Some of them are in other states, but most of them are in Virginia Beach, or Old Princess Anne County. The creater of that web-site doesn’t mention the hauntings, but I have been to all of them, photographed every headstone, and gotten ghosts in half of the pictures. Go at night, maybe you’ll get all of the **** knocked out of you, dipstick!

I’ve only been to the hotel in va Beach once, just to look. I has it gives me the creeps (like watching the movie The Shining). I have been (twice) to the Chamberlen hotel @ Fort Monroe in Hampton. The first time at night with my husband just to look around the “cool old hotel”. We went to the top floor and when to elevator door open, well it just felt wrong to get out the elevator. I went back to the desserted top floor during the day with some friends. I didn’t see anything, I can’t explain it, I felt like there was somthing there just out of my sight. I felt scared for no reason and this is before I knew the ghost stories. I can bet you money if you could get up there at night, you won’t last long.

I stayed at the amaller Cavalier across the street from the haunted one. We stayed there for a national dance competition that summer, and my mom called her father to tell him where we were (he spent a lot of time in VA Beach), and he knew right off the bat that the one across the street was haunted. He told us about the cat and the guy who committed suicide, but didn’t know much else.

My mother and I then asked one of the people who worked at our hotel what happens there. The cat is actually someone’s spirit in disguise, I believe the guy who committed suicide because the cat started to show up the day after the guy killed himself, and one of the people who worked their was the irst to notice and believe it.

We also talked to a woman who worked at the haunted Cavalier. She would set all of the tables in one of the dining rooms. She would leave the room, come back, and all of the dishes and glasses would be turned upsidedown. She didn’t find it as much scary as she did “annoying.”

I have lived in virginia beach my whole life but never spent the night there. i was there for a few hours for my friends birthday and she said the door kept unlocking by itself during the party. After everyone left and they were falling asleep they heard whispering. We also talked to people that worked there and some people would tell us it was haunted but others said they didnt know. The lady at the front desk said a couple nights ago there was a lady who opened the window, said hello and shut it…about 1 in the morning. The scary thing is there isn’t anything to stand on outside the window. She also said the water turns on and off by itself and it happend in the bath room next to the front desk.

Cav hotel is one hell of a place. I believe its haunted coz Ive checked it out and i cn feel that odd hair-raising vibrations around me. But what the heck! a haunt is a haunt. each one has his own experience and degree of haunting may vary but bottomline is that everyone has the right to be HAUNTED. Just enjoy the ride.

Hi- I have stayed at the Cavaier on the Beach across the street from the old Cavalier but have investigated it. It is not just cool place to look for ghosts, it really is very pretty. While walking around at night I did hear someone playing piano but no one was in the music room. It does seem to have a lot of history and good energy around it. It is worth checking it out.

hey guys im George and ive been investigating the cavilier for a while!! I Have lived in Virginia Beach my whole life, and I have stayed at the Cavalier for my sisters birthday. I would say I was about 10 years old, but I did not have any experiences while I was there. But there are books on it being haunted, and it looks very haunted, eventhough I have not had any experiences.

I also live here in Va. Beach. Me and a friend went and met up about 10:30 one night to go check out the Cavalier. We snuck inside the elevator and took it up to the 6th floor. We checked it out, East Wind, and did not see anything, and as we headed toward the elevator, we noticed a man we saw at the front entrace to the place, security. We said hello, jumped to the 4th, 3rd and 2nd where we got out of the elevator, and decided to hurry up and take the service stairs down further as much as they would allow us to go. We got past the kichen, down into the boiler room. That place was creepy. We entered into a dark hallway, but did not come totally prepaired, so decided not to venture there any further. We decided, while down there to look around the other direction. Got past the linen cage, and notice a large room with old furniture and beds. Past that, we saw another old room, dark, and a hallway past that. We got creeped out and decided to get outside to see if we could see anything. Well, no go. But, I did just balls out walk up to the man who was security and started to ask questions, and told him what we were doing. I told him how far we had made it. At that point, we did find out that there are alot of tunnels aunder the hotel, and we were well on our way when we saw the hallway past the old furniture. We have promised to go back in the winter to really dig deeper in this place. It was fun and exciting. We cant wait to go again!

Wow, a lot of these stories sound very fun and exciting! Usually, when I go to Va. Beach, I stay with my aunt off of Shore Dr. but I’ve only stayed in one hotel other than my aunt’s house. Next time, I’ll try and go to the Cavalier because I’ve never had a real experience…just some things happened to me in my dad’s townhouse. For example, every once in awhile I will hear footseps going up and down the stairs. Also, this one time, the front door was closed and me and my dad were watching a movie and the way the t.v is turned when can see the reflection from the front room and the hall. Well, when the screen was black for a couple seconds I saw something run across the screen real quick. It was the reflection from the front room. I paused for a few seconds and looked at my dad beside me and asked “Did you see that?” and he says “yes i did”. i was a little freaked out by this moment lol. I have a bunch of stories to tell though…its really exciting but kind of freaky to experience something like that. But I love the phenomena of ghosts, spirits, and whatnot.

I have lived here for around 15 years now. I have been to the cavelier a few times for Christmas functions. They use to hold the Holly Ball there. The place is great historically, and yes does remind you of “The Shining”. Once during a Christmas party during their renovations, the small ladies room was rather full, so they allowed us to use one of the just renovated rooms on an upper floor (forgot which one) When we (my husband and I) got off the elevator you could just feel something. Could hear/feel old music playing. We looked around for speakers, but couldn’t find anything that was working. We had a few drinks (liquor for him and ice tea for me) so we were not swaded. When we got into the room the bathroom door (which is like a pocket door) was wide open, it closed fine while I was in there and opened fine coming out, but wouldn’t close again until my husband was inside! That swaded us!! no elevator needed I think we flew back to the ballroom!

I have stayed at the Cavalier Hotel but I didn’t have any experiences like the tales say. I do, however, believe it is haunted. I got a “feeling” even tho I didn’t have any experiences. Also, Adolf Coors did committ suicide at this hotel, but it was not in the 1940’s, it was June 5, 1929 and he did jump out (or fell out) of a window.

I have lived 10 minutes from the Cavlier Hotel my whole 22 years of life. I have never had any weird or creepy experiences myself, however, I have a friend whose grandmother manages the building. She has lots to tell, and I will tell her about the website so she can relate all her experiences!

I live in Virginia Beach and have heard stories about the Cavalier Hotel but have never actualy been there. If anyone wants to investigate this I would be very willing to. The problem is that I don’t have the first clue as to how.

A couple of weeks ago I was in Virginia Beach doing some paranormal work. A co-worker who was giving me a ride back to my hotel told me about the Cavalier and some of the ghost stories associated with it. She told me that I had to check it out for myself. We would only be about 10 mins out of the way and although it was closed we could walk around and look at it. We got there and the place was like the Overlook from the Shining (a very common association with the Cavalier). Walking around, looking in the windows was like stepping right into teh 20s or 30s, you could almost feels the spirits. Well, we began walking accross the circular drive towards her car and she stopped me and told me that I had to see in the front door windows. Just as we got there and she started to tell me where the halls all led we heard a gigantic crash. Turning around we could see that a huge piece of what we later discovered to be a huge piece of the buildings granite ledge from the roof, smashed down right about where we would have been if we hadnt stopped. I exclaimed “wow, cool” (LOL) and we started investigating a bit. It appeared that nowhere in the front was there any facet missing but only on one of the angled sides. The next morning we both went indepently to take photos and confirm that observation. I am very excited at the idea of going back once they are open and doing a full investigation there. After all The large piece of granite would have had to travel roughly 55feet or more laterally to be able to land where it did on that windless night! I use a piece of that ledge as a paperweight on my desk back in Chicago, just to remind me that if something is meant to get you, it will!

I went to HS in Va Bch in the late 70s. We had proms & stuff at the Cavalier & there were never any stories of hauntings or weird experiences. It is just a gorgeous historic hotel. In the 90s I stayed there overnight, and nothing happened.

I’m not a skeptic–I would love to have any paranormal experience–but I just don’t think it’s that easy to have something occur. I lived close to the Thoroughgood House (supposedly also haunted) & even trick-or-treated there for years, and there was never anything going on in my presence or that anyone I knew ever experienced. I also worked at the Chamberlin Hotel in Hampton, and nothing happened … except monstrously huge cockroaches right before customers’ eyes in the dining room!

I think a lot of these stories are just good stories that take on a life of their own. How many of you stayed at the Cavalier just to see a ghost? See, it’s good salesmanship to have a haunted reputation! Post some photos of weird stuff & I’ll start to believe. But until then, just enjoy the architecture & history. Not all old things are scary!

I have not stayed there, nor do I have any experiences to discuss. However, I recently learned about the Cavalier while I was on vacation a couple weeks ago. When I was told it was haunted, I did research and stumbled across this page. I would just like to thank all of you that have shared your experiences. Some of them sound really creepy! My friend and I visited the Cavalier Hotel tonight just to check it out. We both live here in VA Beach and have been fascinated by the “spookiness” of the Hotel. We entered the old hotel in to the lobby and up to the front desk. We were met by the manager and told him we were there just to check it out to possible rent a room in the near future. He told us we were welcome to look around. I couldn’t resist but to get my camera. Before I got the camera, we toured the check-in desk level and wandered our way around. There was a door to the right (ballroom) just past the library )I think it may have been the Pocahontas Room. The door was closed as we passed it. We walked straight until we came to a pool table. It was there we both started to feel something creepy. We then walked toward the pool and at the same time we both decided to turn around. There was an unwelcome feeling that we both felt. Once I went and got my camera and came back in to the hotel, the door to the Pocahontas Room (that was closed) was open. Since this is off-season, the hotel was scarecely occupied. I then took a picture in to the Pocahontas Room. I immediately noticed some “orbs” in the picture. One in particular that was noticable. We took about 3 pictures when all of a sudden my camera died. As I was walking in to the hotel, I put brand new batteries in my camera. After only 3 pictures, my camera died. This was just as I was about to take a picture of the piano and the large picture above it. I can’t wait to be able to reserve a room and see more!!! I was creeped out but in a curious way.

We first noticed a cat or a fox dart almost out of no were across the lot and up a grass hill, we entered and (had to use the bathrooms!) I got a spook from one of the soap dispensers being so loud! Though there was nothing unusual about the bathroom, or the entire bottom floor, it was all very elegant and quiet, we made our way to the stairwell, it was Stifling hot! We made our way up to each floor and upon reaching the sixth we walked down one of the wings and my mate stopped and asked if we’d heard a sound, he claimed it sounded like a wet packing noise.
We decided to leave after that and walked to our car through the hotels small grove of trees we had stopped and were talking a bit and being silly and behind us heard a sound like someone jumping out of a tree, or a heavy footstep in the grass. I am of course not convinced, but a little freaked out after I came home and found this site with stories of a cat and a man that had committed suicide!

The cav hotel has quite the history behind. Many famous people have stayed in the Cav throughout her glory days. People such as Al Capone, Adolf Hitler, an yes the man who started a brewery. The hotel has very many ghostly storys behind it. Such storys like the curse of room 666 where the brewery man jumped an took his own life. Other storys about hearing someone drowning in the pool in the early hours of the morning. There is a ton of history in this hotel. there are alot of secrets rooms an halls in the cav. there are the abandonded elevator shafts in the cav where a child suposedly road his bike down an fell to his death. an yes these elevators are no longer used but still exist. then there is the narrow stair case on the 7th floor that leads to a heavly chained off door. Storys about a secret room where the man who started the cav lived in. His ghost has been seen walking up the narrow stair case late at night. The hotel is fun to explore. if you get the chance you should stay there one night. an if you got the balls stay in room 666.

Though many of these stories may seem false or exaggerated to some people they are not for I myself am a paranormal investigator and have been staying the the newer Cavalier across the street for about two weeks now doing interviews of both new and old cavalier employees and interrogation/investigation of the Haunted Cavalier hotel. I do not know all of the stories but I believe that the Coors man committed suicide in the 1920’s during the Great Depression and the cat is a different soul that haunted Coors the night of his death. This is just a guess but I think I may have a good lead on the amazing mysteries of this charming, enchanted hotel. It’s a great get-away very cute and mysterious, I think they offer tours now also. Be cautious though: While I was there I saw the haunted piano, a cat with red eyes, the elevator broke down, the stairwell was ghastly and hot, and there is a strange meat-slapping sound as well as some whispers and color changing towels.

I am writing this from the front desk of the Original (Haunted) Cavalier. I just wanted to expose you as a liar; there is no one that has inerviewed employees of either building recently.

That said, I have a new story that has been confirmed by different guest on different nights. . .a woman walking through a door with a dog following her across the lobby. Of course the piano incident has happened a couple times. I have also heard about a waiter walking through a wall in the Pocahontas room. There is a window in a room behind the front desk (the room is spooky itself) that looks onto the pool so I will have to keep my eyes peeled for the drowning kid.

Just tonight some people came in asking about some things, they took some pics in the music room and I witnessed the orbs in several places in the pic. It could have been light reflections, but didn’t seem entirely reasonable for that to be the explanation.

Will let you all know if any other activity is observed by me.

Every year my family and I go to VA. Beach, we live in New Jersey so VA. Beach is a great get away. On our last day which was yesterday the 20th my mother,sister,brother and I went to the Cavalier Hotel just to see how much the rooms go for…it’s not expensive at all. A nice very helpful African-American lady gave us a tour of the hotel, well I must say beautiful hotel. This is hotel is so different from anything we saw. Everything from the atmosphere,the rooms, scenery made it so amazing. Now i know this may not be so thrilling but as all of us went on the elevator to go back to the first floor the elevator doors kept opening and closing…at least three times. We were all freaked out! We plan on staying there next week for a week…we are so excited.

I’m in the navy stationed down here in virginia beach and when i got here people on base told me the story of the “haunted hotel near the beach.” Being curious me and some friends stayed there for an entire weekend. Unfortunately nothing paranormal happend to us while we were there. We even brought along cameras and explored during the night and not one thing. Maybe it was just an off night or two for the ghosts.

I’ve stayed at the Oceanfront Cavalier twice now. Sadly both times were off season so I am yet to stay in the haunted building. I snuck in there today to have a look around, it’s really beautiful. Hopefully next summer I’ll stay over there. The pool area is really intimidating! I’m not even sure why, I’d like to find somewhere that catalouges all the recorded deaths/accidents there.

My husband and I visited Yorktown, VA. When I was a young child and teen, I saw a lady in white below my bedroom window. My aunt was the only one who believed me because there had been 2 car wrecks near our road by drivers who say a woman in white dart accross the road. In Yorktown it was about 9PM and my husband wanted to drive thru the battle grounds in our car. It was ok until we turned on this one road and I suddenly felt like something had come over me and I could not breath. He quickly stop the car and said I had a glow. He turned the car around and we left the area and I was fine. The next night we drove back into the battle grounds just a short distance and I felt very strange as if something had me by the throat. I ask him to please get us out of there fast. Once we were out of the grounds I was again find. I still love to visit Yorktown but not the battle fields at night.

Me n my friends were new to the area. We are in the navy n got stationed on NOB. We heard about hotel cavelier through a friend n on night decided to go check it out. There was about six of us and we went to the hotel around 1-2 am. we looked around the front n walked the perimeter of the hotel since it was closed. After walking all around it we got back to the front we realized that alot of things had changed. Sum window blinds that we realized were closed on the 6th floor when we first arrived there were then open n we seen a shadow if sumthin in one of the windows on the six floor. Now im not saying i blieve in this haunted ghost stuff but i will leave everyone to come to there own conclusion.

i know the family that owns this hotel.. the story about the man who threw himself out the window, well from what i am told by the family it would be to murder more than suicide due to the fact he didn’t open the window before you jumped out of it, he went right through the glass. and they say that nothin really happens around that room.. the only thing that does happen is the hotel doors do open a bit on their own but that is about it…

i know the family that owns this hotel.. the story about the man who threw himself out of the window would appear to be more murder than suicide due to the fact that he threw himself out while the window was still closed.. like through the glass and everything.. they don’t really hear to much from that room either.. the only that really does happen is the elevator doors do open alot on their own but that is about it.

The Cavalier is not as old as they have listed on this site. However the Coors’ story is true and the meat slapping concrete sound is common. There is some mystery as to whether he committed suicide because of the beginning of Prohibition or if it was an accident. The windows in this building are large and you could easily fall out before they were blocked from opening all of the way like they are now.

WEll my queston is isnt there any stories about Lee County, Virginia? It’s one of the most spooky places I have ever seen, and I know there are strange things that happen in this town. I have lived here my whole life and have experienced many paranormal things. In Big Stone which is may be a 30 minute drive from here there was a house just recently tore down. The queston is why? The house was beautiful and from the outside it looked like a good family house. In the past years a few families have lived there and moved out of that house saying that doors would open and close, things would fly out of cabinets, and many other strange things happened. May be the house had a electrical problem so there for they tore it down or may be all the families that lived there in the past few years let there story be known to show there are real evil in that house!

My mother, friend, and myself snuck into the old Cav hotel to check it out a bit. There was definitely some very strong energies there; especially in the piano room, pool room, and the upper floors. Another good place is the inside entrance to the bar. I got a couple of small orbs in pics, and on the sixth floor I got one photo that was inexplicably dark. All the other pictures were normal in terms of flash. I plan to have my wedding on the grounds next fall, and will probably stay in the old hotel if we can.

Hotel was actually bullt in 1927. Closed in 80’s and most stuff auctioned off. I ‘m sure that made some ghosts real mad.

Oooo I Love the Cavalier!!! I’m getting married there next February!!! Oh its so Beautiful and I do think it has a lot of history in it, if not some spooks! Last night my family and I went there to go talk to the wedding coordinator and he took us over there. Awww gorgeous. Since its off-season its completely dead but its better that way. In a weird way I want something spooky to happen while my wedding is taking place. It would be so memorable. My fiance and I are getting married at Old Donation Episcopal church, Va beach, which is the one of the oldest churches in the area. It dates back to 1692; a very old building. So keeping the older feeling i wanted a historic building to have the reception…its perfect. Its like you walk into the 1920’s. When you walk in to the building
the cold air hits you and this distinct smell lingers in the air. Totally awesome. Can’t wait!

i have lived in Virginia Beach for 20 years and i am very familiar with the hotel and i have heard that it was haunted. i have never stayed in the hotel, but me and a couple of my friends have seen the lights flickering from a long ways. and even up close. if you ever visit VA beach go to 70th street about 12 or so and u can see the lights flicker on and of. and i know that no one is doing it on purpose cause u would have to shut power to the whole building to do that.

When I visited the hotel, the 7th floor was closed because it was haunted. Years ago a women killed herself along with other people. Also during WWI they drained the pool to help dieing solders. It is very creapy to go into the basement at night it is abandoned, dark, and full of old furniture.

I’ve also lived in Virginia Beach and I’ve stayed in the Cav a couple of times. I was outside the room for a moment and when I came back in the items I placed on the bed were on the shelf on the other side of the room. Friends have also told me weird thing about the Cav.

I applied at the newer Cavalier Hotel as a cleaning maid and I got hired. But the good news is, instead of working at the newer one, they sent me to the old one to stay and work at. Tomorrow will be my third day and I’ve got to remember to bring my camera and video camera. The old building is beautiful and there are a lot of closed off doors that make me curious. I haven’t gotten to explore the whole building yet but it’s a goal that I will make. I haven’t experienced anything scary yet, but hopefully soon. I believe in ghosts and would love to have an encounter with one. Will update when I have more to report!

I was cleaning the mens bathroom in the lobby today,and one of the urinals flushed by itself, and I wasn’t even near it, but someone else was with me and heard it too. I also heard something fall on the floor, but there is nothing in there that could become attached from anything and fall, so I’m not sure what it was.

I went to the cavalier once and tay said it all. It scares you to death! I am staying there one night this summer and I am so excited but scared!

Hey, I used to work at the hotel a few years ago, and I must say….some of the things I have read in here are very true. Like the underground pathways, broken down elevators, ghosts, etc. I remember one night when I was working in the Pochahontas room, and I swear it felt like someone was with me, just watching what I was doing. I also remember hearing the piano playing at night when nobody was anywhere near it, plus it would be completely dark in the room. I plan on going back one day and staying in the old hotel on the hill, and see if anything else may happen. I think it would be awesome.

I use to live in Brockton, MA I was 24-25 years old, in a haunted house lol! I swear. It was on Glenwood St. A woman said “Hi” right in my ear, while I was walking in the kitchen, and I flew in the other room where my husband and the kids were, with my eyes bugged out of my head. My husband said, “What’s the matter” I said, “Nothing” I didn’t want to scare the kids. They were all just starring at me. I Walked into the kitchen another time, all cabinets opened, one by one, by themselves, left that room. I shut the bathroom light off, walked a few feet away, turned around to go back into the bathroom, forgetting something, the light was now on. And as I was painting the woodwork, with the kids playing in the other room, hubby was at the laundrymat, some woman’s voice said…”Helloooo” behind me, I ran into the room took the kids, waited in the hallway for him to get back. The living room door hardly ever opened, so we used front door, except one day, me and my husband tried using the key and slamming all our weight into the door over and over, finally it opened. “Whew!” We said, hell with this door, we’ll use the front. Well, one day he and I and the kids were sitting on the floor {I think playing a board game} near the that door, that we kept locked never using it. It opened by itself about 2 feet, my 7 yr. old son said, “Did you see that?” We couldn’t even move we just starred at it. I said to my husband, “You shut it” And a lot of other weird things too, we moved out.

One time in Dighton, MA, me and my cousin went to a Haunted Graveyard, we had a fascination with cemeteries. Soon as we got there I turned around, he was gone. An old man, slowly walking, slight limp was looking at me, then put his head down, smiling. He was about 15 feet away from me to my right, walking past me. Knowing this one was haunted, I wanted my cousin near me, I yelled for my cousin quick a couple times, no answer. And this was a small cemetery too. I yelled for his dog, Montana! I turned my head back quick to see if the old man was still there, gone! The dog came running to me. There was a fence behind me the man couldn’t have climbed it and I would’ve heard it, he wouldn’t have had time to anyway and the front was the only way out. I said where’s Kenny? lol! (to the dog) I taught him that, Ken said, “Why are you teaching him that?” I told Ken, that might come in handy one day. Damned if it didn’t. That dog ran, stopped, looked at me, ran, stopped, waited for me to catch up, and took me right to Kenny. Who was behind some bushes, looking at a couple of stones, that’s all that was there. I looked at one stone it was the father and brother of my mom’s ex-boyfriend, they were from Dighton. I said to Ken, “You didn’t hear me screaming for you?” He said, No. I called for your dog, he found me. Ken laughed. I said, I’m outta here! He said, No. I said it’s my car I’m leaving, he came with me. I said, “Did you see that old man?” He said, “What old man?” I told him. Heck with that I was afraid that if I turned one more time that man was going to be up in my face if that dog didn’t find me to run with.

I drive by the Cavalier Hotel on my way up to the North End to surf alot. And every time I drove by the hotel, I always looked towards it and feel this uneasy vibe. Before I found this site, I felt the place looked haunted. It’s gorgeous on the outside. But I haven’t been inside to have a look around. My family stayed there in August. Like everyone else, I felt like there was someone else in the rooms, especially if you were alone. If you go, check out the dark staircase that is off the large room where the piano is. It is blocked off, but everytime you go past it, it feels like someone is standing there. I dare anyone to go up those stairs.

Hi i i live in pennslyvannia and there is no haunted places around me that i know but when i was little my parents went out to see a horror movie and i was asleep and new nothing about them going. I remeber seeing a little girl in a white dress sitting on the edge of my bed and asking me odd questions …. which i can remeber. Something she did just made me scream (i dont remeber what exacly) I woke my mom up from screaming so load (they where back from the movies now)and it freaked her out because she saw a movie with a little girl. when i went back to sleep i saw her again and she asked me why i did that. i answerd “i dont know i was scared” she said not to be scared and walked through my door and went away. I’m 12 now and it still gives me chills.

Me,and my friend Kylie went there today,BUT it was during the day. We saw it on our way to the navy base,and her grandma said something about the Cavalier being on America’s Most Haunted. So,we went back,and Kylie felt weird about the place. But eventually I convinced her to walk up the fornt steps. As we were leaving,we saw a..’cleaning’ woman,and asked her what happened at this place, and her reply was..’what?! I dont know.’..well,shes a LIAR! Anyway,we got back in the car,and Kylie’s grandma said she saw someone in the window on the fourth floor. We truned around,and on the third floor corner window,the light was on..the only light on in the whole building except for the seventh floor. the seventh also had lights on. When we were leaving,I turned around,only to see that the light on the third floor had been ‘turned’ off. Pretty creepy,eh? Also,the cleaning woman said that it was open only on Wednesday,so we’re gonna get her grandma to take us back..and im taking my camera!

DUDES! I went back there yesterday with Kylie,and I caught an ‘orb’ in my picture! NO LIE! My Daughter and her Groom stayed at the hotel for their wedding night 2 years ago. Before we left them for the evening we took several photos of the Bride and her Groom and her Maid of Honor and the Best Man. In one of the photos taken in the Ballroom there is an “orb” over the head of the Maid of Honor as she posed with her boyfriend, the Best Man, beside the piano. In a picture taken just seconds before there is no “Orb”. I too have heard some of the stories about the Hotel. I felt something the very first time I set foot on the front steps. But seeing is really believing and an “Orb” with no other explanation is darn good proof. You all are entitled to your opinions but regardless of what you naysayers feel, the place is haunted.

I was born and raised in virginia beach and have heard of all of these stories however for who ever posted that comment um yeah no there are no bleeding walls in the hotel. However there is one thing missing from this and I dont remember the whole story but I do know that in the old original building the 13th floor is completely closed down I dont remember the story why I just remember that it was a ghost story not like a busted pipe or something and Now its used only as storage only during daylight.

I live on 5th street in virginia beach and work on 28th. I love all this ghost stuff and my friends and i go “ghost hunting” all the time. Ive been to the Cavalier many times, and always have new experiences, I have heard and seen the piano playing on its own, I have taken pictures in the pool area and have had many orbs show up. Also on the sixth floor. The bell tower is closed to the public but when your a local and snoop around places you can find your way up, haha, it gets extremely windy up there even though theres no wind anywhere else, (the flags on the beach aren’t moving, ect.) Im really not sure about the Black man on the stairs but i can say I’ve heard key’s rattling, maybe i didn’t stay around long enough to actually see him.I’ve seen other things inside the elevators, that i’d rather keep to myself, because honestly if i wasnt there, i would believe it. I’ve also during the off season seen lights and people standing at windows. And IM NOT SAYING “HEY GO BREAK IN”, but theres a plae on the side of the building with a blue awning over it and under that near the bushes is a tunnel that leads to the kitchen, im pretty sure theres something covering the inside of it now though.

I was a desk clerk the Summer of 1976. First year Cavalier on Hill opened after long closing ($). Worked 3pm to 11pm. In this year we had the gas shortage and had few guests staying (most stayed at new hotel on beach). One of the original bellmen Joe Walton (sweetest man on earth! RIP friend) worked with me. Only odd thing was elevator would go up and down (this is common). Mr. Walton would say “Hello,Mr. Dixon”! He was an owner that died. Never was scared and the hotel is a Grand Lady! The tunnels are underground. Used to be a butcher shop, beauty shop, clothes etc.Would have loved to see the hotel in its glory days! Don’t believe it’s haunted!

I don’t think TAPS has. I haven’t heard of any official “ghost investigations” on site. But maybe we could locate a website and ask TAPS to look into it…might be worth a try at least. I have a picture of a “globe”I that appeared above the piano in some wedding day photos a couple years back.We did not see it when the picture was snapped.

Accually i live like 5 minutes away from it. It is such a beautiful place although with how long its been there I can believe it would have some interesting stories but I think the Cavalier is more of Virginia Beach’s past time since its been there since the early 1900’s. Its a shame things arn’t as beautiful as they used to be like the cavalier. Im glad its still standing.

Well i was on floor 6 like Coors was. And i hear living screaming and moaning and a bit of flesh hitting the ground. The elevator opened muliple times but didn’t look the same. It was a silver, then a rust, then silver again. The towels do indeed show changes in color and seem to come and go. i was sick one of the days i was there,and i heard someone say ‘feeling any better?’ right after the maids had cleaned, and after i heard the voice neighbors came running in. They said i have medical problems with voices, but they would be just as scared.
This is no lie people. If your not in the mood for being scared, don’t step one foot in the parking lot.
You’ll regret it.

I frequently visit the Cavalier Hotel at night and play the piano in the ballroom. I play ragtime music, classical and blues hoping to stir up any spirits that might be lingering around. I feel as if I’m being watched when I play there, but I’ve had no personal experience. I also visited the bell tower in the hotel. The staircase is very dark and creepy and its cold up there. I haven’t seen the bell-hop yet, but my eyes and ears are open.

The first day I visited the Cavalier Hotel and played the piano, an old gentlemen in his 80’s shuffled up to me and told me his friend Smokey used to play piano there in the 1940’s. He took a picture of me while I was playing, smiled then shuffled away. I wonder if any orbs will appear in his photo. BTW, the keys of D major, D sharp and F do not work. I keep telling the front desk clerks they need to be fixed, but I don’t think they care. Hahahah

There is also an old house on Cedarville rd( near pungo?) that is haunted. It was built over a civil war burial site and the graves were disturbed in the process. I’m the one that posted having the photo with the orb above the piano (taken in 2006)just after my daughter’s wedding. Her bride’s maid and best man are in the picture with an orb clearly poised above their heads. At the time we were unaware of any association of spirits and the piano. I worked at The Cavalier last year. I actually applied there because of the supposed hauntedness. I’m a big fan of ghosts and their stories, but this place is a disappointment. The only thing that happened…when you go downstairs to the mens restroom, you have to walk around a corner before you get to the stalls. Well, the stalls are motion censored (and very hard at that to flush) I didn’t even step foot AROUND the corner and one of them went off. There was no one in there. That scared me, but it in all reality it was lame. I plan on going back to get to the top (was too scared I’d get fired for goofing and not doing my job). Have seen the tunnel under the awning (cleaned around there and discovered it) Would love to go in there with someone who isn’t scared!!

No Lie! My wife and I live in VB and have walked around the old Cavalier many times and have some strange pictures we have take with out digital camera and phones. First off this place is totally haunted…. I was pushed onto the balcony overlooking the indoor pool (it was the balcony that collapsed and killed several people many many years ago) and nobody was behind me. We have pictures of Orbs all around the hotel, on the 6th floor, off season when noboby was in there we went walking around and a room door was opened, we went in and started to snap pictures. We caught a picture or a young boy in the bathroom when all of the lights were off. We walked to the window across the room and the bathroom sink faucet turned on by itself. In the sitting room over looking the beach side of the hotel I have seen a man sitting in the wicker chairs just siting there and looking out to the ocean. Off of the lobby where they have old pictures and historical document my wife and I both felt a cat brush up against our legs only later to find out that a little girl drowned in the pool with her cat decades ago. I can go on and on about what we have seen and felt but I think you guys get the point…. it is haunted without a doubt!

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights on our honeymoon. We stayed in room 667 on the 6th floor. We hadn’t heard much about it being haunted or we would have paid more attention! Sadly, we didn’t hear or see anything suspicious during those two days. I almost feel left out. The price to stay there is relatively cheap so maybe we’ll go back someday.

Has anybody ever been to the Ferry Plantation house in the Pembroke area, There is something there late at night. Very scary like someone is following you as you walk the street around the neighborhood.

Anyone interested in going to any of the cemetery’s as a group to photograph orbs, etc.. I live in Chesterfield, VA. We could get together on this and pick a date. This is the month to be frightened.

well the truth is im a ghost hunter in training because i first saw a ghost one knight and it got me intrested.

The Cavalier hotel is now closed for the season.. sigh* I did get to play the piano on the last day before it closed, though.. during a jewish wedding that was going on down the hall..that was nice. Now, the hotel gets to sleep. Sleep well. I will see you next year! I’ll be back with some new songs, too! Several older folks have taken pictures of me at the piano by now. I wonder if anymore orbs have appeared…hmmm – probably in the wedding photos, I’m sure. Take care and stay safe!

My friend and I both worked the front desk at the Cav on the Hill for over 3 years. Although the place is certainly creepy, both of us spent many nights (we worked the 11pm to 7am shift) in the spring, summer and fall (closed in winter)exploring every inch of the place, and we noticed nothing of any significance including guests calling about a cat or even reporting anything strange. Towels changing color ?…LOL..We used to use different color towels on different days…LMAO and all elevators move when someone on a floor pushes a button..LOL. Also when you are in a hotel like this one you can hear toilets flushing from all over. Never had anyone report SEEING a toilet flush of it’s own accord. So be careful what you read and how it’s printed

Jason do you have any pictures of anything unusal, orbs, etc.? When will the hotel re-open?

Me and my Fiance stayed here and found nothing unusual. it was a very nice hotel with great service in a good location. i recommend it to anyone that is visiting VA Beach. i refering to the original one of course which is just behind the new one located on the beach.

My dad use to work in the Cavalier during the off season as a night guard and he told me the stories of these ghosts. My dad’s a big guy and doesn’t get scared that easy, but he admits to being ready to quit for how scared he’d get. He says there are ghosts and you will be scared or on edge at least once

I vacationed at the Cavalier every year for 15 years. It 100 % is haunted. I have some pretty brutal stories.
Also, there is a story of a married couple that committed suicide from the bell tower on the night of their honey moon.
At night, there is a silhouette of what resembles a couple standing on the bell tower.

We played Ouija board and saw some pretty fucked up ****.
If you scream in the Cavalier , suspiciously no staff can hear you.

I have plenty of stories, if this board is still alive.

As far as I know this thread is alive and well…some agree it’s haunted others don’t. Guess it’s a matter of what you are sensitive to. I have an orb picture and I “felt” things. I would like to look into it further. Tell us some stories if they are actuall accounts that are not just to poke fun at a very real paranormal possibility. I am all ears!

I first learned a handful of stories when I was roughly 16 years old while vacationing. Myself and a bunch of friends after drinking a bit, decided to investegate on an annual basis, as we met up each year at the same time during the summer when we went on vacation with our parents who were in a Pharmacy Convention.
A story that was told to me by a guy I met named brad, that I had never heard previously, was there was a couple who got married and spent their honey moon at the Caviler, They supposedly had gone up to the bell tower on the roof and had commited suicide together by jumping off the building.
If you stand at the pool at the new cavalier during the summer, there is a strange silhouette that resembles a couple with arms open ready to jump.
Coincidence or not, It’s a good shiver to look at.
Another story that had been told to me was about a greeter that was dying and before he died he told the staff that he would come back during his shift as a black cat to watch over his beloved hotel. After he died, a black cat appeared every day for the entire season, only for his hours shifts, then disappear.
I haven’t vacationed there in 3 years or so, but last time I was there the 6th floor was ALWAYS closed off. Giving a very strange aura in the presence.
A hotel employee who shared the same love of the history of the place let us investegate the 6th floor.
A very strange experience that I would love to go further into.

okay the cavalier hotel is not haunted. i have seen other haunted places in virginia but not at the cavalier hotel.

As an ex-desk clerk I can say the hotel is NOT haunted. Only thing you might hear is locals who know ways (believe me they are there) to get in the hotel. Kids! Not ghosts!

Oh please forgive us, as Jessica declares this place is not Haunted because she hasn’t witnessed anything. Everyone knows that she is the Haunted House Moderator.

Patty, why are you getting mad that they don’t believe in ghosts? I believe in ghosts as well, and have ALSO worked at The Cavalier (only to have one instance happen to me) but I surely didn’t see anything. So until some of this supposed Cavalier stuff happens to me, I’m startin to think differently.
