Crying Toddler
This house small house en route to Towanda is said to be haunted by a variety of apparitions. Most people that live there, leave after just a few weeks. Some have reported seeing an elderly man walking to an out-house and an elderly woman hanging clothes out to dry. One family reported having heard their young son tell someone “I do not want to play with you anymore.” Just a few minutes later, it is reported that the toddler ran out of the room crying. Allegedly, his “friend” had made his toy kangaroo spit in his eye and hit him in his face.

I was born and raised in Towanda, there was one place on Main street that was supposed to be haunted by an old Indian, as I was told when little, so would not walk to that area, there are some old homes so this could be true, in fact there could be some hauntings in the old jail…as a lot of things happen there and they also did hangings in that area
Comment by jean | 05.1.2006 | 7:07 pm
I think the whole town of Towanda is haunted.

If people are going to leave comments about how stupid this site is i am wondering what they do with their time.. You would have to visit the site, read the comments, and then post one yourself…. I also noticed that the smart remarks are very similar, looks like sheep following their immature little shephard if you ask me

OK, if you don’t like the website, then go back to your trailer park! As for the story, I spent the first 16 years of my life in Towanda, I never heard of this. I would like to know where this house is located. My twin brother and I used to live on James Street. That house was haunted! The one time I came home from school, and I was the only one home, I went to go upstairs to my room when the light was flashing on and off. I turned around and stayed down stairs until someone came home. My brother and I would hear strange voices and noises coming from the heat vents that connected to the basement. We never told our Dad or evil step-mother, because frankly they wouldn’t have believed us.

I am from Towanda and while I do not know if the above story is true as I have never heard of that particular house or the occurence, I do know that there is a plethora of paranormal activity all over that general area. I have had experiences in almost every home that I have lived in around the Towanda area. Towanda itself means “here is where our great dead lie.” The town was built upon sacred Native American burial grounds.

This was a child with an imaginary friend, young enough to believe in pink elephants and Peter Pan. The only way to know for sure if anything is haunted is to check it out yourself and an affiliated group with documented findings. If your going to do it, do it right to remove any doubt. (And get pictures.)

I for one have never seen her walking all hours of the night Sober and Drunk, but then again I have heard things while walking the road. I would like to see this house if possible…

There is a house, I know of, right next to rt6, I heard the stories, spent time there as a boy, and my cousin (when he was little) used to cry about a kangaroo, being in his room at night. If you would like to know exactly where it is, email me, jonaway75@yahoo.com

Both of my parents grew up in general Towanda area and both say they never heard of a haunted house there. However, there ARE people who believe that the buildings in Mountain Lake, which was once a resort, house spirits. Just for the record, I’m one of them. We used to spend summers there and my brothers and I have ALL seen ghostly forms in the woods. The cabins at Mountain Lake are now private homes and the old pavilion is closed, but I was there last year and talked to a lady who said her homeis haunted by the ghostof a little girl who is supposed to have drowned in the lake. I have pictures of the old Mountainn Lake Hotel takenin the 1930’s if anyone is interesting seeing them. Post a message here and I’ll respond.

I know exactly where this is. It is a very small grey house along on Rt.6, about halfway between Wyalusing and Towanda. If you are traveling from Wyalusing to Towanda it is on your left hand side. My mom knew people that lived there for about three months before becoming so scared they moved. They told her about how their dogs refused to go in the basement, and would sit on the top of the steps crying. Cupboards and doors would open in the house, they would hear disembodied voices, items would move on their own, etc.
Comment by Chris | 11.2.2007 | 9:22 am
When the house along rt/6 was haunted in the 80s there were news paper articles in the Rocket Courier, long with photos, and possibly The Daily Review. I have searched on the net for any articles and found none, I wonder if maybe the news paper offices might have them. Anyone know? or could find out?

Hi my name is Abbie and I love ghosts and ghost stories. I have never been to a haunted house and I would certainly like to go to one. As I was reading the comments I saw that you will get fined for going on the property and I don’t want that to happen. My mom says she will take me to Towanda and to see if anything will happen. If you know where there is more haunted houses that you check out for yourself then PLEASE PLEASE let me know, I would really appreciate it!! Thanks

Hi This is Alisha,I used to live in a truley haunted house. I used to see things that would keep me up for 3 or 4 days.Like my closet glowing. But this story sound like there is a child that used to live in the house. I think that its spirt is trying to get out but is traped in there. And by playing with his “Friend” the child is trying to let people know that he’s there. Then when the boy didn’t want to play, my guess is that it made the child mad and so that’s why he hit the boy with the kangroo. That is my guess.
Comment by Alisha | 01.6.2008 | 1:31 am
I live in a haunted house right now. I have a closet inside a closet. The inside closet opens then my actual closet door opens then there is screaming and then I hear a little boy and a little girl laughing and the parents I think are wispering and I think that there is a dead cat there to. My mom doesn’t believe me. My friend was there when it happens and it does it when I am alone also. I freaks me out baddly.

To give factual information, the “old” county jail in Towanda which is now a Library is indeed haunted. Water faucets turning on to HOTHOT water on their own, the TV in the trustees room used to turn on and off on its own. An old storage room that had one window in the very end of it was lit by a single bulb, that bulb came crashing down and splintered as if THROWN. Told to me by my husband who unfortunatly had to spend some time there as a 18 yr old. Ask some of the guards that worked there, they will atest to the things that happened there. Hangings were done there and the gallows were infact still there in the inner courtyard.
