Real Haunted House

Cemetery

Maltby, Washington

This cemetery is said to have been built by a Satanic family so that they might have an eternal resting place. In the middle of the cemetery, there are thirteen steps that lead to nowhere. Called the thirteen steps to hell, it is said that once a person walks downs these stairs, they perish instantly. Others, who have barely made it out alive, have reported seeing their spirit in hell at the bottom of the steps. It is reported that one man ran across the cemetery and was scared so badly, that he was never seen again.

If you park on Paradise Lake road and walk up the hill you will be fine. The people that live around it just get ticked off that people cut through their yards, but none of them own the property. I can’t see how you can get into any trouble going there during the day as long as you are not being destructive

I’ve always heard that it’s on private property, that it’s pretty much in the owner’s backyard. And I’ve also heard that they will either call the cops on trespassers or fire a warning shot from their shotgun (the latter seems less likely to me). Really don’t want to have an encounter with the poh-leece.

Grew up there in the early to mid 80’s before any houses were built with the exception of raintree. There were 13 steps. Many strange things would happen there no matter what time of day or night it was. Definitely haunted. The dolittle family seemd to occupy the cemetary for the most part. The best thing was all the stories my friends and I use to tell others and how the stories would be added to and exagerated over the years. Hey Doug and Paul:)

OK for you guys looking for an address, you wont find it by that. easiest way to find it is go east on hwy 522 out of Bothell or Woodenville. If you are coming from Monroe, go west. You’ll come to a light at Paradise Lake Road. Go turn right if headed east, turn left if headed west. You’ll go about 2-3 miles at most. maybe less. If you reach NE 202 pl. you went a bit too far. It will be the last dirt road before NE 202 PL. on your right. I have not been there is years, but thats where it is. There are house built right up to it and they don’t like you coming to it, so you’ll have to be quiet. As far as the 13 steps, you wont really see 13 steps. the cemetary is built in steps and they just go down into the trees to a small opening. At least 20 years ago thats what it looked like. I used to go there every Friday the 13th and every Holloween. It is a private cemetary so you can be kicked out. I have personally seen some very strange things there that you can not explain except paranormal. If you need any info or n more stories about the place e-mail me at rpabst1969@yahoo.com. I know of this place very very well. I still check this website and get emails when ever there is a post on here. You can also go to Google maps and get a ground view of the dirt road. Wow…I just looked on goole maps, I am wrong…It is now over grown big time. It now just looks like a wide spot or a pull off spot on your right hand side of road. looks to be about 1/2 mile bore NE 202 PL.

Been here, but not in about 20 years. Never have seen anything there that I could not explain. I dont believe in ghosts but do believe in mentally unstable people who enjoy causing harm to others. The only interesting fact about Maltby I have ever verified, is a story in one of Ann Rules books that took place around the 50’s. Maltby cemetery is where a dog un-earthed the missing girls skull, who disappeared from lake Ballinger in Edmonds. In the centerfold, were photos that were taken in the 50’s of the crime scene, which showed the original dirt road with a chain across 2 posts. Good Luck.

In high school my friends and I would drive up and down Paradise Lake Road and try to scare ourselves. We actally had some scary exoeriences and there’s lots of crazy spots along that road. We’ve seen bonfires in the woods, turn around and it’s gone, no smoke, nothing. There was one time in particular that stands out and I still find it hard to beleive. I was driving down the road with friends late at night. It’s a very hilly road and we were the only car on the road. I saw a car behind me but at a far distance. It seemed to approach my car so quickly. Before I knew it I was hitting speeds 70 miles an hour. The older model car was flashing it’s lights and swirving behind me. I ve never been more scared. We pulled into a neighborhood and drove into a culdesak. The car followed is in and just sat there at the enterance waiting for us to head back to the main road, reving it’s angine. The car’s lights dimmed with the reving of the engine. It was right out of a movie. I luckily saw someone standing at their window of their home and yelled out for help. The homeowner came outside and the car backed up and headed back to the Paradise Lake Road. Scary stuff. I have never been so scared in my life. Also, I found the cemetary, it’s on the hillside and overgrown with bushes and foliage. It sits right up next to large homes… so not all that scary.

I have visited this cemetry several times between 2002-2004 usually on shoot for some amature modeling I have done. I won’t tell anyone how to access it but let’s just say it requires a small hike. I almost always brought flowers and even though I like to have a drink while on shoot I was always carefull to not leave any trash or disturb any thing; I also only went during the day time. There were times the owners of the property were watching us but since we were respectfull no one ever made us leave. I have to say that some of the photos did turn out a little weird: mists in the shots that were not there during the shoot; a few photos that appeared to have what could be orbs (some of them had to have been). One time while shooting it mysteriously started to snow (in March) after I passed through the two sharp pillars that were obviously at some time a gate. While I saw where there may have been steps (concrete slabs) it appeared maybe they were covering up something? I never felt scared but actually kinda peaceful there (perhaps I am just more comfortable with the dead than others?) I did take my at-the-time boyfriend up there once and he was tripped several times on the way up and down the short hike and he was absolutly terrified of the place. He said it felt like something was purposley tripping (or grabbing at)him and he couldn’t get out fast enough! -I have never experienced any thing scary there but I can say the place definatly has an aura to it. Some of the head stones are so old you can’t read them and some seemed to have odd symbols or inscriptions. The place is worth a look if you intend to be respectful but if you go there at night know that it is private property and if you have any doubt or ill will in your heart you might just get what you have comming.

Sam, who the **** do you think you are? It’s not your property, idiot, so why do you care? And also, you must be the dumbass because you can’t spell worth ****. Here’s a little spelling lesson for you, retard:
First of all, it’s Lizzie not Lizzi.
Speak not speek
Gauge not gage
Rabbit not rabit
Dumb not dumd
Legal not legale
Trespassers not treapassers

If you are gonna try to insult someone, maybe you should make sure you don’t just make yourself look like a complete *** first.

Jayden says:

First I will say to Sam that you are uneducated and don’t know the law! It is no legal to shoot trespassers I am a current CWP holder and know the law. Second don’t try to be some big shot you are not.

Lizzie I wanted to say taht we have been there many times and always respectful. I would be willing to go there and the pictures you need during the day in fact I have most of them now.

GETTING OVER THE BRUSH PILE!

Now onto my story on the visit that impacted us the most. We went to Maltby and went up the trail getting over the brush pile was no easy task nonetheless we made it. Even standing on one side of the brush you would never know that there was a graveyard on the other side. The pile is big and you can’t see anything untill you are over. Once you get over it look to the left. There is about a 10-15 foot open spot where you are in the backyard of the house in front of the graveyard. Duck low and get down to the first level quick before you are seen.
Our first trip was in the daytime the worst was at night.
ON THE WAY UP TO THE YARD ON THE TRAIL THERE IS A PIT OF WREKCED CARS!

The pit to the left of the trail with the wrecked cars are said to have been people who had bad expirences up there panicked and wrecked trying to get out. Nobody was ever killed in those cars but there is said to have been a murder down in that pit. There is one car with a tree growing through it that is big enough to be at least 20 years old I would think. The cars are all very very old model cars I would have to ask my brother what years. One car stands stright up and to look at it seems like someone got scared or tried to avoid hitting something and drove right into the huge whole. It must be 30 or 40 feet deep. Don’t get too close as the this is the northwest it is often wet and the ground gives way easily and if you fall I don’t think there will be any getting out without the fire department and I don’t know how they would even get a truck in there to get you out. That pit is serious business.

WHY WE WERE THERE!

We went with many different devices to catch energy, orbs, spirits, and other oddities like a oiuja board. One the way up the trail I heard some whispers but said nothing for fear of freaking everyone else out. I have always been somewhat of a sensitive.

MOVING GRAVES AND THE PUBLIC RECORD!

We got in and I did notice that some of the names on the stones had moved a site or two but thought that I was just mistaken. I never knew about any of the stories on moving graves until tonight and ready 15 pages of comments of others visits. I also noticed that as of recent thepublic record is missing several graves that are not that old. There are quite a few graves from the mid to late 90’s and early 2000’s that are not in the public record and one grave that has a birth date but no death date yet. The last DOOLITTLE burried there was as recent as I think was 2003 and it is said that there is only one DOOLITTLE still alive ( and is a female in her 80’s who I will leave anonymous out of respect for her privacy)no matter how many wack jobs on here claim to be a DOOLITTLE.
PICTURES, ENERGIES, ORBS AND STUFF!

We did get a lot of pictures of unexplained fogs and mists and some orbs. The electrical energy needed no device to be felt.I don’t remember exactly what came of the board (not sure I beleive in them) but I do remember whatever it was saying to them is what made us real scared and want to leave. It said something that made everyone want to run like hell. There were I think about 7 of us and most of them ran down the hill outta there really fast.

THE GHOST DOG OR WHAT OTHERS CALL THE HOUNDS OF HELL!

I was lagging behind with one of the calmer guys in the group and then all of the sudden we heard what sounded to be a very big dog barking and running through the woods towards us. I have a 70 pound pitbull and got real scared because that dog sounded bigger than mine and was coming up on us very fast and getting closer faster than we could run. We thought that maybe the owner had unleashed a watch dog or something because there was no warning it just all of the sudden starting barking and coming out of nowhere. Not fromt he house but from the woods. It sounded like it was running downhill towards us as we were running like hell down the wet muddy trails tripping over trees to get outta there. As so as the last person got over the gate by the road the dog seemed to just stop. Never heard it walking away or anything. We always called it the ghost dog when we told of our visit. This was no near by Kennel or tied up dog this was a huge dog chasing us that just vanished. It didn’t fade away or retreat it just vanished. All of the sudden there was no more foot steps in the woods from the dog and no barking it was close enought that we were jumping onto the back of the pickup to keep from getting bit but there was no dog. We got out stood there on the truck and quietly listened and there was no dog. Not steps away no more barking no nothing.

THE OUIJA BOARD!

After being scared out of the cemetery by the dog but not ready to go home we sat on the back of the truck playing the board again. Once again I was not the one playing the board so I don’t remember what it said exactly but I do remember it was in the reference to death and get out. We left and thought twice about returning.

WHO WE ARE AND WHY WE GO!

We have been there many times and never been bothered. Maybe it is because we have no ill intentions. We don’t believe in descrating graves or satanic rituals in fact some of us don’t really believe in ghosts at all. I would say half of our group beleives and the other half have spent the last few years trying to convince us to beleive. We are just a group of people who are interested in haunted things and have put a bit of money into some of our adventures and traveled far and wide. None of us drink or do drugs at all, not on our haunts or at home.

WHAT THE PLACE IS LIKE!

There are no 13 steps to hell that we could find. There are simply three tiers of graves simply put in someones back yard. They are very close to a childrens playset and if the children were running around they could indeed run into the graveyard. Not something I would want my kids around. There was what looked to be a grave actually in the backyard above the graveyard. The biggest gravestone of the whole place. We did no go into the yard to see the name for fear of getting noticed but think it could be the most recent grave as it is new granite or marble type stone. It is about 15 feet above the rest of the graveyard and def a newer one. It is not old stone and it is rather large and only about 10 feet from the childrens playset in front the two iron poles that are the entry from the backyard of the home to the graveyard. I would say there are closer to 20-30 graves and many of them died at young ages. The youngest was only a few days old. Doolittles, Cooper, and Davis seemed to be the most prominent graves.

AS FAR AS THE WITCHES, FREEMASONS, SATANISTS, AND OTHER CREEPY STUFF GOES!

There are a lot of graves there with freemason symbols and other symbols that appear to be of odd orgins but I didn’t see anything that led me to believe that any of these people were really witches or satinists as I have studied quite a bit of this stuff in my travels. I was also told that back in those days it was common for people to dig up, disturb or otherwise destroy graves of non-christians and especially rob the graves of freemasons because people believed that they were burried with their riches and therefor this cemetery was built by a family of freemasons who wanted their graves to not be destroyed or disturbed. It was that the young kids, drunkards, drugged up, and old story tellers is how it got deemed a satanic graveyard. The only Satanic rituals said to have taken place there were by the people who were coming and going not the ones that were residing there if you know what I mean.

GRAVEYARD GATES, THE TWO IRON ENTRY POLES AND THE NEWER GATE BY THE ROAD ON THE TRAIL LEADING INTO THE GRAVEYARD!

Let me say one thing about graveyard gates as I explain the two iron poles. A lot of people beleive that the gates put around graveyards were believed to keep people in. Meaning the spirits could not cross the gates to get out. The gates that stand now are to keep people out. As I have studied this graveyard, it’s history, and the towns history for many years now I am of the opinion that the two poles to the old iron gate that still stands is whats left of the gate that was supposed to be the afterworld gate to keep spirits in. When standing between them a bitter cold came over me and it was not a good feeling.

THE EXPLAINED VERSUS UNEXPLAINED!

With all this being said there were some things that I could explain away by saying I was scared already and the human mind tends to make you think things when you are in that frame of mind. Some things could be chalked up to just being scared and the science that say darkness can make a person see things that are not there. Some things can only be explained by saying I have no idea what the hell was going on but it was not of this lifetime doing it.

ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS TO THE PLACE!

THIS ONE IS FOR THE DUMMIES WHO ASK THE GUYS AT THE SHELL FOR DIRECTIONS!
It is not easy to find the place at all unless you know your way around there. Whatever you do don’t stop and ask the gas station where it is. That is the fastest way to get caught you dummies! It is private property and you shouldn’t ask how to trespass. THEY LIKE TO NOTIFY THE OWNERS AND THE POLICE OF YOUR SEARCHING AND THEY WILL FIND YOU BEFORE YOU FIND IT! LOL

OUR CONVERSATION WITH THE GUYS AT THE GAS STATION!

On the way home we stopped at the gas station to get smokes and coffee and asked the attendant what the big deal was about the secret graveyard and why the locals have gaurded it so closely and why the town of Maltby had so many hidden secrets and the attendant was QUICK to run us out of there just for asking that. I do know that the whole town of Maltby is a little strange the people around there know when you don’t belong and it is hard not to be noticed if you are up to no good.

OUR LAST TRIP AND WILL WE GO BACK?

There is a very heavy feeling that you get there. It is half way between fear and anger. I noticed that every time we went there it seemed that there was a lot of fighting between us and our group of friends is very close and never fight. We also had flashlights, camera’s and other equipment die due to sudden battery loss. Our last expirence was bad enough that none of us want to go back. There is something about the place that when we talk about it we get scared. None of us want to go back at night that is for sure! There is just some very uneasy feeling about the place to begin with and it is somewhat unexplainable. We all saw and heard things that we could not explain even those of us who don’t believe. Most of it we are willing to chalk up to pure fear and human nature but there are those few things we may not be willing to say was a ghost but will forever call unexplained.

MESSAGE TO FUTURE VISITORS!

Please respect the fact that in order for that place to exisist someone has lost someone that they love dearly. The loss of a person is hard enough without someone coming along and taking one last stab at your family but hurting all that you have left to memorialize your loved one. Respect that everyone burried there belonged to a family that loved them very much. You would not want someone driking, drugging, and vadalizing your families graves so please don’t do it to them. I would like to say just leave them all alone but my curiosity couldn’t keep me out so I know others will go just be respectful and don’t do anything you that you would not do in front your parents and grandparents.

Good Luck and Best wishes to all!

Jayden, I would love to use your pics if you don’t mind! I wouldn’t mind going in the day time either, it’s just a long drive and I don’t know how the owner would react to seeing me there, I’ve seen a lot of mixed responses about that.

As mentioned I moved to Reintree in 1978 (my parents still live there) and this was long before the development came anywhere close to the cementery. In fact, the road did not even go through. The only way to get there was from dirt bike trails from Woodinville-Duvall road or at the end of the Reintree develoment which stopped well short of Paradise Lake road. My brother and I and our friends used to go to the cemetery at least once a week. In fact, we built a fort in the woods right before the empty field that used to border the cementery. We would hide in there and watch idiots getting scared in the cemetery or weirdos doing stupid rituals. The dirt road that lead up to the cemtery from Paradise Lake road was very narrow and had a couple of bends in it. At least 2-3 times a year people would run off that road drunk and every once in a while they would just leave the wreck there until someone else drug it off. We played in most of them except for a few that had a ton of blood in them from people hitting the dash board!

The Doolittles used to own a farm right across the street from the cemetery. They had a ton of dogs and one really big dog was once hit by a car on Paradise Lake Road and some idiot dragged the body up to the cemetery and put it over a gravestone. After that we used to hear much more barking in the woods and we never would see the dog, the thought back then was that the ghost of the dog was still haunting the area.

As for the 13 steps, they were real! It has been 20 years since I have been back to the cemetery so I have no idea what they look like now, but at the time the steps were covered with moss and you could walk down them, but could not get enough traction to easily walk back up them. That is where the name originally came from.

The snow thing happened to us as well. I can’t remember the month, but it was way too late for snow and we were riding our bikes to the cemetery and one we got to the open field it snowed for a few minutes. This was witness by myself and 4 other friends. Of course nobody believed us when we got back home, but it did happen.

There also used to be a iron gate and some decorative iron fencing around the cemetery which I understand is mostly gone now. It is a shame that this place was not kept in its original shape because of idiotic vandals. One year someone actually dug up a grave and dropped it into a neighbors of ours back yard. The police came and patrolled the area much more for the next couple of months and that was it. At the time, the local police where from Redmond.

Anyone else remember Honda hill which was also near the cemetery?

Most of the stories here are accurate. However, there are a few corrections that need to be made. I don’t remember “13 Steps” of anything which may be why no one has seen them. I’m not disputing the fact but the real story of the Maltby Cemetary is the “Satan Stone.” This stone (which may be located at the bottom of the 13 steps) is a flat stone that has a pentagram carved into it. If you step on this stone you will die instantly! I’m sure countless people have died from this nefarious stone but it is scientific fact that a horse once step on the stone and while the rider of the horse was unharmed, the horse died later that day. Such is the power of the Satan Stone!!
My personal story involving this evil demonic playground happened on a bright summer day in between my Junior and Senior high school year in 1988. While outside on my friends porch that is a few hundred meters away from the cemetary, the calm was ruptured by the sound of a cat being hideously tortured to death (the obvious handy work of the satanic cult that ruled the nights of Woodinville, Wa!)! The noise continued for several minutes and could be heard through out the neighborhood. Finally, we couldn’t take it anymroe and the police were summoned. As the police drove up the wailing stop. We could see the police pull onto cemetary rd (this was before the area was over-developed with houses) and after a few minutes of investigating and finding nothing, they left. But, satanic cults haven’t lasted milenia because they are easy to catch, and they easily foiled the weak attempts of the King Co. Sherrif Dept by merely melting into the shadows. This was evidenced by the immediate sounds of torture of the cat the instant the police car was out of eye sight! THAT’S A TRUE STORY THAT I WAS A WITNESS TO!! Although I can’t confirm this, I was told later on a cat was nailed to a tree in the cemetary- the sure handiwork of Satanists in my day.

Some of us where there in the early 70’s… There certainly were steps, but at least in the 70’s and early 80’s there was not a flat stone with any markings on it at the bottom of the steps.

As mentioned, I played there as a kid weekly long before there where any houses there. We saw several idiots up there cutting up cats and even goats.
