Bragg Rd.
This hotel at the end of this street was once run by a well known innkeeper. The man, however, was decapitated by an oncoming train during the latter part of the nineteenth century. Now a strange light is seen near the hotel; it is allegedly the innkeeper searching for his head.

Well I must say growing up I never did believe what people had told me. it was more like I just would have to see it for myself. well last night 7/28/06 at 11:00pm a few of us went and we 2 1/2 miles down the road we stopped with lights off and we saw a round white light from behind us, which everyone thought was a car. it was about 300 yards or so from us. the light was about 6ft above the ground then it started to get closer then it jumped about 15ft higher into the air then it came from around 300 yards or so to about 15 feet from the back of our truck in a very very short time. then it moved over to the side of the road and went down to about 5 or so feet above the ground and just went out. so that’s what we saw and now I have to admit I believe some of the stories now.

I think these stories can definitely be possible. Yet, is it me or do you all think this could be some kind of UFO?

This story is so true. My dad’s deerlease camp site is down this road. It seems that all this gets worse on Halloween…I was down there one year for Halloween and I never went back…I don’t like going up there that much because of all this.

Minx yes it is the same place. I have been there myself. It really does happen. When I went the light went through our truck did not go over or around it. It totally freaked me out. I do not scare easy. I was totally freaked. Not everyone in Texas that gets killed by a train is beheaded. One of my cousins tryed to beat a train and was hit in his car by the train and he was busted up pretty bad. He did not live but he had his whole body attached did not lose anything. So if you are to scared to go check it out then quite talking about this like it is a joke. For the one who said that you have found his head I would not go there with that attuide if I were you. You just might lose your head to him. I do believe if he found someone with a head he really likes or they go there with that type of attitude then you just might die.

Ive been down Bragg Rd. many times and have seen the ‘lights’. The last time that I was there, some friends and I drew a pentagram in the middle of the dirt road and lit candles ( placing them around the points of the pentagram). We read from a book that is available on my website and began the required chanting. No more than 2 minutes went by before we started seeing the light. The light started down in the brush along the side of the road and ‘floated’ towards us. As we were completing the chant, the light hovered over the 4 of us and began to rise straight into the sky. I would say that the light was about 100 feet above our head when it suddenly started comming right back down, VERY FAST!!! It went right down through the center of the pentagram and then it became extremely quiet. We started looking around at each other and it was right around then that the temperature dropped like 20 degrees. You could feel that there was something there that didnt want us there.
We started packing up after our long night and it was then that we heard what sounded like an owl screecking. My friend was lifted off his feet and thrown back about 15 feet. We almost left him there because we were running our butts off towaqrds the truck! As we drove down the road the light we had seen earlier wass back and seemed to be chasing us. It wasnt until we got back on the road that we lost the light. I dont think that we’ll be going back there this halloween.

I spent my whole life living about two miles from Brag Road. It is a long straight road which has a curve at one end. If you are on the opposite end of the road from the curve, when a car takes the curve at night, you will see a bright white light (headlights), and then a glowing red light (taillights). This, however, is not the bragg light.
Hundreds of people have experienced the Bragg Light. It is something real, although we dont know what. Years ago National Geographic even studied it for an artical. Their opinion was, “Fox Fire” or phosphorous rising from the swampy ground floor, and stumps.
That would not explain the slowly floating orb which has been known to chase cars and people, or to stop on a car hood.
I have seen it myself, and was accompanied by my parents and a lady friend of ours. We all saw it. I dont know what it is, but I do know that it is real.

I just stumbled upon this site and have enjoyed reading the comments. I’d like to share my own experiences with the Bragg Light.
As a kid, growing up in Liberty county, many of my family members often spoke about their encounters with the elusive light in Saratoga. I was always a skeptic and didn’t believe much of it. Finally, at around the age of 15, I decided it was time to venture into the deep East Texas woods and check this thing out for myself. So, one summer night, I rounded up a couple of buddies, one who was old enough to drive, and off to Saratoga we went.
Around 1 a.m., we turned off of FM 787 onto Bragg Rd and within a mile or so we decided that we should turn the headlights off and use the moonlight to guide us the rest of the way. Now, let me tell you, light or no light, Bragg Rd. is (or was in the late-80’s) one lonely, scary place in the wee hours of the morning. After venturing down the road several miles in the dark, as I remember, we reached an agreement that it would be best to pull over to the side of the road and kill the engine.
About an hour passed, as we sat on the roadside in total darkness just shootin’ the breeze and talking about things that teenage boys do, not really thinking about the light. After all, not one of us really expected to see this thing. Suddenly, the guy in the backseat claims to have caught a glimpse of a “floating” light that appeared to be hundreds of yards down the road from where we were parked. I thought he was pulling our leg.
A minute or two later, all doubt and skepticism was gone from everyone in the car. The light reappeared and this time it hung around.
It first appeared a great distance down the road from the car and was very small. It slowly moved closer to a range that I estimate was probably about 50 yards from us. We were all scared to death because at this point it was obvious that this was like nothing we had ever experienced before. The most skiddish, spooked kid in the car actually pee’d on himself! And he’s yet to live it down. Anyway, the light quickly moved from about 50 yards out to nearly right on top of our car in an instant! One second it was hovering about 6 or 7 feet off the ground in front of the hood and the next second it was gone.
One of the creepiest things about the light was the manner in which it moved. It was completely unnatural and not like anything we were familiar with. It also seemed to be aware of our presence. As I remember, the light had a yellow to orange glow about it.
It’s safe to say that we were believers after that night!
We returned to Bragg Rd. several times after that night and was never lucky enough to see the light again. It’s been years since I’ve been down that lonely old dirt road and I’d like to make the trip and try my luck again sometime. It’s neat to read that it has been spotted in recent times.

I have lived within a few miles of this road all of my life. I’m in my late twenties. The light is real and I don’t think it cares who believes in it and who don’t. If it did, then it would show up consistantly.
…As for the drunks down the road, I must say that they are usually quite friendly. Sometimes, I am among them. Its just quiet place to hang out and noone really bothers you down there. People usually drink at one of the two pipelines down the road, and build a fire or whatever. As far as the light goes, I have seen it probably five or ten times, but I’ve been down the road hundreds of times. I have never been chased or threatened by it and I have even drove down by myself and napped in the bed of my truck waiting on friends to show up late at night. I’m not saying that it won’t, just that when I’ve seen it, it has always been twenty five to fifty yards away. Seems as if the color varies. I’m not saying it was a ghost, but I know for a fact that it wasn’t anything that could be explained simply by some skeptic. Harmless as it may seem, everytime I have seen it, my bood runs cold, the hair on the back of my neck stands up and I get goose bumps.

I live near Bragg road and i have been down it a couple of times and never seen the lights.
