Real Haunted House

Central City Cemetery

Central City, Colorado

This cemetery holds the remains of a woman who was determined to be a witch by her peers. If one stands just a few yards from her grave, a green mist will surround the area. If the lighting is right, hundreds of maggots will cover the ground.

Hey. I don’t her name but I go to this cemetary often. There are a lot of “feelings” up there so I go to hone in on them in hopes of developing my ability to communicate with spirits. (sounds silly, I know). I have never heard the witch story but I have heard of the story of the lady in black who goes to the grave of John E. Cameron every November 1st and sometimes on April 5th. I believe he is in the masonic cemetary, although I have never found his grave in any of the cemetaries up there.
There are three cemetaries clustered together. A masonic, a catholic and the city cemetary. I have found a grave in the Central City cemetary that seems to put off an extremely sad feeling. Everytime I walk by this grave, I want to cry. The first time, I didn’t think anything of it. I just thought I was being over-emotional. (i have a heart condition that causes mood swings.) But the next 4 times I went, I got the same feeling each time and only when I stood or passed by this grave. It’s almost like a magnet or something. The farther away from it I am, the less I feel it. But the closer I am, the more I feel like crying. The last time I was there, I actually sat in front of the grave and let the feeling rush through me. I started bawling uncontrolably and I still have no idea why. I just did it to see what would happen.
So, I bet you’re dying to try this and if you do, post your findings on this site as I would love to see what somenone else has experienced.
Ok, so when you are driving up the road it is the first cemetary on your right. I believe there are two gates. One is back a little bit and it’s the first one you pass. This grave is through the second entrance (knights of pythagoras? maybe?) and straight up the path to the first crossroads. It is on your right-hand side, right on the corner of the crossroads. It’s a woman’s grave. Maybe this is your witch but I doubt it as people were not that ignorant around the time the city was established and witch-hunting has long since been gone. After all, the salem witch trials were the be all end all of that and past coloradoans were probably more worried about native tribes than witches.

i dont no but i go to a graveyard in colorado and it is in old colorado springs. we videotaped it. on the tape you can see a white figure walking then look at you with a mean look. after that, she falls down. we went to where she was and there was nothing. i never go back.

I’m going to visit this graveyard again soon. I’ve been there before. It was just my daughter & I. It was a misty day & no one else was around. There were several spooky things about this graveyard. One was the way some of the graves were amongst small groves of birch trees. We stopped at the grave of the three little boys. The headstone shows three heads/faces of boys. They died at different times, but all very young. Very sad. In the Catholic cemetary, we, all of a sudden, noticed a strong rotten odor. We thought maybe it was coming from some sort of weed as we didn’t see anything else around that could have been emitting such a foul smell. On our way back, when we passed that same area, we smelled nothing. It was gone. We wondered if a demon was present in that Catholic cemetary.

Windy says:

Another thing about this graveyard. There is one grave that has a heavy metal bar in the shape of an X over the top of the grave. We joked about it & said maybe they wanted to keep whoever was buried there from getting out. Do you suppose that could be the witch’s grave??

I WAS HALF RAISED IN CENTRAL CITY AND HAVE BEEN IN THE OLD CEMETARYS A HUNDREDS OF TIMES. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A WITCH BURIED THERE EITHER. BUT I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT THE CATHALIC CEMETARY IS VERY HAUNTED. MY DAUGHTER AND I WAS WALKING AROUND THAT PART OF THE CEMETARY WHERE THE GROVE OF TREES ARE AND MY DAUGHTER AND I KEEP SEEING A BOY ABOUT 10 YEARS OLD DUCKING BEHIND TREES AND HEAD STONES LIKE HE WAS WATCHING WHAT WE WAS DOING. WE NEVER SAW HIM HEAD ON ONLY OUT OF THE CORNER OF OUR EYE. HE HAD A WHITE LONG SLEEVE SHIRT AND BLACK DRESS PANTS ON? AND DARK OR BLACK HAIR. MY DAUGHTER AND I TRYED TO TAKE PICTURES OF BUT STILL HAVE TO GET THEM DEVELOPED. I HAVE GONE TO LOT OF COLORADO CEMETARYS BUT IF YOU WANT SOMETHING TO HAPPEN GO TO CENTRAL CITY YOU WON’T BE DISAPOINTED.

Iv been to those graveyards. we ran into them going to a 4×4 trail, and i stop and went and walked those three cemeteries, and the knights of Pythagoras cemitare gave me the most unusual feeling. it wasnt a bad felling it just felt like someone was following me. and when i walk down one row and down in the middle the wind would blow, just enough to rustle the leaves of the trees. i didn’t do that anywhere else in that cemetery. and i was in there for about an hour taking picks. and every time i walk by that one spot the wind wind blew. i don’t remember where exactly it was all i know it is on the left side of the cemetery at the furthest entrance.

KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS
there is no such thing as Pythagoras

Ronald Withrow says:

October 26, 2007, 12:22 am

Michell is correct. It IS the Knights of Pythias Cemetery and the Masonic is also there. I used to be a tour guide there when the Lost Gold Mine was still going. It is a creepy place, especially if you’re sensitive to spirits and you WILL see things you can’t explain! Cool, still partial-moon nights are the best. BTW Michelle There WAS a Pythagorus. He is best known for the Pythagorean theorem which bears his name. Known as “the father of numbers”, Pythagoras made influential contributions to philosophy and religious teaching in the late 6th century BC.

My girlfriend and I were just up at the Knights of Pythias Cemetary, And its by far the creepiest place we’ve ever been.. As soon as we pulled up to it we had a very erie feeling. There was a red car parked with no one in it. I flashed my flashlight that i brought and there wasn’t anyone in the cemetary either. Just a random red car. We initially were going to walk around and look at some of the tombstones. (There was a lunar eclipse tonight and it was 10 at night.) We brought our digital camera to take pictures. Fist of all since the car kind of freaked us out we stayed in our car. My girlfriend tried to take a picture out of the front windshield and for some reason it was taking pictures of the dash board. Which I thought was strange… Kind of like a mirror effect. I rolled down my window and took two pictures. None of the tombstones that I was trying to take a picture of would show up. Just a huge rock and a bunch of light orbes (sp.) or “balls of energy” showed up in the picture. Not like one random one that could’ve been a reflection. In one of the pictures there are about ten, ranging in size, closeness, and brightness. Same as in the next picture. We were pulling out and I looked in my rear view mirror. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a black figure who seemed masculine. It walked around the back of my car towards the passenger side and seemed to touch the trunk as it walked. I hit the gas (reaction) and then hit the brake- i was on a gravel road so I had to to turn. I looked back again and nothing was there but I could’ve sworn on my life I saw something. We slowly drove by shining the light. Still no heads popping up in the car and no one in the graveyard. We took two more pictures. Aimed at more tombstones (which didn’t show up). In one there is a shape that almost looks like a shooting star hitting the ground and a few more orbes. We decided to leave and make our way back home. The entire time we were there we felt like we were being watched and knew that we weren’t alone. Half the drive back it felt like someone was almost following us or there was just a weird feeling in our car. We got home and were talking about me seeing a person behind the car. Just for fun we decided to go and look at the back of the car. On the right side of the trunk there were two different hand prints. It was exactly where I had seen the figure touch the car. Coinsidence? Maybe. Still f’in weird. We would like to go back and visit again and take more pictures. We’ll be sure to update with our next experience.

okay i’m confused to which cemetery is which… if you are coming from the New Central City parkway from I70 right before you enter the town you can turn left and go up that dirt hill and there is a cemetery looking over the city.. which one is that? and where are the others? we tried to go up last year to see the lady in black but couldn’t find the Masonic one.. I though it was up the mountain heading north through the town but the road was blocked with snow and couldn’t figure out if that was the right one.

Dan in boulder- you were at the masonic cemetery, you turned on to Nevada St and that is how you get to the Masonic. If you continue to go up Central City Parkway you will turn left of Lawrence which turns into Eureka and you take that to a dirt road and there will be a 3 way fork. To your right will be the Knights of Pythias, straight would be the Catholic and to the left is the odd fellows. All of which are creepy at night but the only thing I’ve heard are some sticks banging together and that was when I was at the odd fellows cemetery.

After visiting this mystical cemetery I dreamed of a little boy Tommy asking me to bring him a red ball. That started me thinking of all the children that died years ago and no one still thinks about them. So Stephen and I started to bring small toys whenever we visit Central City and Black Hawk. I have pictures of some of the children’s graves on my facebook page.

I went to the central park cemetery through the entrance The Knights of Pythias. Now I did not find a grave of a woman that was supposed to be a witch, Does anyone know where this woman’s grave is at?? Also someone mentioned at the crossroads a woman’s grave that lets off negative sad energy…I did not find hers either. Does anyone have any tips on exact locations or names of these spirits or people?? Do these sightings only happen late at night?

I am so glad that I finally found a place where people actually say what they have experienced while up in the cemetaries. I live in Lakewood and go up to the Knights of Pythias cemetary as often as possible. So many things have been experienced during my visits that explanation would be impossible. I do have many pictures many orbs as well as an incredible picture with who I call a Blue Angel. I want so much to post the pic but feel as thoough I am not supposed to for personal reasons. There are videos on utube that clearly show many figures of children as well as adults.I would really like to talk to someone about something that concerns me regarding the Knights of Pythias, and those connected with the order. If any one has visited this cemetary and does so frequently please contact me @ tracyden75@yahoo.com I was just there this morning and it seemed to me that all of the headstones had been cleaned, repaired, moved or altered to the point that it looked like the cemetary was much more modern than it actually is. I am curious if it because of the recent attention it has recieved if anyone knows whats up with it please contact me!! Also I have heard no one speak of the Bald Mountain Cemetary, this one is back deeper in the woods down the dirt road it too is amazing!! I look forward to sharing more experiences and thoughts and conversations with you all!!!

The Knights of Pythias is with the Masonic, I didn’t see a Masonic cemetary sign anywhere. Was that the Masonic too?

However, when we go to Odd Fellows Cemetary, there at the front is a black iron fence surrounding several headstones, one of which is a 15 year old girls there and to the left is a 90 great grandmothers grave that I always have a feeling of please come here. The girls name is PETARNED from what I can read on the weathered stone. Why I am drawn this this plot, no idea, but its a very strong feeling I have when I go to Central City.

There is also a new spot that has a small boy plot there with his pictures. If I remember right, he was two when he died.

I’ve got to go back and bring a tape player and see if I can pick anything up, I’m quite phyic and I had a feel like everyone was talk at the same time. We saw the teepee structure, had a small wheel barrel in it.

Well anyway, I really need to know if I was in the Masonic Cemetary

I’ve visited the Knights of Pythias cemetery dozens of times, in addition to the Central City and Catholic cemeteries, and I’ve never gotten any creepy feelings from any of them. I actually feel better after a hike through the cemeteries. I haven’t seen anything paranormal occur up there, neither, but I find I’m always drawn to the Thomas Hooper grave – he can be found in the Knights of Pythias cemetery, first gate, one of several graves surrounded by its own wrought iron fence. I don’t know if it’s because a 120-something year old aspen tree had grown out of his remains, or if it’s because his headstone is the only one that states he was killed, but I can never bring myself to leave the cemetery until I’ve visited his grave. Thomas Hooper was only 22, I wonder what killed him.

I currently live just out side of Central City, the scariest thing I’ve ever seen in the grave yards around here are the complete and total idots who come here and disrespect the dead by breaking stones and racing their 4wheelers and dirt bikes around thru the place, how would you @%$%^#@ feel if someone rode a 4wheeler over your Mommas grave stone? I hope the people who have done this are ashamed, and better yet Haunted by what they’ve done. Shame on all of you.

I was at the masonic cemetary a few days ago and captured a pic of a man standing in the trees and you can see right through him. You could only see the upper part of him. I also captured a cat shadow on the tombstone of two cats buried in the city side of the cemetary. I have to agree…these cemetaries are extremely haunted.

Jasmine says:

November 10, 2011, 6:39 pm

I havent had the chance to explore much further than most into the Central City Cemetary. What ground I did cover was perhaps spoiled due to a sense of euphoria on my part and the many others that were also lurking for something to make their hearts beat faster than normal. Since of course my mother and little sister were right behind me, the slush of snow on the ground deemed a hindrance; I could not pay attention to my surroundings. I did however do a little exploring on my own, but I found myself drawn to the Knights of Pythias: Somewhere along, beneath a white tree that towered tall with a black bird perching over. We did not spend long there, but it was certainly an odd and neutral feeling. That is until we came upon the Catholic Cemetary. We walked along the path to the teepee brick structure. It also had an odd feeling and I could not pry my eyes away from it, nor find the strength to venture inside as my sister had. We traveled all around till, if I can remember correctly, we came to the very back and around to the front on a narrow path we hadn’t taken before. The path was covered in cacti of some sort, but the odor was overwhelming! It was an unbearable stench that appalled us as we left our current position to escape. It was not stationary for it had followed us till we had finally retreated from the cemetary. My Mother had felt the sense of someone following us, but I was sure she was just paranoid as we ducked into the vehicle. Meanwhile, we had taken pictures and video footage of our experiences through the whole area. Upon reviewing, we discovered faces with a purple luminosity and a few Orbs. Unfortunatly, I did not find the Masonic Cemetary and I would be much obliged if anyone would tell me what paths I should take upon my return to the Cemetaries. Also, does anyone know of the structure in ruins across the street that is by the townhomes?

My husband and I went to the Central City Cemetery and the Knights cemetery. Maybe neither of us are sensitive, but we didn’t experience anything. It was late afternoon. Maybe it’d be different later in the day. Instead, I found it peaceful. It’s a type of place, I’d like to be buried in. Much more interesting that the manicured ones.

I go up to this site quite often the knights of Pythis holds many unsetteled spirits and hosts a coven that has been doing Ritual majic every head stone has been bound with penneys and there is evidence of ritual majic all over . there is the power of 3×3 signs carved into all the trees! Ive never seen the lady in black but ive seen many things i can not explain but other than majic! And one gets the feeling its a dark majic as every grave is bound with pennys and mineral stones used in binding ceremonies ive seen pentagrams etched in headstones and even have seen animal bones on a headstone to creamation box open and laying on a grave!
I wasvthere just today and can honestly say have never been in a grave yard so spiritualy active!
