Don't be afraid to wander the halls of the different floors but be prepared to feel a bit "lost." The layout is a bit maze-like which can certainly add to it's haunted feel. Open random doors to see old parts of the building that were never completely renovated; there's something to be said for discovering an old room made of crumbling brick walls just beyond a wall of sheet rock (obviously you should make sure these aren't emergency exits with alarms that will sound) If you feel like some exercise, climb the stairwells in the old part of the building to revel in views from the windows that you wouldn't otherwise notice from the outside...Just a few tips from a recent Driskill exploration

I stayed at the Driskill with 3 other friends when we were in Austin for a convention. There are definately some strange things going on there! The water would shut off for no apparent reason. When we rode the elevator a few times it would skip the floor that we had pushed the button on and take us to different floors. We also saw (yes SAW) a man walking around late one night - then we saw his picture hanging up and we were told it was his ghost that others have also seen. Strange but so TRUE!

We can only hope Eddie (above) stays in the womans room and shoots himself for being a dreamer and saying he ever got any from anyone.

The Driskill will give tours of the Hotel and tell you about the stories, but will not let anyone run around at night trying to be ghost hunters.

I have often walked in to view and dine at the Driskill with my wife and guests visiting from out of Austin. The place is really fantastic. I have not experienced anything odd at the Driskill myself however, a good freind of my son was employed there during the early 1990's while both were working their way through college. He shared the story of his experinece that while working a "graveyard" shift the late night partying and festivities that goes on at 6th Street (where the hotel is located and for which 6th Street is popular) had come to a close. With the exception of typical late stragglers, late Saturday nite life was over. It was about 3:30 in the morning. My son's friend was standing in the lobby adjacent to main entrance door facing 6th Street. All was quiet inside. The dining area that also faces 6th Street was closed. The elevators were silent. The entire hotel within his hearing and vision was motionless and quiet. It was a typical quite 3:30AM time period where everyone had gone to sleep. While standing there alone, he felt a three quick and successive taps come from behind his right shoulder. Thinking nothing of it, he turned around expecting a guest and began asking if he could be of help. To his amazement, there was no one there. His speech stopped in mid sentence and he just stood there for a while trying to understand what had happened. He explained that the taps were gentle yet profound and genuinely felt. The taps, he said, were not muscle spams or nerve twitches. In addition, he also explained that he smelled the fragrence of a woman's perfume that dessipitated almost immeidately after the encounter. He explained that he felt chills run up and down his spine and neck and was essentially "creeped" out from the experience.

He explained that he had often heard of ghostly encounters and experiences from other staffers at the Driskill but never believed them until having had that experience himself.

Well me and a few of my friends are going to austin this summer for a get away trip. And im in charge of finding a place to stay and whatnot so i was wondering if anyone knew the nightly rates and a few of the details of the hotel itself. Figured a haunted hotel would be a great way to lighten up the mood and make things interesting.

As we introduced ourselves, we asked him if he knew anything about the hauntings. He told us of his only experience. The water turned on by itself. He simply turned it off and left the room. He also told of another woman who had worked at the Driskoll and claimed to have a 6th sence.
