Just got back from a business trip, staying in room 307. Awoke in the middle of the night to someone pulling the sheet over my head and then putting his hands on my shoulders and neck, and pushing me into the pillow, as if he wanted to suffocate me. I shrieked into the pillow and the hands and weight vanished. I bolted up, checked the room, chain still on the door...no one there. In the morning, I was so freaked out that I googled "ghost at the Claremont" to see if I was nuts. I got to this page and then my iPad froze up - wouldn't let me close the page or change the page. Had to do a hard restart away from the hotel. Had chills going up and down the hallway. At dinner, I talked to a waiter who was a long time employee, told him not to think I was nuts, but I thought there was a those on the third floor...and he said, don't you mean the fourth floor? I told him my story, and freaked him out, too. So...I went to the front desk and asked for a room change, which they did in an instant after hearing my tale, very accommodating, and never a whiff of "we don't believe you". The ghostie wasn't going hurt me, but a girl needs her sleep. Still a great place to stay, love the old school feel.

So, my buddy, Lucas, and I stayed at the Claremont a few weeks back. We check in to our room and we´re sitting down and all the sudden I smell smoke. I turn and look at Lucas and he´s smoking a cig in the no smoking room! I tell him, Lucas, put that out, ya dummy! He says, o god, I had no idea I was smoking and he proceeded to put it out on the terrace outside. This place really affects you in a weird way...

My son and I stayed there a few nights ago while touring UC Berkeley. To be honest, as we pulled up I said..."Oh my God, this place looks like The Shining!" We were taken to our room, #407. The room had a very oppressive feel to it, the hallway too. I looked at my son and said, "I can feel a spirit here!" My son did his typical..."Yah right MOM!" I knew nothing of the history of the hotel. It was hot so we turned on the air and left for the rest of the day. We came back after dinner and the room was even hotter than before, the air was blowing out heat full blast. My son turned on the TV and then said he couldn't change the channels or the volume...he no longer had control of the TV. I called the front desk and told them that the air wasn't working and they promptly sent up an electrical engineer. My son still couldn't control the TV. I sat in the chair and said out loud, "OK, I know you're here, you know I know you're here so let’s just get along!" The TV changed stations!!! The engineer came and found that the air was stuck in the heating mode, he adjusted it. I still felt the presence of a spirit...can't quite put it to words. The engineer and I were chatting, I was saying how I knew that someone else was in the room, other than the obvious and he concurred. He went on to tell me many stories, one of which I read on this page. He's worked there for 7 + years. He said he'd come back in a few minutes to check to see if the air was still working. When he left it started blowing hot again. The room at this point was freaking me out...I had to move. I knew I'd never get any sleep in this room. I called the front desk and requested a new room. They were so accommodating. They took us down to the 2nd floor...immediately upon exiting the elevator on the 2nd floor I felt better, like the air was easier to breathe. The room we moved to was fine...I can't say I had the best night sleep or that I'd want to stay there again. I can say the service was excellent and the ghost that we experienced wasn't mean but was most definitely present. This experience led me to look up the history of the hotel and the possibility of ghosts. I am definitely certain that we felt the presence of at least one spirit (ghost).

My fiance and I stayed at the beautiful Claremont just this past weekend.
While returning to our 3rd floor room from the spa level, the elevator stopped at every floor until the 1st floor, where someone boarded the lift, seemed an employee, at least a regular, the door just wouldn't close, we speculated she was standing too close, but she stated she always stood there, then an alarm went off and the doors closed and we continued finally after several minutes without any further incident.

My first haunting.... The hotel for me lived up to its history and tale. I experienced a true unbelievable haunting that scared me to silence. Always open to experience a haunting. I went out of my way to put myself in situations that were inviting. And... my room didn't let me down. I experienced a bed shake that was not anything I could ever make up. Oh ya, people don't believe me. Whatever... I know what happened behind my closed door. I am so looking for others that experienced the bed shaking as I did, so I can compare what I felt with others.

I stayed there (on the first floor) in November 2009. A co-worker of mine had a very strange experience our first night there. On the second night, I went to bed and turned the TV off. I had left it on ABC channel 7. I awoke about an hour and a half later to the TV on, and the channel was on PBS (channel 28). All I could surmise was that the six-year old "ghost" was looking to watch Sesame Street... There was nothing threatening or evil about the experience. It was all very "matter of fact."
Leaving tomorrow afternoon for another business trip there again. Stay tuned!

I lived on Domingo Avenue, right across from the Claremont. My boyfriend and I would have drinks in the Claremont lounge from time to time. You definitely get the feeling you are being followed in the halls (on any floor) when you are walking alone. There are lots of cold spots. My husband and I also often spotted (from across the street) weird floating objects in the top window of the tower of the hotel - blurry objects that would float back and forth (sort of like cartoon-type ghosts, to be honest). For the record, our apartment complex on Domingo was also haunted, so we ended up moving. There is something very odd about that hotel and immediate area around it.

I went to the hotel a couple weeks ago and I smelled smoke my cousins said someone was smoking but i ran on every floor but no one was smoking I was staying at the 2 floor. When i slept i heard noises coming from upstairs. i got out of bed and went upstairs i saw the lights flickering. The ice machine room door opened by itsself i went in it and the ice came out by itself i looked to my left and their were stairs i went up the stairs and i saw a pijen the pijon was dead someone had suffacated it i turned around and their was a little girl i ran downstairs to the lobby and asked them if the 3 and 4th floor was haunted they said yes and i checked out and drove back home. I was thinking because the day before i explored the hotel and I went to the mezzine floor and i think it is haunted i want someone to let me know if the m floor is haunted
