I live in Greenfield and I hadn't heard this version although it's always been told that a baby did die at the bridge and the mother cries for it every night around mid night. Been there many times over the years at different times of day and night and nothing ever happened until one night ,(25 +) years ago after riding aroung town with a girlfriend of mine. Her brother and his friend were with us and we stopped on the bridge just to hang out and talk. The thought of going there to hear or see something didn't even cross our minds and that's when it happened. At the exact same moment my girl friend and I heard the most blood curling scream that seemed to come from everywhere all at the same time. It wasn't beside us, in front or behind us just all around us. We didn't speak a word but screamed simulaneously. The guys were instantly mad at us for screaming. My friend and I were so shaken that we began to cry and then the guys knew something was wrong so they started the car and we began to pull away. All of a sudden I needed to know the time but none of us had a watch and and the car didn't have a clock. It did have a CB though and after shouting out a hollar a response can back " Time, 12:03 ". It was so odd that as loud as the scream was that neither of the guys heard anything. Once back at the house I got the idea that maybe the guys had set the whole thing up. They swore they didn't and we sat and talked and tried to rationalize it for hours. None of us slept much that night so first thing the next morning we took another trip to the bridge to look for any kind of an explanation. As mentioned in some of the previous comments this was a in the known drinking spot so we looked for anything that might look as if someone was hiding in the brush, like flatened grass, accumualated beer bottles, etc. We even looked under the bridge thinking there could be a tape recorder or something stuck to one of the beams. Unfortunatly we didn't find a thing. Don't know if you have ever heard a fox when it's in heat, but that's kind of what it sounded like only way worse. Guess it could have been a fox, but still, why could only the girls hear it?

Okay.
I Live In This Town
There ARE MANY HAUNTINGS.
This Is Sad.
But I Tried It.
Off The Bridge I Heard The Faint Sound Of A Older Woman
But Nothing Went On About A Mother Shushing A Baby.
Maybe I Will Try It Agian

No mother in her right mind will stand on railroad tracks and nurse their baby! And most women will sit down somewhere, like a bench or something, to nurse. Babies are heavy and it is hard to hold a baby up so they can nurse while you are standing up. Heck, it's hard to just stand up and hold a baby while doing nothing else. The story makes no sense and nobody would stand with a baby on train tracks long enough to actually get hit by the doggone train, trains give enough warning that they're coming that you can get out of the way. Besides that your arms would get tired from standing there holding a baby in the same positon for any real length of time and you'd have to go find somewhere to sit down. This is a stupid, fake story that would be sad if it ever actually happened!!

i live in greenfield, and have been out to that bridge many many times during the summer for some drinking. although i'll admit it is creepy when its night and there are no lights around, so the moon is your only source of light, and the creek is lit up in a pretty creepy way. honestly, i dont think the stories are true because we've tried it, didnt work, so we spray painted. but i think everyone likes to think its real though, i know i do

I remember when i took my daughter out at night to try and help her sleep...(since found out its not a good long term idea) but anyway, my state of tiredness and being focused so much on my daughter did dull my other senses. Maybe that was just a male thing. You know, not being able to multi task and all.
Lots of love from N.Z.

Well, if you think about it...you can hear a train coming from a mile away. Trains are loud (even when they don't use their horn) and it's not going to come around a bend that fast and kill someone without them hearing it before it even makes it close enough to be threatening to their life. I will agree that it is sad.
