Central City Cemetery

This cemetery holds the remains of a woman who was determined to be a witch by her peers. If one stands just a few yards from her grave, a green mist will surround the area. If the lighting is right, hundreds of maggots will cover the ground.

  1. Will you please tell me the name of this woman? I would like to go and see her grave. Thanks.

  2. Hey. I don’t her name but I go to this cemetary often. There are a lot of “feelings” up there so I go to hone in on them in hopes of developing my ability to communicate with spirits. (sounds silly, I know). I have never heard the witch story but I have heard of the story of the lady in black who goes to the grave of John E. Cameron every November 1st and sometimes on April 5th. I believe he is in the masonic cemetary, although I have never found his grave in any of the cemetaries up there.
There are three cemetaries clustered together. A masonic, a catholic and the city cemetary. I have found a grave in the Central City cemetary that seems to put off an extremely sad feeling. Everytime I walk by this grave, I want to cry. The first time, I didn’t think anything of it. I just thought I was being over-emotional. (i have a heart condition that causes mood swings.) But the next 4 times I went, I got the same feeling each time and only when I stood or passed by this grave. It’s almost like a magnet or something. The farther away from it I am, the less I feel it. But the closer I am, the more I feel like crying. The last time I was there, I actually sat in front of the grave and let the feeling rush through me. I started bawling uncontrolably and I still have no idea why. I just did it to see what would happen.
So, I bet you’re dying to try this and if you do, post your findings on this site as I would love to see what somenone else has experienced.
Ok, so when you are driving up the road it is the first cemetary on your right. I believe there are two gates. One is back a little bit and it’s the first one you pass. This grave is through the second entrance (knights of pythagoras? maybe?) and straight up the path to the first crossroads. It is on your right-hand side, right on the corner of the crossroads. It’s a woman’s grave. Maybe this is your witch but I doubt it as people were not that ignorant around the time the city was established and witch-hunting has long since been gone. After all, the salem witch trials were the be all end all of that and past coloradoans were probably more worried about native tribes than witches.

  7. I’m going to visit this graveyard again soon. I’ve been there before. It was just my daughter & I. It was a misty day & no one else was around. There were several spooky things about this graveyard. One was the way some of the graves were amongst small groves of birch trees. We stopped at the grave of the three little boys. The headstone shows three heads/faces of boys. They died at different times, but all very young. Very sad. In the Catholic cemetary, we, all of a sudden, noticed a strong rotten odor. We thought maybe it was coming from some sort of weed as we didn’t see anything else around that could have been emitting such a foul smell. On our way back, when we passed that same area, we smelled nothing. It was gone. We wondered if a demon was present in that Catholic cemetary.

  8. Another thing about this graveyard. There is one grave that has a heavy metal bar in the shape of an X over the top of the grave. We joked about it & said maybe they wanted to keep whoever was buried there from getting out. Do you suppose that could be the witch’s grave??

  9. I WAS HALF RAISED IN CENTRAL CITY AND HAVE BEEN IN THE OLD CEMETARYS A HUNDREDS OF TIMES. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A WITCH BURIED THERE EITHER. BUT I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT THE CATHALIC CEMETARY IS VERY HAUNTED. MY DAUGHTER AND I WAS WALKING AROUND THAT PART OF THE CEMETARY WHERE THE GROVE OF TREES ARE AND MY DAUGHTER AND I KEEP SEEING A BOY ABOUT 10 YEARS OLD DUCKING BEHIND TREES AND HEAD STONES LIKE HE WAS WATCHING WHAT WE WAS DOING. WE NEVER SAW HIM HEAD ON ONLY OUT OF THE CORNER OF OUR EYE. HE HAD A WHITE LONG SLEEVE SHIRT AND BLACK DRESS PANTS ON? AND DARK OR BLACK HAIR. MY DAUGHTER AND I TRYED TO TAKE PICTURES OF BUT STILL HAVE TO GET THEM DEVELOPED. I HAVE GONE TO LOT OF COLORADO CEMETARYS BUT IF YOU WANT SOMETHING TO HAPPEN GO TO CENTRAL CITY YOU WON’T BE DISAPOINTED.

  12. Iv been to those graveyards. we ran into them going to a 4×4 trail, and i stop and went and walked those three cemeteries, and the knights of Pythagoras cemitare gave me the most unusual feeling. it wasnt a bad felling it just felt like someone was following me. and when i walk down one row and down in the middle the wind would blow, just enough to rustle the leaves of the trees. i didn’t do that anywhere else in that cemetery. and i was in there for about an hour taking picks. and every time i walk by that one spot the wind wind blew. i don’t remember where exactly it was all i know it is on the left side of the cemetery at the furthest entrance.

  15. Michell is correct. It IS the Knights of Pythias Cemetery and the Masonic is also there. I used to be a tour guide there when the Lost Gold Mine was still going. It is a creepy place, especially if you’re sensitive to spirits and you WILL see things you can’t explain! Cool, still partial-moon nights are the best. BTW Michelle There WAS a Pythagorus. He is best known for the Pythagorean theorem which bears his name. Known as “the father of numbers”, Pythagoras made influential contributions to philosophy and religious teaching in the late 6th century BC.

  17. My girlfriend and I were just up at the Knights of Pythias Cemetary, And its by far the creepiest place we’ve ever been.. As soon as we pulled up to it we had a very erie feeling. There was a red car parked with no one in it. I flashed my flashlight that i brought and there wasn’t anyone in the cemetary either. Just a random red car. We initially were going to walk around and look at some of the tombstones. (There was a lunar eclipse tonight and it was 10 at night.) We brought our digital camera to take pictures. Fist of all since the car kind of freaked us out we stayed in our car. My girlfriend tried to take a picture out of the front windshield and for some reason it was taking pictures of the dash board. Which I thought was strange… Kind of like a mirror effect. I rolled down my window and took two pictures. None of the tombstones that I was trying to take a picture of would show up. Just a huge rock and a bunch of light orbes (sp.) or “balls of energy” showed up in the picture. Not like one random one that could’ve been a reflection. In one of the pictures there are about ten, ranging in size, closeness, and brightness. Same as in the next picture. We were pulling out and I looked in my rear view mirror. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a black figure who seemed masculine. It walked around the back of my car towards the passenger side and seemed to touch the trunk as it walked. I hit the gas (reaction) and then hit the brake- i was on a gravel road so I had to to turn. I looked back again and nothing was there but I could’ve sworn on my life I saw something. We slowly drove by shining the light. Still no heads popping up in the car and no one in the graveyard. We took two more pictures. Aimed at more tombstones (which didn’t show up). In one there is a shape that almost looks like a shooting star hitting the ground and a few more orbes. We decided to leave and make our way back home. The entire time we were there we felt like we were being watched and knew that we weren’t alone. Half the drive back it felt like someone was almost following us or there was just a weird feeling in our car. We got home and were talking about me seeing a person behind the car. Just for fun we decided to go and look at the back of the car. On the right side of the trunk there were two different hand prints. It was exactly where I had seen the figure touch the car. Coinsidence? Maybe. Still f’in weird. We would like to go back and visit again and take more pictures. We’ll be sure to update with our next experience.
