Bunny Man Bridge
During the 1800s, a man went off to hunt for food. Upon return to his home, however, he discovered the mutilated bodies of his wife and child. Immediately, he summoned the sheriff. Since the bodies were so horribly mutilated and there were no other suspects, the husband was sent to a mental institution. Maintaining his innocence, the man vowed revenge. After escaping from the institution, the man took up residence near a bridge. Since the only clothes he owned were those made from rabbits’ skin, he soon became known as the “Bunny Man.” As time passed, children started playing near and around the Bunny Man. When several children came up missing, the authorities were notified. When they reached the bridge, officials saw body parts of the children hanging from trees; they also saw the Bunny Man being run over by a train. Today it is said that one may see body parts hanging from the trees and will hear the Bunny Man laughing.

I’ve known many many people who have gone to the Bunny Man Bridge. One is my boyfriend. He says that there’s nothing there, but one of my friends says that when she was there, there was something there. She didn’t stick around to find out was going to happen. I have never been there, but I do plan to go. I believe it’s all real. Things like this do happen, and ghosts or spirits are real.

Check this out, it’s all mapped nice and neat. (sorry for the giant fat link) But prepare yourself for a well-lit midnight disappointment, as this area is developing rapidly. The road ended here only a few years ago, but there is a neighborhood forming around the bridge today.

If you’re still looking, I have a good link to the Bunnyman legend here:
THE BUNNYMAN UNMASKED!
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/branches/vr/bunny/bunny.htm
This site shows what the bridge USED to look like, which you can imagine at night:
http://www.weirdus.com/stories/VA01.asp
This site shows it now, cleaned up and the road cleared and paved through:
http://virginiaghosts.com/bunnyman.php
(it’s a reprint of bunnyman unmasked)
And apparently it’s painted a nice creamy color now too:
Rumor has it there’s a bunnyman bridge in Reston too.. and one out in Loudoun County.. so there’s always hope

If you go on top of the bridge, you can see the stone that has been eroded where the ropes were hanging off the bridge.

Yesterday 6/18/06 I went there with two of my friends around 1 AM. The whole area is creepy. Recently someone had died around the bridge area. Before you come to the bridge you should see a little shrine dedacated to a girl name Lauren. DO NOT TRUST THE LOCALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve been there many times and have never seen anything out of the ordinary. I did see the cross for Lauren, not sure who she is though. Probably one of many teens to die on Cliftons winding roads. BTW There is no Clifon library or asylum. That’s all made up to be part of the story.

Ok guys heres the deal. I lived my whole childhood walking distance away from the bridge. Me and my friends have been there many times before and even have gone on halloween. Now I’m not saying the spot isn’t haunted. I have personally heard things in tunnel that is below the bridge were the teenagers were hung outside. But me or any of my friends were ever hurt at the bridge. If traveling to the bridge though and want to get the full effect don’t visit during the day, all the accounts of anything supernatural have happened at night. Be aware also that at one end of the tunnel their are rocks so if you run scared make sure you don’t trip and get messed up and make the people of Fairfax County paranoid. A tip also will be to travel in groups, alot of spray painters visit the tunnel to leave their mark on the spot. So to avoid major conflict be in a group.

I have been to bunny mans bridge several times myself and have seen a few things myself. I have tried to find the asylum and the shack but I have been unsuccessful, so if there is anyone who has good directions to these places from manassas I would really appreciate it alot. I’ve been investigating the bunny mans bridge for awhile and I have found alot of intersting things but I have looked for the ” Old Clifton Library” with no success either, I would like to know if it really exists and where it is. All the dates and supposed facts that people have found are from this library and I would really like to find the truth of this bridge, if there is anyone with this information please email me at: ashortstuff18@aol.com Thank you very much

This story is just sick and twisted. Some-one tell me why some guy would want to slice and dice a bunch of kids when kids had nothing to do with the story….it is said that Bunny Man found his wife and child slashed and the police didn’t believe him so they threw him in a Insane Asylum…..why would he get revenge on kids…why not the police…makes more sence….in my opinion this story is false….

My experience with this bridge was more of a social comedy then a horror. 4 years ago my buddy Fidel and I hesitantly wondered into the woods with some scared GMU Frat children (7+ guys & 3 girls who arrived at the same time by chance). After forming into one large drunken mob we marched into the wood in search of the Evil Dead cabin and the sacred Boomstick. Not but 50 paces from the road and we began to be harassed by THE SHAKING TREE LIMBS OF DEATH!!!! Which after the initial urine factor, the real adults realized were just some neighborhood kids who shook so many branches in so many places as to create an illusion of a ghost (a VERY wind like ghost). Long story short, the GMU guys ran off leaving the 3 women alone walking with Fidel and myself (the nice). After a five minute hike I decided I’d had enough of the scary/annoying wind, and decided to charge one of the “trees.” I was expecting to pull the mask off the tree and find it to be Old Man – INSERT NAME HERE, but ended up tripping smack on my face. In defeat I walked back to the car never to see the cabin (which I know is back there), but I did see a good portion of a fraternity house get shamed/outed by tree limbs.
Well its Devil’s Night 06′ and I will be making my second trip back to The Ole’ Bunnyman Bridge. This time I know that they (local hicks/vampires) run along side the forest path making use of the train tracks to run silently through the night only to pop out in front of you. But I don’t care, both the people, location, and legend bring oput some weird creep factor that just can’t be found at a park or in a movie. If you see me there tonight feel free to stand behind me, cause I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.

Well I wish I could say I wasn’t afraid of other things as I am of ghosts. For instance the nice Fairfax County cop who was on top of us within 1 minute of arriving to the bridge. To his credit, he did point out these small “No Trespassing” signs (which is the last thing you look at when you come upon the infernal bridge) and forced us to leave. The entire time his face seemed to have a look of shame as though he knew how rediculous forcing people from the bridge was, and how much disappointment he was bringing to others… nay, himself. Nice guy though.
If you want to take a slight risk, avoid driving there altogether and park on another road intersecting the railroad tracks. On Google Earth there appears to be quite a few roads that intersect and 2 are within a 10 minute railroad track hike. In all I think the only thing you will find at night out there will at least be a cop, and for those stupid enough to have something illegal on them… probrably a lot more.
Till next year,
-Chris

The story Amber told is a story written by Timothy C. and is completely FAKE! I read it last night and there is no records of an Old Clifton Library anywhere.
