Civil War Romance
This home in central Kentucky was given to a young couple as a wedding gift about 140 years ago. When the groom was called away to serve in the Civil War, his bride told him she would not leave the window until he returned. When the soldier arrived home a few years later, he was told that his wife had become ill and died in her sleep. He closed the window and died in the same room of a broken heart. Today, the shutters of that window cannot be opened. The ghosts are also said to cause many traffic accidents in the area.

My husband and I had heard the rumors surrounding this house, so we actually stopped there several years ago and asked the homeowner about the mysterious window that is covered with shutters. It seems that when remodeling the home, they put a staircase in front of the window and had to then board the window. Nothing spooky about that…

I believe this may be the house beside Camp Nelson Cemetery. The house at the three way at hwys 34 & 27 is a different house. I went on a ghost hunt a few days before Halloween at the Camp Nelson house. I felt absolutely nothing. However, the actual historical Cemetery is another story. I have had my own experiences there.

i have actually been in a car accident at this house!!! i was about 13 and it was me, my dad, brother, and uncle. we were coming back from bowling in danville. me and my brother remember looking at the house cause we heard the stories, and the shutters were open, and we remember seeing someone there, mark my words!!! n then somehow we spun around and our back end went straight into a tree, right beside the bedroom, and the shutters were then shut back! so yes i believe this house to be haunted, i dont know why it causes wrecks, but who knows!!!

I know about the house in question, and it is a red brick two story house that sits directly in front of you at the end of the road by the B.P. There used to be a caution light there, but it has been replaced by a regular traffic light. The car wrecks that were mentioned in other blogs are real. They were NOT caused by people looking at the ghosts, but rather by the road playing tricks on the eyes. The road (in the curve) seems to disappear right in front of you, cusing you to want to swerve, if you do swerve you will be sorry because you will HIT the house.

If you want to see something truly strange, wonderful, and scary all in one go to the mansion, that sits at the end of Erskine Drive in Danville, Ky. My husband took me to that mansion the other night, and it scared the living **** out of me. We went late at night, and he told me to watch the road. As we traveled to the end, there was nothing there. He turned his high beams on in the truck, and BAM the house just appeared out of th blue. It creeped me out so badly that I had chills all over me. We turned around to leave, and I looked back at the house. It was GONE. Go to Erskine Drive, I promise you will love the thrill. It is very creepy cool.

The shutters have been closed for years.Rather than
bricking off the window to hide the stairs. They decided it looked better with the shutters closed. If they closed off the window. It would look like a window should be there. Lived in Danville all my life. I go by the house everyday to work.Sorry know ghosts.I;m 45 the story when i was a kid goes as follows.Every time they opened the
shutters. Someone in the family would die.So they kept them closed. Every so many years a new story is invented

I heard the story and saw the house a minute after that. It’s Garrard County, not Jessamine. The window in question is on the bottom right. What a curiosity peaking ghost story!!!!!!! I hope more people post here about it!

Years ago, probably 20 years, I was coming home to Lexington from Russell Springs. While driving up HWY33 before getting to HWY27 I looked to my left into a large field area and witnessed (to me) what looked like a ghost. There was no fog in the area at that time but that is what it appeared to look like. Just a large clump of fog moving through the pasture. I almost slowed to a stop while watching this. I’ve known about the house with closed shutter across from the BP Station and have to wonder if there was any connection between the two. I have always been afraid to tell this story because I thought people may think I’m nuts, but it happened and it was very, very real!

I agree with the prior posts regarding the house in Garrard County at the three-way intersection and the remodeling . . .
A friend of mine’s family new the owners [I'm not sure if it's former orcurrent] but she said that the family had renovated/remodeled the home and after it was completed, a stairwell was located behind that window and rather than having a view of the stairwell from behind the window, they chose to close the shutters.
I was totally bummed when I heard this, though–haha.

I use to work at the Bp Station across from the house everyone is talkin about. The shutters on the front of the house is closed because that is a closet now. Back during the War it was the hospital for the wounded. The owners of the house have lived there since 1992 till now. They have never seen any paranormal activity there. That can’t be the same house everyone thinks it is!?!?!

The house across from BP is actually in garrard county. I had heard things about the house and asked my sister who lives right down the road about it. She knew the woman that lived there and asked her about the stories and she just laughed. She said historically, the room was actually a slaves room where the shutters are closed and sealed off. I forgot what the reason was but it had nothing to do with ghosts. sorry

My Dad always told me that a young boy was playing in the road and his mom was watching him from the window when he was struck by a horse and buggy. The boy died and is said to haunt people but I believe that it’s just hte light shining from drivers lights.

The story of the little girl/boy being run over is the same one I have always heard. They said that if the shutters were open you would crash or something crazy like that. I just assumed the people who live there keep it boarded up to keep up the history and just the fun of the ghost story. I think the window being boarded up and closed is uglier than any stairwell would be…if they were just closing it because of an ugly staircase, wouldn’t they just use curtains?

This house is in Garrad County right across from lexington ave and 27 cross or meet and across from the BP. I remember as a little girl my mom telling us that it was haunted.. I have never been in it but I am 33 years old and I have yet to see those shutters ever opened.

These stories are true..I’ve heard every one of these stories noumerousof times..!! My Granny lives down the road and she told me why the shutters stay shut..she said that people could see someone in that room just hanging from a rope..Being hung..and it would cause people passing the place to have an accident.!! The shutters are on the bottom right side of the front of the house..!! When you pass the house it’s really freaky..it makes you wonder..It makes you want to open the shutters to see for your self!!!
