Real Haunted House

Bragg Rd.

Saratoga, Texas

This hotel at the end of this street was once run by a well known innkeeper. The man, however, was decapitated by an oncoming train during the latter part of the nineteenth century. Now a strange light is seen near the hotel; it is allegedly the innkeeper searching for his head.

I have been down bragg road many, many times before. And had never seen anything, until 10/25/05 – I had 6 people with me and I had mentioned going to saratoga because we live in beaumont which is only about 30 miles from it. So we head over to bragg road and go all the way down to the cemetary. We get out and mess around for a while, take a few pictures and freak ourselves out. So we all get back in my car and start going back down the road. I wasnt driving at the time my friend Matt was and he is from that area. I was messing around in the back set with my girlfriend and told Matt to turn the lights off, so he did, I look back to see a light coming from the right side of the road, and all of the sudden this ball of redish orange light basiclly floats across the road it paused for a second and started to go upward into the trees, I watched as it went behind the trees and followed in the woods for about 5 seconds until it was gone. We had witnessed the lights and I tell you it was scary as ****. And also the pictures we had to didnt come out, thet had orangish dots all over them. This is a true story!

It’s the same Bragg road as the other story. It actually is between these two towns. The small towns in this part of the state are very close together so people who live in one town or another claim it as their own. The local Beaumont newspaper does a story on this legend every year at Halloween. I lived in the area for three years. 2001-2004

I live in Houston and hunt on a deer lease in East Texas (near Burkeville)and Bragg road is between the two and so my friend Mike and I decided one Thursday night to head out about 12:30 or closer to 1am and detour to “Ghost Road” and see for ourselves on the way to the lease. Well, we got all fired up on the way there and when we arrived at the sign at the entrance of Bragg road, we were pretty spooked. I had never been down the road and I had a trailer pulling a fourwheeler on back and the road was muddy so I was nervous because I didn’t know how it’d be if we had to turn around out there or whatever. Anyways, it was about 2:45am when we arrived and got out and videotaped the sign and all and we had to drive slow because it was slippery but we drove the whole thing and saw nothing! Now, my truck does not allow the lights to turn off while it’s driving so, we had the lights on the whole trip but still saw nothing. The road itself was spooky as are most east Texas dirt roads at night and we kept expecting to see something but didn’t. When we crossed the tracks and came to the highway again we turned and went to my lease. I’m wondering, should we have crossed the highway and stayed on the dirt road? Do we need our lights off? And where is the cemetary?

My brother and I went to braggs road it was spooky,we only saw one light it was orange looking saw if for a few mins and dispeared never saw it again. My brother thoought it was headlights from cars passing by but i don’t think it is cause of how far down the road we were on.We took pictures none really came out that well a few pictures orbs came up on and that was it still that was spooky enough for me.But we do tend to go back again at a later time like around 1am hopefully we will see more then what we saw.

If you have a map of Texas, just find Saratoga,Tx. Then, find the intersection of 787 and 770 just west of Saratoga. If your coming from the west on 770, you’ll turn left on 787 and drive about 5 minutes and see a dark road to the right and it has a sign saying “Ghost road scenic route”. Enter at your own risk! We didn’t see anything though, but it was spooky and it gets muddy so pick a good dry night!

Last night, me and my friends decided to head out to Bragg Road. We live in Jefferson County so it took us a good forty five minutes to get there. We pull into the road and start watching for the light. We go all the way down the road, stopping every few miles to watch. We don’t see anything but drunk teenagers hanging out about half way down the road. So we go all the way to the end and park, trying to decide if we want to take the highway back or make another drive down the road. While discussing, a red glow appears in the middle of the road. It hung in the air for a few seconds and then it was gone. I was a little freaked out and thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me until someone else in the car asked if anybody else saw that. We turn the lights off and watch. A minute or so later we see an orange light that went from left to right and could have no way been headlights because it would get bright and then go out. We watched it for ten or so minutes trying to figure out if it was an oncoming car. It really looked like someone carrying a flashlight or lantern while walking. We decide to go and see if it was a car and were even more freaked out to see the only other car on the road was parked with no lights on about four miles down. There were three of us and we all saw the same thing and were all equally freaked out. I don’t know what we saw, but would like to think it was the light.

family is from the area and live a short distance from the road in question. when i was a child my teenage cousins decided to freak me out by driving down that road at night…it must have been close to or on my birthday because the point was to keep me away from the house for a while. I just remember nearly peeing my pants and the group Journey on the radio. I dont remember seeing any lights and all through the time I lived in Texas the stories about hte road were around.

I have lived 10-15 minutes from Bragg Rd. My whole life…The dirt road is about 9.3 miles long, very dark and spooky at night. I have always heard stories from my dad, family, and friends, about the Bragg Light, drove up and down the road in the middle of the night many times hell i’ve even partied and got drunk at the pipeline… But I have never seen any lights besides flashlights and carlights. It may be there, but I have never seen it.

Well I must say growing up I never did believe what people had told me. it was more like I just would have to see it for myself. well last night 7/28/06 at 11:00pm a few of us went and we 2 1/2 miles down the road we stopped with lights off and we saw a round white light from behind us, which everyone thought was a car. it was about 300 yards or so from us. the light was about 6ft above the ground then it started to get closer then it jumped about 15ft higher into the air then it came from around 300 yards or so to about 15 feet from the back of our truck in a very very short time. then it moved over to the side of the road and went down to about 5 or so feet above the ground and just went out. so that’s what we saw and now I have to admit I believe some of the stories now.

Minx yes it is the same place. I have been there myself. It really does happen. When I went the light went through our truck did not go over or around it. It totally freaked me out. I do not scare easy. I was totally freaked. Not everyone in Texas that gets killed by a train is beheaded. One of my cousins tryed to beat a train and was hit in his car by the train and he was busted up pretty bad. He did not live but he had his whole body attached did not lose anything. So if you are to scared to go check it out then quite talking about this like it is a joke. For the one who said that you have found his head I would not go there with that attuide if I were you. You just might lose your head to him. I do believe if he found someone with a head he really likes or they go there with that type of attitude then you just might die.

Ive been down Bragg Rd. many times and have seen the ‘lights’. The last time that I was there, some friends and I drew a pentagram in the middle of the dirt road and lit candles ( placing them around the points of the pentagram). We read from a book that is available on my website and began the required chanting. No more than 2 minutes went by before we started seeing the light. The light started down in the brush along the side of the road and ‘floated’ towards us. As we were completing the chant, the light hovered over the 4 of us and began to rise straight into the sky. I would say that the light was about 100 feet above our head when it suddenly started comming right back down, VERY FAST!!! It went right down through the center of the pentagram and then it became extremely quiet. We started looking around at each other and it was right around then that the temperature dropped like 20 degrees. You could feel that there was something there that didnt want us there.
We started packing up after our long night and it was then that we heard what sounded like an owl screecking. My friend was lifted off his feet and thrown back about 15 feet. We almost left him there because we were running our butts off towaqrds the truck! As we drove down the road the light we had seen earlier wass back and seemed to be chasing us. It wasnt until we got back on the road that we lost the light. I dont think that we’ll be going back there this halloween.

I spent my whole life living about two miles from Brag Road. It is a long straight road which has a curve at one end. If you are on the opposite end of the road from the curve, when a car takes the curve at night, you will see a bright white light (headlights), and then a glowing red light (taillights). This, however, is not the bragg light.

Hundreds of people have experienced the Bragg Light. It is something real, although we dont know what. Years ago National Geographic even studied it for an artical. Their opinion was, “Fox Fire” or phosphorous rising from the swampy ground floor, and stumps.

That would not explain the slowly floating orb which has been known to chase cars and people, or to stop on a car hood.

I have seen it myself, and was accompanied by my parents and a lady friend of ours. We all saw it. I dont know what it is, but I do know that it is real.

I just stumbled upon this site and have enjoyed reading the comments. I’d like to share my own experiences with the Bragg Light.

As a kid, growing up in Liberty county, many of my family members often spoke about their encounters with the elusive light in Saratoga. I was always a skeptic and didn’t believe much of it. Finally, at around the age of 15, I decided it was time to venture into the deep East Texas woods and check this thing out for myself. So, one summer night, I rounded up a couple of buddies, one who was old enough to drive, and off to Saratoga we went.

Around 1 a.m., we turned off of FM 787 onto Bragg Rd and within a mile or so we decided that we should turn the headlights off and use the moonlight to guide us the rest of the way. Now, let me tell you, light or no light, Bragg Rd. is (or was in the late-80’s) one lonely, scary place in the wee hours of the morning. After venturing down the road several miles in the dark, as I remember, we reached an agreement that it would be best to pull over to the side of the road and kill the engine.

About an hour passed, as we sat on the roadside in total darkness just shootin’ the breeze and talking about things that teenage boys do, not really thinking about the light. After all, not one of us really expected to see this thing. Suddenly, the guy in the backseat claims to have caught a glimpse of a “floating” light that appeared to be hundreds of yards down the road from where we were parked. I thought he was pulling our leg.

A minute or two later, all doubt and skepticism was gone from everyone in the car. The light reappeared and this time it hung around.

It first appeared a great distance down the road from the car and was very small. It slowly moved closer to a range that I estimate was probably about 50 yards from us. We were all scared to death because at this point it was obvious that this was like nothing we had ever experienced before. The most skiddish, spooked kid in the car actually pee’d on himself! And he’s yet to live it down. Anyway, the light quickly moved from about 50 yards out to nearly right on top of our car in an instant! One second it was hovering about 6 or 7 feet off the ground in front of the hood and the next second it was gone.

One of the creepiest things about the light was the manner in which it moved. It was completely unnatural and not like anything we were familiar with. It also seemed to be aware of our presence. As I remember, the light had a yellow to orange glow about it.

It’s safe to say that we were believers after that night!

We returned to Bragg Rd. several times after that night and was never lucky enough to see the light again. It’s been years since I’ve been down that lonely old dirt road and I’d like to make the trip and try my luck again sometime. It’s neat to read that it has been spotted in recent times.

Steve Batson says:

I have lived within a few miles of this road all of my life. I’m in my late twenties. The light is real and I don’t think it cares who believes in it and who don’t. If it did, then it would show up consistantly. :) …As for the drunks down the road, I must say that they are usually quite friendly. Sometimes, I am among them. Its just quiet place to hang out and noone really bothers you down there. People usually drink at one of the two pipelines down the road, and build a fire or whatever. As far as the light goes, I have seen it probably five or ten times, but I’ve been down the road hundreds of times. I have never been chased or threatened by it and I have even drove down by myself and napped in the bed of my truck waiting on friends to show up late at night. I’m not saying that it won’t, just that when I’ve seen it, it has always been twenty five to fifty yards away. Seems as if the color varies. I’m not saying it was a ghost, but I know for a fact that it wasn’t anything that could be explained simply by some skeptic. Harmless as it may seem, everytime I have seen it, my bood runs cold, the hair on the back of my neck stands up and I get goose bumps.

I and a friend went to Bragg Road recently (02/03/2007 and arrived at the Bragg Rd. around 11: 15 pm. I was about to turn my car into the road when my friend FREAKED OUT AND BEGAN SCREAMING AT ME !!!!
She screamed at me not to turn down the road because their was EVIL in those woods and she could feel it’s presence. She grabbed my steering wheel from me and forced my car nearly off of the road. We came all the way from Houston and this is what I get for bringing a woman along, who joked and laughed with me all the way up to Bragg road for two hours, making fun of Bragg Road. I guess the Bragg Road had the last laugh though. She was so hysterical I had to do as she demanded and turned my car around back to Houston.
Next time, (real soon), I will be returning to Bragg Road solo!!

I’ve lived in Saratoga my whole life. It’s funny to read these city folk tales. There is no cemetery that you can go to on Bragg. There are a few Mexican graves in the area, but they are before you get to Bragg and on the opposite side of the highway. Most people from Saratoga (the drunks) know that there is something down there but it cleary only attacks sober people on road trips. I don’t know of anyone who has been physically attacked.

I live in Lufkin TX, i moved here when i was 2 years old from New Caney just out side of Houston. But 2 years ago me and my family and some friends whet to sartoga “my dad has been there twice and has seen it dance in the sky above the tree line” but when we went we dident see nothing.Yesterday me and 4 of my friends went and i have been telling them about it for a while so they wanted to go. my friend driving is my best friend that went the frist time with me, so we get there and they are freaking about when we take the bragg road comeing off from the FM. we were there for about an hour and a half just driving up and down, then we get out of the car. not long after that i see a glowing light at the end of the road like a sunrise. at first i thought it was another car because the road was prutty buzy “btw the light came from the other way… not the way that when people see the car lights and then turn and dissapear no it was from the other way” and it had a very orjange glow to it and it was very far at first but in about 1minute it became very close my friends about 60-80 feet and i was so excited but so freaked out, then we started yelling at it as it got closer. then one of my friends shined the flash light on it but it was to far away to distinguished it as a huax then he quicklt turned the light off and about 10 seconds later he turned the light back on and the light of the flashlight shined past the glowing light and there was nobody near it so we are all freaked out and the light is just floating there. then as we all looked the dissapear and then we all screamed like little girls and it reappeared and then floated over to the other side of the road and dissapeared and then reappeared. we tryed getting closer to it but it wouldent let us it was like beconing us to follow it and we did. we got the last 10seconds on the video camera but it had coved away from us because we got the car to try and chase it down and then a car had turned onto the road and was coming down and then the light vanished. but i beleive my dad now for all these years of ghost lights. Btw he told us not to curse the light if it dident show up. the second time he went with his girlfriend he cursed the light for it dident show and on the way home he hurd a car engine but no car was around him no head lights nothing and then all of a suddent he was hit from behind and he hit a telephone poll.
If you havent been to bragg road you must go. even if you dont see the light the first time if you take some friends it will still be fun… and the road is the spookiest place iv ever seen.

Also some redneck was sitting close to the beginning of the road next to a huge fire, when he saw our car he lifted up a big shotgun and pointed at us. friken weirdo. A while back a scientist examined the air around the siting. He discovered that the actual “lights” we are seeing is a gas called fox fire.

I have been to Bragg Road on several occasions, since first discovering it on the Internet. The light has always appeared to me. It knows me. I don’t know how I know this, I just do. It will appear a hundred yards from me, but will not get in my face, like it did the very first time I encountered it. The light is real, that is all I can say. Take 105 pas Sour Lake (approx 12 miles)

take 770 on the right (there is a school on the left and a 55mph sign)

go approx 4 miles, over a small bridge and take the road to the left
787-go approx 2 miles and you will see the
“OLD GHOST ROAD” sign on the right.
drive about 5 miles doen that road
(there are only 2 turn arounds….go to the 2nd one, it is on the LEFT)

turn your car AROUND so you are facing the way you came in….
that is the direction the light comes from.

and yes, it is an orangish ball that gets bigger and smaller..

I went to the Brag Lights and wow…I never believed anything like this before. Everyone tells me that it is a true thing, but…Like I said….I couldn’t believe it. Well, we went down the road one night that was very clear. All of a sudden we stopped the vehicle, we then saw a light flicker. The orange glow just went from one side of the road to the other. We tried driving closer to it…But it just kept getting further away the closer we got to it. But it would go across the road, then come back across the road. It went across probably 3 times and then dissappeared into the woods. I know that it was true then. I dont really know WHAT it was, but…It freaked me out.

I have been to bragg road, aka “Ghost road”. A cop lives on that road now from what I believe. My brother and a couple of friends use to take girls out there to freak them out and scare the heck out of them. It is for real though. I see it every time I go out. Once the light came up from the side of our car though and that kind of freaked me out. All the other times it has come from behind us or in front.

I did research on the road about a year ago. The road use to be a loading track for the train tracks across the highway(where they say the dead witch is burried). Anyway there was a record of a man who lost his head on that track, and shortly after not even three years the tracks were torn down and a dirt road was laid over the once laid tracks. Rumors say they tore the tracks down and let the crews go because men were droping like flies out there.

Not sure how much of the research is truth. However, I did get a lot of the info from a place not to far from there. Cleveland TX library.

I find this pretty funny. I have never seen the light myself never actually been there during the night either. My dad however grew up there and said he has seen this light on many occasions. My dads grandfather my great grandfather actually was the one who signed the death certificate of the said man whose ghost that roams searching for his head. Funny thing is from the stories I have heard the doctor states that he died of natural causes. They dont know what happened to his head or how he lost it just that they found is decapitated body by the railroad.

That is the most combined and warped version of this story I have ever heard. The Motel and the alleged RR worked have nothing in common. Now I have heard a couple of freaky stories about the motel, and how someone saw it as they passed, even though it was long gone years before.

Me and some friends went to Ghost Road last night and there was just a lot of stuff that went down. We took a car and a truck. We were planning on jumping in the back of the truck when we got there. I drove the car and when came up onto the road the girl driving the truck slammed into me right in front of Ghost Road. So were stuck there upset because we pretty much drove an hour to just get in a wreck. So as were sitting there waiting for someone who lived about 20 minutes away to come help us me and 2 of my friends decide to just start walking down the road until we the call that guy was there. We walked down to the first sign and we get the call. So we start to head back one of the guys with me was little behind because he wanted to keep walking down and when me and the other guy turn around to tell him come one the light appears about 50 yards away. We start freaking out and start slowly backing up. Then we see his body holding the lantern and he bends over to the side of the road and disappears. We start running back and then he appeared closer. When we make it back we just stood there at the beginning of the road looking at him pacing back in forth across the road as if he was waiting, daring us to come down. He was slowly getting closer as we watched. It was the scariest time we’ve went and I’ve been 4 times and seen the light every time. It’s real and anyone who doesn’t think so or have been and didn’t see the light, keep going. He will appear eventually. And he doesn’t play around.

We have been a couple of times. The first time me and my daughter went by ourselves and scared ourselves and really didnt see anything. The second time we went with my son and daughter and her friend and we saw red orbs in the thicket. We decided to park with the lights out and I saw a red orb come from behind us as I watched it in the side mirror come toward us and it stopped and hovered on the truck I put the car in drive and took off. A little while later we pulled off and parked to read a sign and we heard very scary sounds coming toward us (water was next to road) and we took off. We drove to the tracks and saw many blinking orbs in the trees and screeching sounds coming from the tracks (no train). We left. It is scary to drive down the road and sometimes you see the lights and sometime you dont. The later it is (12-3am) is the best time to see them. I havent been in a while and need directions from Houston again to go. Thanks

I have lived near bragg road all my life! I also have been down there many times and every time I go down there I always see the light. The light is very hard to explain! For the few that say they have never seen the light, they must be down the wrong road! I am so tired of other towns trying to make up stories of “there” Bragg Road there is only one please stop! My Great Grand-ma knows the story by heart, and before she passed away she told me the story. This train conductor went out to check his train, because it had stopped for no reason. Well when he was checking it out the train it started up and went about as fast as it would if it was going steadily and it knocked his head right off. Well the light your supposed to see is the man searching for his head! The light will follow you and it is very scare but nothing compares to what I encountered! When I was 11 my Grand-ma and Grand-pa took me, my little brothers, and my cousins to bragg road. Well all the kids were in the tail-gate. We had stopped for a min. and were looking at the light. Well wouldn’t you know it, it had started to come towards us ,by that time I was used to the light and knew it wouldn’t harm me! All of the sudden something hit the back of the truck were I was sitting I looked to my left and Saw a guy running towards the woods but it wasn’t a real man , because when he hit the woods it disappeared. When my Grand-ma turned the truck around the light was following us out of the road. I saw a shadow following us from by the woods. I was so frightened Because I have never seen that before. That was the last time I ever went down that road in a truck.

Laci Lou says:

okay so last night my mom stepdad, step brother and my two best friends loaded up in the truck and drove 1 hour and 30 min to see this “light”. We got there about 9/9:30 and started to drive down the road. We were going south… about half way down we saw a bright light (like a light bulb color) and it seemed like it was walking away from us. We continued to follow the light but it went away about 30 seconds later. It seemed then we saw the light any where from 3-7 minute intervals. it was always a white bright lite that got father away from us. We could never catch up to it. When we got to the end of the road we turned arounda and headed back the other way..we saw nothing.
–I don’t know if this was the light but it would be cool to think that it was.

Eve says:

July 7, 2009, 8:07 am

Not only did me and my friends see the light, we entered the cemetery located there. When we entered, we saw movement in the woods on the left side of our vehicle. We stopped to look, not getting out of course, and not but 10 seconds later, a strange man (a real man) walked out-passed our car in the front looking as us, and re-entered the woods to the left of our vehicle. It was truly scary and traumatizing.

Go check it and bring a diaper.

Me and some of my friends have been to bragg road about 3 times now and the first two times we didnâ??t see anything and we thought it was just a fake story and we went back last night and we turned the lights off and parked and after a couple of minutes we seen a blue light way down the road and we thought it was a car or something so we turned out headlights back on and it went away so we started driving again and we stopped and turned the lights off again and sat there for a minute and we seen the light again this time it was closer and much brighter, again we turned the lights on and it went away and after we passed the camp the light was behind us so we turned around on one of the side roads and stopped in front of the camp and we didnâ??t see the light anymore so we went home because we was freaked out! *(This is a True Story Not A Lie)*

I posted this on the other saratoga topic but their are 5 other ghost light stories in the states that involve an engineer loosing his head and searching with a latern, the maco light, the early light and the gurdnor light. They all involve a marshy, swampy, area and an old train track… if you look around the one in alabame the road looks just like the saratoga one…. most likely it is fox fire or methane gas…i’ve seen the light and it is amazing… but here are some links….your going to see this engineer really gets around.

Back in the 80’s, when I was a teenager,My Mom, Dad, Aunt, and 4 of my freinds and I went to Ghost Road.It was so cold outside. My 4 friend and myself were rideing in the back of the truck with blankets freezing our butts off.We stopped at a small little restraunt somewhere near that road and ate and warmed up. All of talking and so excited about going to Ghost Road. There was a policeman sitting at a table in there listening. When we got to the road we slowly went down it then turned around and went back the way we came.My Dad pulled over and turned out the lights. All was so quite.Suddenly we saw a light that looked as though it was floating down the road toward us from the front of our truck. My Mom and Aunt were screaming and the last time I looked at them, they were both in the floorboard hiding and screaming for dear life. I am not sure why the 5 of us in the back of the truck were’nt freaking out. Maybe because it was so funny watching Mom and Aunt Doris.I have to admit it looked like it was just floating down the road and kind of changed colors. When the lights got almost to the front of the truck all of a sudden the policeman from the restraunt flashed his light and passed us up. Listening to us in the diner,I guess he did’nt want us to be dissapointed. To this policeman, if you are reading this, you gave us teenagers the best time that night. The adults were the ones that you scared. That trip was never forgotton.Thanks.

It’s fun to spot the liars on this thred. You can tell some of you haven’t even been down the road before. There is no headless ghost on the road. That story is an unrban legend, it is told in 5 other states. They even have records of the mans name it allegedly happened to. If you scroll up about 10 posts you will see links to 3 other stories with the same headless man. There is a light out there, but you guys need to look it up on youtube. It’s just a light appears, dissappears. You can’t just turn your car around because the road is 8 ft. wide. you can’t speed off, because you will flip your car. Going 30 is pushing it.

I will be there for our yearly Halloween party. As I read from the May 26,2010 comment, you definitely can NOT go fast and we were ablt to turn around but it was a very slow process. I havent saw the light as of yet. The children’s hand prints is new for me to ever hear. It looks like I may need to try that.

I live in Saratoga. We go to Bragg Road all the time. Every time I go, I start at the FM 787 side because I live on that side. What you do is turn your lights off at the beginning of the road and drive slowly all the way down. Just keep your eyes open for any lights. Also, there are usually other cars driving down the road, and sometimes their headlights can be mistaken for the light. But if, as you continue towards the light, it stays in one ball and doesn’t split into two (headlights), then this is the light. All the times I’ve been and seen it, it has never gotten past the front of my car. It is never beside you, in the woods. If you see it, you will see it in the middle of the road. When you come out at FM 1293, go straight and there is a set of railroad tracks. People just play on those, you know the classic legend of the kids that will push your car off for you if it turns off? Well, there is no Saratoga story like that, but people still play on the tracks. Also, if you go all the way down, to the 1293 side, you can turn right and go down that highway until you see another dirt road, then turn down it and keep going until you come to a graveyard. Somewhere in the graveyard is the Witch’s Grave, but every time you go the headstone is moved a different way. I’ve seen the headstone a few times and every time it is moved a different way. Scary stuff. But take it from a person who has lived in Saratoga her whole life, the light is real!

Just saw it tonight. My husband told our 4 yr. old the “Ghost Light Story” and she asked about it for days. Our neighbor Al heard her ask about it and he had never been, so we decide we might go Friday night. So, neighbor and his wife, me Eugene and Em take a road trip to the Bragg Road to see what it’s about. And we see it. At first we tried to explain it away as another car coming down the road. Never meet a car. At first it appeared as a small red light, then as a whitish-yellow and “flickering” like a flame. It always stayed the same distance away like “you could never reach it.” As we drove down the road it would disappear and reappear often, looking larger and smaller at times. Then when you are reaching the end of the road it does the very same thing, but it is now behind you! We got out of the car to get a better look and I jokingly yelled, “I have your head!” That light flickered bright three times. You will never convince me that I didn’t communicate with a ghost.

When will people start believing in the world of the supernatural?
Bragg Rd is haunted by a headless ghost that manifests itself as a ghostly light. The headless one is not the only spook too terrorize people on that road, but it is the predominate manifestation.
If you go out to Bragg Road searching for spooks, be warned, you may just find what you are looking for on that dark creepy lonely road!!

My husband & I went down Bragg Rd. Saturday, October 22nd. We had both been down the road years before when we were teenagers (we now have grown kids). We saw kids partying and trying to scare those passing by. Neither of us saw the lights but did feel something incredibly strange. I was driving our Expedition with all of the windows down and the moonroof open. My husband was on the passenger side kneeling on the seat with his upper body out of the window. We turned onto the road from the Saratoga side and turned off the headlights, leaving only the parking lights. We were traveling maybe 5-10mph, so no breeze. After maybe two miles, the air temperature substantially dropped. I felt like someone was blowing air directly into my face. Also, I felt like something heavy was on me, not arms but rather like a coat or something. I didn’t feel warm by any means, just simply weighted down. My husband & I both made comments of how cold it suddenly felt. We continued down Bragg Rd until we got to the highway on the North end. We crossed the road, crossed the tracks, and went by the place that we thought the hotel had once stood (North side of tracks). The road curves sharply to the right not far past there. We decided to turn around. The air temperature warmed quite a bit when we were turning around. I can’t explain why the temperature seemed to change so much, but I know something was with us. Very freaky, indeed!

This is REAL. I’ve been there & have experienced the light for myself. The key is to drive over the railroad tracks, then to drive back. When heading back down the road we stopped for a few minutes, cut the lights off & waited. At first we saw nothing but right as we were ready to drive away, we saw it. It’s an orb of light that looks to be swinging back in forth. I don’t believe it to be the actual spirit itself, the story that I was told that it’s the light from the spirits lantern as he comes to warn passers by to stay away from the tracks.

We began to walk down the road, it was around 11 p.m. We came up to an old car that was parked on the side of the road. We thought perhaps, maybe someone was inside the car that could help us.I tapped on the passenger side window several times and no one answered. Then all of a sudden, a ghostly figure of an old man appeared and we started to run. I looked back to see if it was chasing us and it was. The old ghost man started screaming,”Mi chorizo,Mi chorizo.” He was swinging what appeared to be an axe. As he caught up to us, he disappeared into thin air. Man, isn’t that real, real scary??

I have investigated the Saratoga lights many times. I have seen the light every-time I have visited Bragg rd. I have witnessed it in broad daylight, twilight, and in the middle of the night. I have heard a train whistle that seemed to be emulating from inside my vehicle. I don’t believe it has anything to do with a decapitated railway man. Anything paranormal that happens around a railroad or where a railroad use to exist seems to always have a spooky story attached about a decapitaTED railway-man. From the research I’ve done, I think it could be some sort of energy from the Kaiser Burnout. Possibly could be an optical illusion from traffic on 787. Although that is highly unlikely. I’ve experience this light act with intelligence. It would move from behind my vehicle to the front, change from white to red, bounce. It’s an amazing phenomenon that I hope many generations to come will be able to see and experience no matter what it may truly be.

We went last night. We thought it would be cool to take my horror movie buff 6 yearold son for Friday the 13th. We drove about a mile before seeing any light. That is still 7 miles from the freeway and it is densely wooded so, I don’t think it was headlights. We were the only cat. We took video but the light doesn’t show in them at all. I got out to take a picture of the sign with the history. It’s been shot up and there is buckshot stuck in the acrylic. While taking a picture of the sign, I felt something hit me. I turned on my video for the light and looked at the ground to see what it was. I didn’t see anythi g and my kids were screaming, scared for me to get back in the car. Now, when I look at the video, I see 2 orange orbs for just a split second.
I got a few pictures of the light and in the photos there is a loop near it. Really cool looking. What freaked me out the most is that coming from the Honey Island direction, on the left past the first history dign, there is a cabin!! Like someone lives there! I bet that is pretty cool. I didn’t see and cemetery. There were many paths where you can pull off, I wonder if they were created by hunters. I didn’t take any of fear of getting stuck.
It was fun, the light is real.
