Devil’s Road
The road is marked by the sign of the devil–666–atop a dead end sign at the end of the street. Allegedly, the grim reaper stands in the middle of the road as cars approach. Just as the car is about to mow him over, the reaper vanishes into a puff of smoke. When the victims return the next day, burn marks tell exactly where the reaper appeared. Also on the road is Haunted Bridge. Legend says that young couple came around the curve too fast and fell of the bridge to a watery grave. It is alleged that if one stops his car on the bridge, he will be guided to safety. Bare footprints have been reported on rainy nights. Many others have also put powdered sugar on their car and reported hand prints after leaving the bridge.

This is another case of some idiot teenager starting a rumor. There are stories like this all over the States and places like Canada and Mexico. I believe it to be totally fradulent.

I am from Monmouth, and this story is bunk. Every five years or so a new story is created about the bridge. The scariest thing about the bridge is that teenagers drink booze and drive there. Drinking and driving is stupid and scary.

Oh, and another thing. As I stated earlier, I am from Monmouth, went to hich school there, and called it my home until after college. The whole haunted bridge thing (bogus) was created when the old haunted barn was burned to the ground by a farmer. There was an old barn (just up the hill from the very unhaunted bridge) called “Buffords Barn”. High school students including myself would try to convince chicks to drive out there with us to they would be come scared and hopefully horney. We even stashed friends out there, would go into town to pick up chicks and drive them out there to have our friends scare them. Everyone used to go out there. Eventually the barn was a pile of junk and the farmer burned it down to make space for crops. Since then, teens needed a new scary thing so they came up with the whole bridge thing.

I don’t mean to burst anyone’s bubble, but several intersections of streets and railroads that supposedly have “guardian ghosts” that push you out of harm’s way have been debunked. First of all, the road leading to the tracks is usually on a downhill incline, but since the railroads sit higher it gives the illusion that you are going uphill. Second, the oil from your fingers and hand after shutting your trunk doesn’t get washed off by going through a car wash – you have to take a towel with soap and rub them off.
My advice – if you’re going to try to put baby powder on your trunk to see the prints, make sure you wipe off any residual prints of your own or anyone who has used your trunk first.
I do believe paranormal events can happen, but I think 9 times out of 10 there is a non-paranormal explanation for them.
