If you care to know the truth, gather 'round folks --- The name "Crider" comes from the owners of the property directly south, at the corner of Fm.544 and Crider Rd. (Tooth acres) It took a year for the Hamlyn Morgan family to build the Edwardian style home in 1905. This was the Morgan House, and the family called the 3,000 acre ranch and home HAPPSTED. They were some of the earliest settlers in North Central Texas (1856), and part of the original Peter's Colony, which played a key role in the early development of that part of the state, before Dallas even existed. John Henry Morgan was responsible for naming the Hebron community. Hamlyn Morgan also built and owned the bank there (1912). A early photo of the Hamlyn Morgan house is on Google images Hamlyn Morgan House Tor Hill. However, this is not "Tor Hill", which was an earlier and equally impressive home a bit farther east on Hwy.121, different location, now also long gone. The photo is of the house everybody is talking about - No ghosts - only good ol' hard working people, that would have helped anybody out. The house and property were sold to Bum Bright (who also owned the Dallas Cowboys) "Chainsaw Massacre" was not filmed there, But "Walker, Tx. Ranger" did show two very quick outside shots - hardly worth mention. The big house was occupied until nearly the end. The trailers were for some workers to be out there, and help keep an eye on things. When they left, it wasn't long before it burned down on Apr 3, 1999. - There was blood inside! - We had a cool haunted house there for Halloween '98 - just awesome! It was a landmark, so I can imagine a lot of people wondering about its' story, and having fun creating tall tales about it -

First of all let me clarify all of this stuff about the house on Crider Rd. The Road and the house may not exist now but at one time it did. It was the only way to take a short cut to Carrollton. Someone commited that 40 years ago in The Colony...THE COLONY DIDN'T EXIST 40 YEARS AGO. 40 years ago the entire area was farm land. Fields of cotton and maze and other crops. There were a few farm houses that the owners lived in. THERE IS NO HAUNTED HOUSE ANYWHERE IN THE COLONY!!!! There is nothing old enough to have a haunted history. I lived in the area from the very early 60's till 1998 when I moved. The only spooky place was a cemetery that as a child the church I attended would take us kids to on Halloween. The Old house on Crider Road as the story goes says it was abandon for over 90 years. This isn't true because I can remember people living there. It was eventually empty but no ghost stories. No one died unless from old age. My mother new someone that as a child she remembered going by horse drawn carriage from Frisco to this house to have summer parties. There was a movie filmed there, I don't remember it, except I believe it started Don Johnson. And there was a Walker Texas Ranger filmed there. As far as the purple house, it isn't haunted either. It was a house owned by a madam who got made at the Colony when they tried to get ride of her (and her girls) so she painted her house purple to spite them. There was an officer of the law killed there in a failed attempt to raid the place. He was shot by a fellow officer. I'm sorry to hear that the Crider house burned down. To me it was a lovely home that need someone to love. As as far as me knowing the age of the Colony. When I was attending school we were all bused to Lewisville. Age, I'm telling on myself but I am a proud and I mean proud graduate of the 1971 (original) Lewisville High School.

Nope, the road used to connect 544 (west of Josey) to Main St. The house was FABULOUS looking as "haunted houses" go. Straight out of an old scary movie...or Scooby Doo. The street is closed off to the public now and I think they are mining the land for rock or something. Don't know if the house is still there or not.

10,000, hardly. The house did exist, many have entered it, not many will go on record. Red paint had been splashed over some walls, a few years before we decided to enter it, we being my father and I. There was nothing odd about it, or the shed, or any of it, period. One of those Teenaged Rumors strikes again."

A few years ago? Your comment was made in 06, the house burnt down quite a bit more years before than just a few...
