Real Haunted House

Cemetery

Maltby, Washington

This cemetery is said to have been built by a Satanic family so that they might have an eternal resting place. In the middle of the cemetery, there are thirteen steps that lead to nowhere. Called the thirteen steps to hell, it is said that once a person walks downs these stairs, they perish instantly. Others, who have barely made it out alive, have reported seeing their spirit in hell at the bottom of the steps. It is reported that one man ran across the cemetery and was scared so badly, that he was never seen again.

The cemetery is located on Paradise Lake rd. It is hard to find. If you are coming from hwy 9, it will be on your right side after you go down a big steep hill, the road bends to the right, and then there is what is best called as woopty doos, or little hills. Before the road bend back to the left, there is a dirt rd to the right that goes up into the woods. But also be aware that they have built houses right up the border of the cemetery. The home owners down like people coming to it. As far as the comment someone left about the branches and things, that are the home owners trying to keep you out. Many strange things have happened there. I started going there in the mid ’80s when there was only woods the for at least a mile around it. Once they punched a road threw to it from the other side, we noticed alot of activity there. Such as seeing people(ghosts) dressed in tuxedoes as if it they were berried in them. On a cold night about 1:00am with no flashlight all by them self, what else cold it have been but ghosts? Well I have many more stories but you should go and have your own. The only thing to be afraid of is the home owners cathing you or the weird care taker that sometimes shows up in his very old truck with shovels and picks. Kind of weird, but the guys that have been there on Friday the 13th and Halloween know what I am talking about.

As far as the 13 steps to hell, they are not like normal steps. They are for the most part worn away by weather and time. It is just the levels or rows of the cemetery. They just go down to a small clearing. When I say small, I do mean small. It ends you in the middle of some big ceadar trees. I don’t know If I can leave my e-mail on this or not. So I will submit this comment and then leave my e-mail address for anyone that wants specific info on the cemetery.

As far as the 13 steps to Hell, they really are for the most part gone. Time and weather have kind of worn them away. But they are the levels or rows of the cemetery. They will end you up down in a very small clearing under the cedars trees. They are not like the steps in your house. I don’t know if I can leave my e-mail address on here or not. Just so I know this will get posted, I won’t put it on here. But after I post this, I will then post my e-mail address for any questions on Maltby Cemetery. I know it very well and have many strange this happen to me out there over the years.

I tried to just e-mail this to you, but it sent it back saying it couldn’t be delivered…I know how to get to the trail to the cemetery, but then do you just follow the trail straight to it, or what?

Robert Pabst says:

June 15, 2009, 1:17 am

Yes the trail you sppek of is actually what used to be a dirt road that you could drive up to the top. But now its rather over grown. Once you get to the top of the the road/trail, yes it is nearly infront of you. But off to the left a bit. The cemetery is not very big, so I don’t want to make you think it is a really big place. I am guessing from what I remember there is about 30-40 graves, and that might be guessing rather high. I don’t know why your e-mail did not go threw. But maybe you entered it wrong. The way it is written on this sight makes it look wrong. the last for are numbers as in the year 1969. It almost looks like “g”. But I check my e-mail almost every night at work on 3rd shift. So anything you post I will see. There is one thing to look for there too to help you find it. There is what looks like a chimney with a metal pointed cap on it coming out of the ground. Some say it was capped since someone crawled into it, and got stuck and died. But thats just rumor. Anything else that I can do to lead you to the cemetery, just let me know.

I went up there last night with a few friends, and we found it. People had broken down a trail on the right hand side of the yard waste, so we were able to just walk through them. It really wasn’t that weird…I’m going to try to go again though. Can anyone explain about where these “13 steps to hell” are, or at least where they used to be.

Also, the asylum in Redmond…Anyone know anything about that?

Robert Pabst says:

June 15, 2009, 2:27 am

Good I am glad you found it. The 13 steps to hell….Well there is no longer a full 13 steps. It is the layers or rows. they go down into the woods. You can kind of tell where they used to be. But they just go down into a small clear spot under the cedar tress. If I remember right, the area is about 20ft in diameter. And thats where the “so-called” devil worshipers used to meet. The best time to g to the cemetery when there is usually more poeple there is around midnight to 2am on friday the 13th or on halloween. But I have seen strange things on just anyold night. It was very active when they were just clearing the area to start building homes there. I personaly have not been there in a while. But have alot of strange memories fo the place.

This place is OK, the trail at night (11pm-1am) is freaky though the cemetery is tiny, we accidentally walked all the way up the owners house and triggered the automated lights and bolted down the trail right after, I’ve also been to the Carnation cemetery, that was fun as well, no ghosts though, anyone know a haunted place for sure, that’s accessible by the public please e-mail me libertyhs05@yahoo.com

Me and a bunch of my friends went there last night and to get to it you have to walk like a mile on this trail back behind a bunch of houses and then sneak through this guys back yard. but it was pretty ******* scary

Rob says:

You people are rather strange. For the people that have been there and that were going there long before the houses were built, know that most of these stories on here are not true. For one, the trail to get there is no a mile long, its about 100yrds. It’s also not a trail, it’s an old dirt road. In fact, we used to drive up it to the cemetery. At least when the gate was open. Also the 13 steps to hell are there, just rather worn away by time. It’s just the layers of the cemetery. I don’t know why anyone feels they have to make up stories about it. It is real and there are times where it is more active than others. You might go there and not see anything, but then there are times where things will happen and scare the hell out of you. But if you guys want to keep making these false stories up, I guess it’s your right. But for the ones of us that know the cemetery and have seen things and have truly experienced unbelievable things, we know the truth. So laugh if you want, just because you saw nothing when you were there, does not mean we did not. Trust me, we know the real true stories when we see them. May the Doolittles rest in piece.

Anyone who can’t find this place is retarded. It is there, it is real, it is strange and it is scary. The underground crypt (13 steps), headstones with pentagrams and others with “Order of Pendo.” (A secret society)

So I have had plenty of expericance with the supernautral. My bother alwys goes up there and quit a few of my friends, so tonight August 17, 2009 my two buddies and I went up there. We got there parked and then started our hike i told them i had a bad feeling and and then they my one friend was worried about his car so we turned around got in and started to drive further up. We drove up past the house which is goreaous and for lease. It was kinda wierd though becasue as soon as we started to drive by the woods i started to get sharp pains in my temple and head then they turned into be migranes and the house was waht i pretty much had expected. We stopped and got a flyer and this big white fluffy dog just sat there and watched us it was wierd we drove off parked our car and started out hike agian. I was feeling uneasy and my hands instantly became clamy then I still wasnt settled and I felt like i was being watched or followed I ended up starting to get rely hot and like breaking out inot a cold sweat. I swear we were close but I jsut started to freak out I was staring to cry and I was ready to have a panick attack. THey tried to get me to keep goint but for some reason it was like I couldnt. Which was a good thing. I sitll had my headache on the way back we all went faster and everthing thing felt a little more settled. It jsut wasnt right there is somethign worng with taht palce.

Allena says:

And yes there rely is the steps to hell. That concrete slap ya all see its because the police went up there and cemented it all down so no one would ever beable to walk down it again. Some people say it was all the dissaperances that people would walk down there adn dissapear or that they would walk down there and theri freinds would see there spirits leave and they went crzy or that it was just partying.

So I’ve only recently stumbled across Maltby Cemetery and the myths surrounding it. It sounds really interesting. I am a genealocial enthusiast and also a researcher/contributor for a website that compiles cemetery records for genealogical purposes. The site has memorials for most of the people buried at Maltby but not all, and no or very few pictures. I would love to go and take pictures/transcribe records but I cannot risk getting in trouble and wouldn’t want to make the owners mad. Also, I live down in Auburn so it would be a long drive in the dark, not to mention unfamiliar territory. I have located what I believe is the owner’s residence on Google Sattellite but I wouldn’t just want to walk up to their door asking for permission and get turned away after such a long trip. I am hoping one of you locals out there knows the last name of the family who owns the cemetery and/or can get the exact address of that house so I can hand write and snail-mail them a formal request asking for permission to come transcribe the cemetery. From all the research I have done already, I’m a little worried that they will say no because of all the vandalism that has occured there. The best I can do is assure them of my respectuful reverance for cemeteries and hope they grant me entry. If that doesn’t work, I may be looking for some of you brave kiddies to do the dirty work for me. Not too dirty, just photographing every headstone (I hear there aren’t very many), making sure the names and dates are visible in the picture, and if they aren’t visible, writing down the names and dates so I can add them to the database of over 36 million graves worldwide :) Please someone help me with this, it is my passion but like I said before, I can’t risk getting in trouble. My teenage years are behind me now and I have a young child to think about.

I am having trouble finding the pulloff from the Google maps street view, the only one I’m seeing I don’t think is the right one? But if I’m correct about the house location, it is the white house at the end of NE 203rd Pl.? The one with the dirt road running to the right of it with the chain going across it and the log in front of it? The google maps “approximate address” is 19430 NE 203rd Pl. I need to know if this is the right house and what their actual house number is.

I live in Monroe,Wa. I’m doing a paranormal investigation for my senior project. and i always hear about this place! Do you need proof that you have family to get into the cemertary?

Lizzie Bathory says:

October 1, 2009, 3:20 pm

I’m pretty sure you do need proof. From everything I’ve heard, the owners’ patience has worn thin over the years. Or maybe they are satanic crazies, I dunno. Either way, it seems you need proof of your relation to someone there to get access granted. Or, you do it like everyone else does, and sneak in at night.
