I was there yesterday,,and out in the museum,,the curator asked me if I would go check the upstairs with him,,as he heard footsteps walking the whole length of building. I immediately said yes,,as I was dying to see the upstairs and it isnt open to tours. I walked it with him,,and then I checked the walk up attic, none of the lights worked. Didnt see anything(darn) The head of it is a retired doctor and and not prone to ghost stories.

I have seen the ghost of Brownella cottage and it is none other than the Bishop himself. I saw him sitting in the glass walk-way early one winter morning. He was wearing a black suit coat with long white hair.

Yes the Brownella Cottage has been known for being haunted. I lived in Galion my whole life and my cousin lived acorss the street from it for 11 years. The only thing I ever saw was bishop browns study light would be on then go off after the caretaker had already left. Spooky. My aunt also went there on a tour a couple weeks ago and took pictures of an old fire engine and theres a face in one of the pics. On halloween they have free tours and cookies and refreshments afterwards. I went last year (Oh yea, You CAN go upstairs on the tour) and they also tell you ghost stories thats happend in the house while they are giving you the tours. Its awsome!

I know brownella cottage is haunted because my cousins father stayed there for a few years doing repairs and that kind of stuff and he said that pictures would fall off the wall and he would hear doors closing from the upstairs. her mother also has a picture of the outside and in one of the windows you can see a face and it looks like its a woman.

i live about two blocks from the cottage. it is really spooky. i’ve never been to any of the tours though. i should go soon. maybe this sun. and…i’m gonna bring along a voice recorder…see if i can’t get some EVP’s. as a matter of fact i live in an apt. above the stores downtown and supposedly our apt. used to be a showing room for funerals and the vacant room below us used to be a morgue. i’ve never had anything strange happen here though. it’s actually one of the only places i’ve lived that feel completely normal. weird.

I can testify to this place..my gandma lives a few seconds from the place..our whole family is really big on the superantural..we checked it out one night and saw a light come on and a silohette of someone in the window..so i dunno if it was the “ghost” or a caretaker or what but it went on for a few seconds then kicked off.

Back in 1962 at about 11:00 at night, i was with my girlfriend and we climbed over the iron fence around the cottage to look inside the window. My girlfriend looked and saw no lights illuminating from inside and ran toward me saying she just saw a person walking around. So we ran….

My grandfather was a caretaker of this place for many years in the 60’s and early 70’s before his death, and my brothers and sisters have been all over this inside of this house and the grounds. Never saw a thing. It IS an amazing house, though.

I also grew up in Galion and the Brownella Cottage has long been considered a great place to experience a ghostly presence. The house itself seems out-of-place with its surroundings, as if frozen in an older time. That alone gives the property a creepy, ghostly feel, as the house truly is a remnant of something long gone. Add to that- Lights going on and off in the night, rolling movement throughout the darkened house, voices in the yard and even a shadowy figure in the glass walkway- Many stories about the place have haunted almost every child in Galion for the last 40 years or so I imagine, due to the fact that the town’s Middle School was directly across the street from the Cottage property. (The school was sadly torn down this summer) Every kid in town had to walk right past the spooky old place just to get into the front doors of the school. Many of us will never forget the mysterious things we have heard about or heard and seen for ourselves at the Brownella Cottage. Perhaps now that the school has been reconstructed across town, the Brownella Cottage stories may start to fade away… poor old house has no more kiddies to frighten…

I recently heard that Galion used to have underground tunnels and one of them runs to Brownella Cottage. Does anyone know if this is true? If so could it be someone using the tunnels to enter the cottage and “spook” people??

I live in Galion and have for almost my whole life. I have a family member who used to be and will be one of the head people in charge of affairs that go on here at Brownella. I have been in there countless times and have seen every inch and heard every spooky story there is to know. I can say truthfully that NO ONE has been murdered inside of this house. Bishop Brown died in his room (his bed now resides in another room) and Ella Brown WAS NOT MURDERED (this was his wife.) Have any questions?

I remember back in second grade our class took a tour of everything. I’ve heard all the stories having lived in Galion for 21 years. But, none before my tour and I still remember some freaky things going on. I believe it’s haunted. My suggestion, go there before you hear stories. That way you arent expecting things and misinterpret things as hauntings!

Hello, I was born and raised in Galion, If any of you remember the bluish gray colored house that was directly across the street 129 south union? It is now a parking lot for the church. I was born and raised in that house until we moved out, at that time I was then 14.
I can honestly say for sure I would sit on the front porch with my parents at dusk and we would see someone sitting in the front glass covered porch and would also see a shadow of a person mid height wearing at times a dark colored suit with light gray hair walking about. We also at our house had a dirt cellar that had an opening that was a tunnel from our house to the church to the left next door and straight under our front porch under Union street to the cottage. It had been covered up with sandstone and mortar before my parents obtained the place. I am now 46 years old and I do remember everything I saw there. I can honestly say there was activity inside the cottage.
The caretaker was in a separate residence at the far corner of the property at times we would see the caretaker come and go from his residence at the same time we would see bishop brown moving about so we knew it wasn’t the caretaker at that time. In fact one summer night the caretaker came out to the iron fence to look at something and my grandmother walked across the street to have a conversation with him, Being that he was not to much on talking he did say hi and introduced himself, although I do not remember his name I do remember what happened just shortly after he introduced himself to my grandmother. Just after that the curtains had moved upstairs in the front bedroom just above the study, my grandmother said to me did you see that? As I looked the caretaker turned and looked himself and just made the comment ” oh the bishop is just checking in for the night to read a book before falling to sleep” so the caretaker acted as if it was normal so he must have been aware also of activity.
At times we would see bishop brown several times a night stirring about then not see anything for days. We would also see the curtains move from side to side as if he was keeping an eye out on his property.
Is this weird? Just history from someone who did see this first hand from a distance of less than 100 feet.
