Crider Road House
This three story mansion, which burned down at the beginning of 1999, was without ownership for ninety-nine years. Allegedly, a serial killer murdered over 10,000 men and women in this home. Many reported hearing screams and seeing flashing lights and ghosts when driving down Crider Road. The house was so scary that it was never searched; it never will be.

Haha this makes me laugh. I’m glad I came upon this.
Half of the stuff people have posted is correct. I’ve lived in The Colony for 23 yrs, my parent’s for 40. There was a old, white house sitting on top of the hill off crider. There wasn’t anyone killed there. That’s a story your grandparent’s told you to keep you from going out there. We used to drive out there and get high. The house was abandoned for years and unkept. NOONE could have been in that house unless you went in the early 90’s. It was condemned bc the roof fell through partially and the floors were uneasy. There was a fire later that burned some of it down, the city took the rest with a crane. They’re currently building a dump there. Classy, that’s The Colony. I wish there was more to that story, it’d be neat. Fact of the matter, it was an old creepy house that not only you and I noticed to be freaky but they DID film the original tx chain saw massacre there bc the directors found it creepy as well. Enough comments already the truth is apparent.

Don’t forget the filming of an episode of Walker, Texas Ranger at the Old Crider house.

I used to take the bus from Carrollton to TC in high school. I saw that house everyday. Beautiful old house despite the fact that is was leaning, and rotting. TX Chainsaw Massacre was not filmed there, and no serial killer ever lived there. It was empty for years, and burned to the ground shortly before its 100th birthday, in 1999.

My family lived in a haunted house in The Colony for 17 years on Baker Drive. We lived there so long because we couldn’t afford to move. When things became untollerable, we prayed throughout the house. This would put a stop to all the activity for a couple of months and then little by little things would start happening again.
Here are some of the things we experienced: My daughter and husband often heard a lady singing. One cold March evening, we went to the grocery story. Our 15 yr old son stayed home. When we came home he was sitting outside on the front porch in his boxers! When we asked why he was sitting outside freezing he said it was because he kept hearing a woman’s voice calling his name. One night, I saw a young man standing in front of the fridge late one night. I thought it was my son but b4 I could say anything he disappeared. One time my husband and son were sawing wood in the backyard and they both saw a man in an old timey bowler hat pass thru the fence, cross the yard and pass thru the fence on the otherside. My husband was on the couch in the livingroom reading late at nightand he heard a squeaking sound. When he turned to look, he saw a little girl coming toward him pulling a little wooden wagon. He jumped up and ran to our bedroom! He didn’t do any late night reading after that! One of my daughter’s friends spent the night and the next morning she told me she saw a man in a hat walk across the living room and thru the wall. One night I got up to get a drink of water from the kitchen and my little dog followed me. Halfway down the hall I got a weird uneasy feeling. The livingroom/kitchen area looked darker than usual and I decided I didn’t want a drink after all. I turned to go back to my room and I then I heard a woman’s voice somewhere behind me, calling my dog’s name. The dog took a couple of steps toward the direction of the voice, but I scooped him up and ran to my bedroom!
These are just a few of the occurances that took place in that house. I could go on for hours with more stories. Although we experienced a lot of weird things in that house, it was a happy home with good memories. Thank God we finally were able to move in 2006.
I doubt that our house was the only haunted house in The Colony. I think people experience things but just blow it off as their imagination or don’t want people to think they are crazy. The few times I talked about these things people didn’t believe me. I often wonder if the new owners are experiencing the same things.

I’m new to Collin County and found this story, hoping it was true! Are there any REAL haunted houses in the area? Halloween is coming and I’m ready for a good scare!

I lived in TC for 20 years of my life. I also remember Crider Rd as the only road that went South into Carrollton. I loved riding in the car and driving down it as a kid. It had this hill that made your stomach turn. Great memories!
As for the house, it was just about as haunted as the old purple house on 423/Main St. No real activity went on, just an old, creepy house. If anyone has pictures I would love to see them! You can e-mail them to AllieFriday@yahoo.com.

This house did exist. The street did exist. So many people would trespass and sneak into this home, that the road turned into a private driveway, as they built Josey lane next to it for thru traffic. Also-the house burned down because stupid pot smokers who were obsessed with hauntings would go in there and make mischief. It burned down around 2001 or 2002.

The legend of that house is nothing but, for non belivers, but for thoughs that belive in the paranormal, that would be a holy grail of a find if there is any truth to this if ever it is found. I’m a beliver in the paranormal, if there is a place sutch as this, true fear would lye with in as well.

I know people who went into this house, and if it was haunted, it left a lot of people alone. It was just a little 2-shory house built in the late 1800’s. I’ll look up some periodicals here and see if I can find any old history of the families that have lived there. The house doesn’t exist anymore, though. Sorry to disappoint you. It’s about 5 miles from my house.

What a load. Even John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy combined couldn’t have killed 10,000 people and hidden them. Even burning the bodies, cutting them to pieces and throwing them to the wolves wouldn’t have done it. Unless Hitler and his unholies lived on Crider Road with gas chambers I wouldn’t believe this baloney.

the story uses the word “allegedly”. that means nothing’s really been proven. i remember crider road. i vaguely remember the house. i’d heard this legend before. the legends probly started because ppl needed something to talk about and the house probly seemed mysterious enough to earn a rumor like that. they call them urban legends for a reason.
