Cemetery
This cemetery is said to have been built by a Satanic family so that they might have an eternal resting place. In the middle of the cemetery, there are thirteen steps that lead to nowhere. Called the thirteen steps to hell, it is said that once a person walks downs these stairs, they perish instantly. Others, who have barely made it out alive, have reported seeing their spirit in hell at the bottom of the steps. It is reported that one man ran across the cemetery and was scared so badly, that he was never seen again.

tthe only thing remaining there that is scary is the threat of going to Jail for tresspassing. When they built houses there about twenty years ago it took the mystiek away. I allwayes figured if those houses were not haunted the stories were all ****. i meen if the second most haunted cemetery in the world accourding the urban legend on rippleyes Beilive it or not and in search of. Though I could never find the episodes. Would the houses next they built around not get Fucked whith? Before hand i guess Mr Doolittle youst to wander ready to pump rock salt up someones *** who tresspassed. And there were the steps and the Ghost kids legends all that ****. I could never find steps but wonered if they were located where that rock pile is. Or going down the hill into woods. And I have searched and searched been there on Halloween and all. sorry to say No ghosties or wierd **** but it sure makes for good urban legend. High school friends parents even partied there

Thanks for the post nowhereman, but just because you didn’t have an experience there doesn’t mean everyone elses are “urban legands”. I read on another post that the 13 steps were filled in with concrete largely because of trespassing problems.

Ok lets try leaving a comment again. I can give you detailed directions on how to find it. E-mail me at rpabst1969@yahoo.com for directions. Keep in mind that it is private propery and the houses that are now buiolt right up to the property dont like visitors. best time to go is night time. But go during the day to find the place. I have had alot happen while I was going there in the 1980’s, have not been there in a while. It is very over grown and not easily found.

ABOUT A MONTH AGO I DECIDED TO BE A MATURE PERSON RATHER THAN A YOUNG JUVANILE DELINQUENT LIKE I WAS LAST TIME I WAS AT CEMETERY. I KNOCKED AT DOOR OF OWNERS AND TRIED TO ASK POLITELY IF I COULD TAKE A CUOPLE OF PICS I WILL ONLY BE ABOUT FIVE MINNITES OR SO. AS YOU CAN SEE I DONT HAVE ANY DRUGS ALCHOHOL AND HAVE NO INTENTION OF VANDALASING I WOULD JUST LIKE A COUPLE PICS FOR A FACE BOOK PAGE. I WAS NOT RECIEVED WELL SHE SEEMED AS PARANOID OF ME AS A GHOST IN THE GRAVEYARD MABY THE GHOSTS ARE HAUNTING HER MAKING HER PARANOID OR SOMETHING. SPEEKING OF WHICH IF THIS PLACE WAS AS BAD AS THE STORIES TELL WHY ARE NONE OF THESE HOUSES NEXT TO CEMETERY HAUNTED? PERHAPS THERE IS SOME PARANORMAL ACTIVITY THERE BUT SECOND MOST HAUNTED CEMETERY IN THE WORLD I SERIUOSLY DOUBT IT! WHAT ABOUT RUTKERS TOMB IN EVERET? OR WHAT ABOUT THE OLD CEMETERIES IN NEW ENGLAND WHERE I WILL BE VISITING SHORTLY. THEY HAVE A SIMMALAR CEMETERY IN CONNECTICUT CALLED THE GREEN LADY CEMETERY GOES BACK TO MY DADS TIME. IF ANY ONE WENT INSANE AND DIED WALKING THE STEPS ITS BECAUSE THEY PROBABLY WERE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF SEVERALL HITS OF ACID AND MIND FUCKED THEMSELVES INTO BELIEVING SOMETHING IN THE URBAN LEGENDS!!!!!! I WISH I COULD BELIEVE MORE LIKE I DID AS A LONNELY TEENAGE BOY WHO LOST HIS MOTHER AT A YOUNG AGE AND WANTED SOME CONFERMATION OF A LIFE AFTER DEATH. AGING SUCKS I GUESS IM NOT SO GULABLE ANYMORE. BUT FOR ANY ONE TRYING TO FIND THIS PLACE IT IS HARD THE GATE AT THE BOTTOM IE THE ORIGINAL ENTRANCE SEEMS TO BE NONEXISTANT ALL COVERED UP I DONT SEE THE OLD CARS ANY MORE. I FORGET THE NAME OF THE HOUSING COMPLEX YOU TURN UP ON FROM PARADISE LK ROAD ON. HOW EVER THERE IS A PUBLIC PARK LOCATED NEAR THE HOUSES IN WHICH YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SNEAK OFF TRAIL ON AND SNEAK IN. HOW EVER IT DEFFANATLY IS NOT WORTH A TRESSPASS CHARGE FOR!!!!!!!!! WHITH OUT STEPS ALL YOU GOT IS AN OLD CEMETERY SURROUNDED BY HOUSES PRETTY LAME. BE COOL TO BRING AN EMF METER THOUGH JUST TO SEE FOR SURE BRING ART BELL OR GHOST HUNTERS OR SOMETHING I GUESS.
ALSO A FRIEND OF MINE WAS OFFERED A BID TO DO THE GROUNDS MAINTENCE FOR A FUNERAL THERE ABOUT FOUR OR FIVE YEARS BACK SO PEOPLE ARE STILL BURIED THERE SOME ONE KNOWES THE TRUTH MORE THAN LIKELY THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE LOL!!!!!!!!!

I RECENTLY WENT TO THE DOOR OF THE NEAREST HOUSE TO CEMETERY AND FIGURED BEING AS I AM NO LONGER A JUVENILE DELINQUENT MABY I COULD JUST ASK STRAIT UP TO GO IN AND TAKE A FEW PICS BEING AS I WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT DRUNK HIGH NOR LOOKING TO VANDOLIZE. I WAS NOT RESPONDED TO WELL! SHE WOULD NOT EVEN OPEN THE DOOR FOR ME MABY THE GHOSTS HAD HER SCARED OR SOMETHING? I SUPPOSE THAT WAS RUDE AND INAPPROPRIAT FOR ME TO ASK BUT WHAT IS THE HARM IN TRYING? TO THOSE LOOKING TO FIND THIS PLACE I FORGET THE NAME OF THE HOUSING COMPLEX BUT THE BOTTOM OF THE HILL ENTRANCE IS COMPLETELY GONE! BARELY A SIGN JUST A BIG DIRT MOUND. HOWEVER THERE IS A OPEN PARK NEAR THE HOUSES WHICH IS OPEN TO PUBLIC AND EASILY ABLE TO SNEAK INTO CEMETERY IF YOU DIVERT OFF TRAIL A BIT. HOWEVER IF THIS PLACE IS AS GUARDED NOW AS PEOPLE ARE SAYING I WOULD ADVICE IT IS DEFFANATLY NOT WORTH A TRESSPASS CHARGE. FOR THE MOST PART THE CEMETERY IS TOTALY LAME NOW. NO STEPS NO NOTHING SPECIAL. JUST ALOT OF HISTORY. I WOULD NOT MIND TAKING AN EM METER THERE JUST TO HEAR WHAT WOULD BE HEARD. I AM VERY SCEPTICAL OF ITS SUPERNATURAL PRESENSES AND DEFFANATLY DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS THE SECOND MOST HAUNTED CEMETERY IN THE WORLD. I WAS ONCE A VERY LONNELY YOUTH WHO LOST MY MOTHER YOUNG AND WANTED NOTHING MORE THAN TO PROVE THE EXISTANCE OF THE AFTER LIFE. I HAVE YET TO HAVE A SUPERNATURAL EXPERIANCE! BEEN TO THAT CEMETERY MANY TIMES NOTHING!!! HALLOWEEN FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH INCLUDED NOTHING. THERE IS ALSO RUTCERS TOMB IN EVERETT WA SUPPOSABLY HAUNTED. AS WELL AS A FEW HOUSES IN THE KING CO AREA. I AM TRAVELLING TO NEW ENGLAND IN A FEW WEEKS THERE IS A SIMMALAR CEMETERY CALLED GREEN LADY CEMETERY IN UPSTATE CONNECTICUT WHICH URBAN LEGENDS DATE BACK TO MY FATHERS CHILDHOOD. I MIGHT JUST CHECK THAT OUT I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED. INTERESTING NOTE A FRIEND OF MINE WHO OWNS A LANDSCAPING BUISNES WAS OFFERED A BID TO DO A GROUNDS KEEPING JOB AT MALTBY ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO IN PREPERATION FOR A BURIAL SERVICE. WHICH TELLS ME FOLKS ARE STILL BEING BURRIED THERE I ALSO VAGUELY REMEMBER READING ABOUT SUCH A THING IN THE NEWS PAPER. WHICH MEENS SOMEONE OUT THERE KNOWES WHATS UP THERE BE INTERESTING STORY TO FINALY LET THE CAT OUT OF THE BAG ABOUT WHAT THAT PLACE REALLY IS! THIS LINK HAS SATIFIED SOME OF MY CURIOSITY. HOWEVER I DONT BELIEVE ANY ONE HAS GONE INSANE ANDDIED AS A RESULT OF WALKING THE STEPS IF ANY THING JUST TO MANY HITS OF ACID CONVINCING THEMSELVES OF AN URBAN LEGEND.

I guess I need to go out there next time I visit my parents that live in the older part of the neighborhood. I have not been to the cemetery in probably 18 years as I have only been back to the area a couple of times and not in 9 years. But as mentioned, I can’t think of anyone that spent more time there than my brother and I did when we were kids in the late 70’s and 80’s. We even built hiding places in the woods to watch other older kids and weirdo’s stopping by. We even had a line across the road with cans attached to let us know someone was coming so we could hurry up and hide.
Their were Satanic cults there (or at least idiots that believed in wearing hoods and bleeding animals), there were 13 steps, there was original iron gates and fencing around some of the cemetery and some of the individual graves had shorter iron fencing around it. The place started to deteriate quickly in the late 80’s as more thrill seekers heard about the place and came to see it and damaged the property. There were graves dug up and even moved, the tombstones where knocked over and some of the wood stakes were stolen or even burned. The fencing was taken bit by bit as it was nice and ornate and fairly old so it was probably worth some money.
The homeowners around the cemetery do not own the property that the cemetery actually sits on so asking their permission is not really worth your time.
I can see how it would not appear very scary now. Just imagine it 30 years ago when there was not a housing development there and the only way into the place was through a thickly wooded back trail that was a couple of miles long (the way we got in) or through a windy dirt road off Paradise Lake road with cars on either side wrecked with blood on the seats or dash. The place was completely surrounded by deep thick woods and had a constant smell of death. There was a small open area in front of it, but the majority of the cemtery was dark due to the trees around it. There was always dogs barking in the distance and sometimes closer (real or not still scary). You never knew who you where going to run into there and no help was available if something went wrong.
Paradise Road itself was scary with only a few farm houses and no outlets other than the start and end of the road. That road has those big dips and winding turns in it which claimed a few lives in the several crashes that used to occur there yearly. That road and the entire area for that matter had zero Police presence so people raced on it and could stop by the cemetery at all hours of the day without worring about getting into trouble. The closest police at that time was Redmond. There was no cell phones, so someone actually had to drive several miles to get to a pay phone to report an accident or disturbance as all of the farm houses where way too scary to drop by as you would probably get shot.

Me and my friends went to Maltby Cemetery 2 days in a row recently. The 13 steps have been paved over…they did however exist. There are a number of strange old 50’s and 60’s cars that crashed off the road on the hidden trail to the cemetery. There is a tomb/grave with a pentagram on it. We did have some scary stuff happen. We had a hard time breathing because the air was so thick. Also we saw a tomb/grave with a pentagram on it (make what you want out of it…we saw it) But what frightened me the most was hearing whispers and seeing a grave site with all of the words backwards for instance: the words said a taerg dnabsuh dna rehtaf. Translated (A GREAT HUSBAND AND FATHER) then we heard whispering got freaked and left. That place has some scary **** there.

BUT I AM WORIED ABOUT THE TRESSPASS ISSUE! PLEASE SOMEONE TELL ME THE BEST TIME AND PLACE TO SNEAK IN WHITH OUT NOTICE? ALSO THERE IS AN ABANDONED BARN ON A DIRT ROAD ALLMOST DIRECTLY ACCROSS FROM BOTTOM ENTERANCE. IS THAT A SAFE PLACE TO PARK?

There is no one “guarding” the cemetery. I talked with the neighbors and they said the house does not even own it, they just keep an eye on it. You really want to go late late 1:00ish. Be quiet. Listen for the dog if he barks then leave. Keep an eye on the house. And besides that your good to go. Note: If you really pay attention to area you can hear people whispering in the air. I did it and noticed it. Don’t get frightened though. They are just talking. Also keep your eyes peeled for a grave with all of the words backwards. It was so strange. A lot of people claim different things. I am just claiming what I have seen and heard. Besides that I didn’t see any ghosts or anything but you can smell the death. It literally smells like people got up from their graves and walked around. I noticed a odd stench there. If you don’t hear or see anything don’t be surprised it took me awhile to notice some things. Sit on the little girls tomb and you will feel your chest close up. Look at the cars crashed they mean something (Why are they there? on the road to the graveyard…what does it mean). However I did feel sick there because it is a dark place with bad energy, but don’t let it get to you. Unless you feel attacked leave…if your spooked or notice something stay and listen to them. I swear you can hear whispering about you. I heard things like, “Why does it happen?” and I heard a man’s voice counting like “1..2.3 4 5…6 7 8″
it’s an incredible place. If you go there with the desire to hear and see the dead, I think they just might attempt to show themselves.

Wow Dak, that all sounds very fascinating. I can’t wait to check it out in the future. Also i recall you said something about the 13 steps having been paved over. I don’t know much about them, but i heard a few variations of the legend behind them. I was wondering if you might know more about them, like what they used to lead to or anything. Most of the things ive heard never seem to add up and until now, i hadn’t heard anything about them being paved over.

You guys are so ridiculous. The steps are not paved over. They are part of the cemetery. If you guys are going to write about the cemetery, at least get all your facts right. I have known the cemetery for over 20 yrs now. The steps are nothing like what you think. They are just levels going into the woods. They have long time been worn away. They are now just like small rolls in the dirt heading down into the woods. So please get all the facts right 1st. The cemetery is off of Paradise Lake Road. Used to have an old driveway road or path that lead up to from the road. Many years ago they punched a new road to it and built homes all the way up to the property line. Its not like any other cemetery. It’s a private family owned place. So will be trespassing! But that never stopped us going there very Friday the 13th and Halloween. But that was years ago before the houses got built. Now you have to sneak up to it. Here is how you get there. Take hwy 522 east from Woodinville, or west from Monroe(hwy2). At Maltby, take Paradise Lake Rd off of hwy 522 go east. Take it a few miles east, you will come down a big hill and curve to the right. Then the road kind if has a couple little hills. What you are going to be looking for is a small wide spot on the right side of the road. It is very over grown, and I mean very over grown with bushes and trees. But keep looking for it. If you get to NE 202nd place, you went to far. Go back about ¼ to ½ mile. It is just passed a driveway to a home at or near about 24300 Paradise Lake Road heading east or at that point the road is going south. IF you go past and then reach to NE 202nd place on the right. You can turn around. The homes are built right up to it, going that way you would actually turn right on NE 202nd PL then turn right again on 194 pl NE. then bare right on NE 203rd pl. that road dead ends into it. But people’s yards block access to it.

Sorry, not trying to be rude about the paved over steps. I just get tired of people saying things about the place I used to go almost every weekend yrs ago. The steps actually ar pretty much gone. IF you were to come up from the old way where there was a gate and a road, the steps would be at the far side of the plots. They just go down into the woods towards Paradise Lake Road. There is a very small clearing about 15-20 ft around in the woods near the road. Thats where the worshipping took place befoer my time. But like I said, please no one make stories up about the place. I have many stories that are very true about it. Like when there was about 20 of us there and all our flashlights drained out in about 3 seconds. Scared the heck out of me. In fact sheared of the teeth on my front sprocket on my motorcycle trying to get out of there so fast. Scared another guy so bad, he came racing down the driveway/road and ran head on into the gate post with his, I think it was an old GTO or Nova or something. Saw very strange lights and shadows way before any new road or houses were built. Heard sounds like little kids playing. Came there one time when the new road was just dirt right up to the cemetery. Got there about 2am with some buddies. Was a cold night. Then out of no where came a guy that looked as if he just came from prom night, or dressed up like you would dress up to be put into your coffin. HE just came right out of the cemetery with no flashlight, no jacket, and no one else was around, no cars, and he just came walking…almost floating towards us. Got so scared we did not even stick around to see if it was really a ghost that just wanted to talk. Scared the **** out of me. Cause no one would be way out there, at 2 am no jacket, no flashlight, all by themselves in a haunted cemetery. But Maybe he was not a ghost, but looked like one to us.Anyway, all of you that want to go, my last post had very good directions. Have fun, but remember, it is a private cemetery owned by the Doolittles and you can be caught for trespassing….IF they catch ya. Happy haunting!

I was recently at a horror convention in Everett called crypticon. Spoke whith Kane Hodder told him some stories about the cemetery. Sort of in a cheap attempt to bring his Ghost hunter show there:) He at least got a kick out of the stories. For the record he has yet to be affected by any of the sites he has visited. Any way studying the stories it is rather strange that ghosts would inhabit a cemetery! Usually they inhabit house or place of death. It makes me wonder what the hell happened there once upon a time? I keep hearing the order of Pendu here. Masons are a strange bunch who could easilly be confused whith satanists whith theyre symbolism. Maby the Doolittles were just a bunch of domineering jerks who killed a wife and kids maby on those grounds who really knowes? It fits the time period any way! It is interesting the guy setting the story strait saying the steps were just that trail that leads to the woods heading down towards paradise lk road. Yeah i have been there day and night! How ever I have also seen the slab of concrete that is not marked as grave some speculate were once the steps cemented over. One way or the other the good stories are years passed as the houses have ruined the ombionce of the place! But it is a old urban legend anyways and I would love some pics during day! I realize that there has been alot of **** heads over the years who have ruined it for everyone whith excesive littter and vandolism!! But I just do not understand what is so god damn unreasonable about going during day whith out dope beer or trouble and taking a couple pictures!!!!!? **** those anal jerk offs in the house! Also I want to note that the Thirteen steps to hell legend is at other cemetries as well! Rukers tomb in Everett im pretty sure has same story as does some grave yard in Carnation somewhere. Any way this has all been really informative!

Rob you weren’t rude. I just read your words as rude and snobby in my head. Anyways Maltby is a strange horrific place. And the people in that neighborhood know something. I talked with some neighbors and they said they refused to speak about it but they did know the stories. WHO KNOWS! it’s just a weird place. And Rob where is the other entrance to Maltby, the only one I took was the dirt path that had the cars on the side of the trail. Is there another trail?

I’ll share what happened to me there around 1980.
I worked for the Northshore Citizen newspaper in Bothell around the time that I was a senior in high school. We had a lot of ads to insert into the newspaper that night, so I didn’t get done with work until like 2:30 in the morning. Myself and another kid both lived near Woodinville, & I mentioned that by the time we each got home & got to bed it’d probably be like 3:30 in the morning. So, why not find something to do & stay up all night? There was no Denny’s in Woodinville back then, only Good Time Charlie’s & we were too young to get in there. So we decided to drive his Mom’s newly restored VW bug out to Maltby Graveyard. Along the way we were talking about checking out the “13 Steps” we had heard about, and other macho tough high-school dude stuff that we’d do when we got there.
We did get there and started up the dirt road in the VW. At that time there was no barrier across the road and you could drive right up. The night that we were there, there was graffiti on the guard rails, some of with “666″ and Satanic symbols along with a couple of old cars that had run off the road & into the woods. We got to the top and the headlights lit up the grave markers. There were no lights up there & with all the trees it made it very dark. Well, all the macho **** stopped right then. We both jus sat in the car, motor and headlights on, not saying anything and amazed at how eerie & spooky this place really was. Finally one of us mentioned getting out, so we shut the motor off and got out of the car with the headlights still on. Neither of us got farther away than 10 feet from the car, but we were starting to feel a little more comfortable.
After being out of the car for a couple of minutes two lights came on from across the graveyard shining in our direction. At first I thought they were strong flood type flashlights and that we were going to be busted. Then the lights started moving…bouncing up and down. I shouted out “hey that car is driving across the BAD_WORD graves!!!” We both bolted to the inside of the car and he tried to start it. The car wouldln’t start and I figured he had panicked & flooded it. As my head bolted back and forth from watching the lights bounce in unison toward us and watching his foot on the pedal I yelled for him to hold the pedal to the floor & start it. He yelled back at me to quit yelling at him. Finally I screamed at him, “hold the BAD_WORD pedal to the floor or we’re done!” He pushed it down & finally got the car started. He floored it and spun the car around toward the entrance/exit, and I turned around to see where the “car” was behind us. As we turned a corner and started down the dirt road I turned around and didn’t see any lights. I looked forward and said, “whatever you do, don’t wreck”, at which he invited me to shut the hell up. I turned back around to my absolute horror, and I mean that literally, the two headlights were almost on our rear bumper. I yelled for him to floor it. It is amazing that at that speed, we were able to stay on that dirt road and not wind up like one of the other cars that had run off the road and perhaps into a tree. The headlights then fell back 20 or 30 feet, and then again were right up on our bumper. I can tell you, being as honest as I can possibly be, that I’ve been in some scary situstions in my life, but I have NEVER been as outright frightened in my entire life as I was at that moment.
With the headlights pulling close and then laying back a couple of times we finally made it to the paved road. The guy driving didn’t even look or slow down. He hit the road at probably 50 mph and just kept going. I turned around again and I told him that the lights were gone. He responded with, “they could still be back there”, to which I agreed. We made it to Snohomish-Woodinville Rd. where there were a few streetlights and I informed him that no one was following us as we headed toward Woodinville. He was still driving around 50mph and it had just rained some. Back then there was a very sharp hairpin on that road, which I had warned him about 3 times. Without listening he tried to take the corner & we shot off the road and dropped about 15 feet into a cow pasture. We tore through 3 barbed wire fences, and I had a wood fence post that came through the windshield shortly after I had ducked. The VW finally came to rest near a house in which all the lights went on and a call went out to the police. I really would like to know who that was that came tearing through the middle of the BAD_WORD graveyard after us that night. I also wonder what ever happened to that other kid I went up there with that night
