all my spirit anger out on cars and freak the ppl out in them.

Ok, this is for ALL the people who say its not real or its fake. How the H*** do you know? Have You Been Down The Road? I say, if u are one of the people who say its bull, Get your butt out of the house and look. If you dont see it, fine, if you do, great. There are only certain times of night when u see it.

I’ve never been down the road, but i wanna go soooo bad.

I have been down Bragg Road many times and have never seen the so called light. I heard the story when I was a child but never believed it. The story goes he was inspecting a train car and it rolled ahead decapitating the man. He know roams the road, which was the old railroad, with his lantern looking for his head. So the light everyone says they’ve seen is not the man but his lantern…that is if the story is true.

okay guys, the bragg light… I’ve seen this. If you do research on the net you will find out about 5 other ghost lights, the maco light, the gurdon lights, the early lights, and the lights in brooklet georgia. 3 of these have the same story of an engineer losing his head, like the saratoga story, however a common theme amongst these lights is they are located near a swamp or a marshy area and a train track, duh….you might want to look all this up before you want to cave into a ghost light. Yes, I know the light dissappears if you run up to it or chase it, even if you watch it for 5 mins, it always vanishes. But most likely this is fox fire or just methane burning off from some leaves.

I never saw any houses out there I saw a lumber office, I went 4 miles down by the end by the school. How close are they to the actual road. And the story about the baby hand prints are from a school bus accident in san antonio….here are some more ghost light links from other states that involves a headless engineer and a swampy, or wet and marshy area.

ITS WAS REALLY COOL , WHEN WE ALL GOT LOUD IT WOULD DISAPPEAR BUT COME BACK AS WE ALL GOT QUITE. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT IT HAD BEEN A CAR BUT WE WOULD OF SEEN 2 LIGHTS NOT THE 1. AND WE WATCHED IT FOR A GOOD WHILE AND IF IT HAD BEEN A CAR IT WOULD OF REACHED US BY THAT TIME.. I PLAN ON GOING BACK SOON WITH MY HUSBAND AND SOME FRIENDS.. WHERE DID THEY GET SOUR LAKE FROM… IVE ALWAYS CALLED IT SARATOGA LIGHTS.. IF YOU LOOK UP ON THE INTERNET THIS IS WHAT IT SAYS “The “Light of Saratoga” is a legend located in the Big Thicket of Southeast Texas. This legend of a mysterious light is also known as the “Ghost Road” of Saratoga, the “Saratoga Light”, and “Bragg Road Ghost Light” by local residents. Located on a dirt road, it is a light that may appear and disappear at random during the dark of night without explanation.” SO IM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE SOUR LAKE CAME FROM…

kelli says:

this is for real. it is not caused by gases. unsolved mysteries and national geographic both did documentaries on it and it cannot be explained. i have been going there since 1982..and still go..the light does appear and will chase your car but that is it. sometimes it dances around in the road then shoots towards you very fast and disappears. if you doubt this..go see for yourself. it does not always come out tho. i have been many times and seen nothing. other times it was undeniable. it really is an unexplianable and hey.. i don’t have to convince you, i know what’s up. i am from that area… all my life. it has been going on i don’t now how many years.

Guys, it’s foxfire, methane that comes off decaying material. The area is real marshy and wet like most of the thicket is. It doesn’t have to be near a swamp the area is in prime condition particularly the road, the tree’s provide quiet a theater with it’s darkness for the gas to reflect off. Ask any geologist.
