Civil War Romance
This home in central Kentucky was given to a young couple as a wedding gift about 140 years ago. When the groom was called away to serve in the Civil War, his bride told him she would not leave the window until he returned. When the soldier arrived home a few years later, he was told that his wife had become ill and died in her sleep. He closed the window and died in the same room of a broken heart. Today, the shutters of that window cannot be opened. The ghosts are also said to cause many traffic accidents in the area.

sounds almost like the house at the 3-way in garrard county, across the street from BP, on Lexington Rd., coming from Danville

I read this story and I know of the house and i agree with andy that it is at the 3way stop. I pass by it every weekend and that window has been that way for as far back as I can remeber, and I dont ever want to go by it and see its open either.

I was wondering if anybody knew the history of the house across from the B.P. in Garrad County. My mother lives within a mile of this house but I was raised in Central Ky at Midway and I have no knowledge of the house. I do remember that some time back it had some sort of false front or something added to it in brick. If my memory serves me correctly it used to have a frame front rather than brick. I have heard a couple of tales about this house and seeing a face in the window and several other stories. Does anyone have more information.
Thanks,
David

I too live in this area of Ky and have heard several stories about this house. I had heard someone hung themself in that front room and a dangling body could be seen through the window. Also had heard a child died there in a fire and was known to look out the window and spook drivers into causing accidents. I think probably that the most likely conclusion is that headlights shining into the windows at night are a nuisance to the occupants of the home. In regards to remodeling yes the house has been changed to brick it was not always that way. I live in Danville so that is the road we have always traveled to get to Lexington and so forth and that house to the best of my memory used to be white, lacked the chandelier on the front porch but the window has always been shuttered. I too wonder why. Happy Hunting!!

The house # is 9272 (or perhaps 7292). I go to Centre College in Danville, and have heard stories about the house for 8 years (as I’ve had two brothers attend Centre College over those years). A few friends and I have speculated as to the nature of the closed shutters on the first floor, and many of us feel that they are closed due to light either comeing into the house and disturbing the owners (as it is probably a bedroom), or light reflecting back into the eyes of drivier’s eyes…It appears that there is plywood behind the shutters, as the shutters do not entirely cover the window where they meet in the middle…also note that the house is slightly catycornered to the road, and this minor angle may create a dangerous situation with light reflection that would otherwise not occur…Regardless, I do believe that somethign very odd is going on or occuring that is directly responsible for the closing of the shutters (that is, they are obviously closed for a good reason…

if that’s the same house I’m thinking of then there’s more than one story there. I’ve been in there along time ago, when some friends of mine lived there. we were sitting around late one night and the owners were telling us about all the scarry stuff they had seen and heard and all of a sudden the door upstairs slammed shut. the thing is that everyone that was in the house were all in that one room. all except their 2 year old daughter who was asleep in the next room. oh yea! one more thing… the room were the window is closed, there’s blood on the floor, and they’ve scrubbed it up time and time again but every time it rains the blood comes back. true story…i swear.

I’m a native of Danville and know this house. After the Civil War battle of Perryville several wounded soliders were housed here, Camp **** Robinson being nearby. It was an old white frame house for several years until somebody spent mucho money to make this into a brick house several yrs ago. A couple yrs back someone did hit the house causing structural damage to the house, But keep in mind this is a busy intersection. From what I can gather, impatients and demon drink were factors to the accident. No one died. I have asked local ghosthunters about this house and the comment was the haunting was a rumor. I always heard it was haunted by soliders

I don’t know why they would cause other people to have car accidents. I mean if they were so much in love, they should know how it feels to lose some one you love so much,so why would they want to make other people hurt so much. i do believe about they shutters not opening, though.

This house is not located in Jessamine County. It’s in Garrad County. There is a Shell or BP gas station across the street from it next to a traffic light. I’ve heard that when the people who live there left the shutters open, that people would crash into that corner of the house. Something about seeing something in the window. Not sure if true or not. But it’s definitely in Garrad County.

I know this house as well. The story I heard was a mother saw her six year old son run down by a car when he exited the school bus. The people who own the BP across the street live there.
They may have the answer. But, then again…they may like the mystery!

This house sounds like one near me and I think that there should be a picture of this house so that I can tell if it is or not.
