i grew up in silsbee, right near kountze.
we had our family reunion at honey island every year.
the night of the reunion some of the adults would take us kids to the bragg light and tell us all the stories, etc, etc.
it was always scary as hell, saw some lights occasionally, coulda been car lights, gas, who knows.
always had things hit the car in the dark, when we’d get home there would be human handprints in the dust on the outside of the car.
scared, freaky stuff every time.
fast forward ten years or so, now i’m of driving age.
it seems that the older kids always got to go to bragg light an hour or so ahead of the group with the younger kids. they’d park out on the main road and go on up bragg light rd and hide.
once we pulled in they were always there in ambush and they’d sneak out and hit the car, scare the hell out of the kids, and keep the story going.
so whether it was true or not, who knows.
but it was fun scaring the younger kids in the family.
this was all from about 1980-1991, so it was still unpaved, unlit, and no sign with “ghost road” or whatever they call it now.
it’s just the bragg light.

oh, there was a sign someways down the road that was handpainted with “sausage” written on it. so we always told the younger kids there was a cannibal family ala TX Chainsaw Massacre to spice up the spookiness.

anyways, it was always fun and scary, who cares if it’s real or not.
