Eastholme in the Rockies

07.23.2005 | 7:39 am | Cascade, Colorado, United States

In this quaint bed and breakfast in the heart of the Rocky Mountains lives a female ghost whose identity is unknown. She has been heard on the third floor whispering, “Grace?,” tickling the piano keys, and walking throughout the building. She has been seen in a red satin dress standing on the balcony, and in the foyer wearing a long dark dress.

  1. Red dress and dark dress? Now that’s a real first!Female ghosts usually wear long, white ones. No,seriously i believe in ghosts, but those who tell fake stories usually describe a ghost wearing white.I guess that story is true, then.

  3. Question: Why in all of the Colorado Haunted listings isnt The Stanley Hotel listed??? I was there, and witnessed first hand the “unexplained” happenings. I also seen that it was listed as the WORLDS top 10 haunted places. So i was just wondering if anyone knew why it isnt on this site??? thanks.

  5. Hello-I am a Colorado native (not too many of us left!) I too have had a couple of experiences at the Stanley Hotel. I worked for a short time at the local newspaper and had to take some advertising info over to the manager at the Stanley. As I walked from the parking lot to the side building (in front of the main hotel entrance) I heard the most beautiful piano music being played. As I have taken the tour years ago I knew that Mrs. Stanley had been known to sit down at her old piano and play. As I walked across the property-dropped off my info then came back to the main front porch. I just stood there enjoying the music. A oriental man was also standing there-I thought also listening to the music-so I commented on the beautiful song. He looked at me strange and said he didn’t hear any music at all. I took this as a little gift or a “hello” from Mrs. Stanley.
The tour I mention that I took years ago-really cool! They take you from the deep dark basement to the top floor where it is said that most of the activity takes place. I was standing toward the back of the group on the top floor when the guide was explaining that back in the day the 3rd floor was used for the nannies and children. In the hallway about every 15 ft are ladders that go up to the attic. As I was standing there listening-I leaned over and looked up the ladder. A young girl with long dark braids looked down at me and smiled.

  9. I heard that the third floor was the most haunted and I also heard there is a spirit of an Irishman that Stanley bought the land from for the hotel that haunts the hotel. His picture can be seen somewhere in the hotel.

  10. That ghost story about the lady is somewhat lame. I hope she doesn’t come after me!

  11. My sixteen birthday is coming. Maybe I should go there and sleep on the third floor of the hotel. I might get too scared, but I’ll get my mom to comfort me.
