There was only one woman executed during the civil war era. Mary Surrat was hanged for owning the boarding house where Booth and others plotted against President Lincoln. All documentation of the era has NO references to any other woman executed during the era particularly in Boston or anywhere in the Union. Even know female spys were placed in confinement.

i just went to goerges island today and i had a sixth grade field trip from the Murphy K-8 6th grade only when we walk the tunnel it was pitch black everybody was screaming the heads off but it was 17 of us who actually went through the whole thing but then the yelling people went out cause it was pitch black there was only 10 person in front of me. my friend was behind me and there was like 7 when we were almost at the end like the middle of the tunnel i saw a black shadow but no light yet but the shadow had white stuff around the figure but when i close my eyes i walk 1 feat or 2 and open my eyes then i saw light i was like wth. and also the kid in front of me was like 1 feet from me but when the part i saw the figure the kid was like 10 feet away from me he was not running cause if he was running the water will be like a slpash but no splash i ran so fast and my friend behind me saw me that i was like 10 feet away from him so he ran. we went back and this time i didnt see it was toooo loud the people wont just shut up the ranger was mad at us lol but not alot

Back in the early fifties my family used to go to Georges Island to hang out. No one ever came aside from us, year after year. One day my brothers left me alone and ran through one of the tunnels. I was too afraid to go in because they were very dark and very long. I was waiting outside in the sunlight when I watched the long grass bend as though someone was walking toward me, I was terrified being only 7 years old and boy did I run into the tunnel. As I remember we were told by my father not to go down into the lower areas as the wood was rotten, yeah we did and there were crowds of confederate soldiers depicted on wall murals but in the corner was a shadow figure which initially I thought to be part of the painting until it faded away. Lastly I was saved by something, I use to run the walls around the fort along the break water and one day I slipped on the sea gull poop and slid over the wall just hanging by my fingers. I felt something pull on my upper arm until I was again on the top of the wall. I was not afraid and frankly I did not even think again about it until I explain to my mother all the sea gull poop on my shirt and shorts.
I long to go back but I hear now its a touristy place and would not have the peace and quiet it held for us all those years ago.

It is said that a group of people boated to Georges Island late one night. They planned to enter Fort Warren after the island closed (sunset). As they entered the main portal a group of guards ordered them to halt. Some of the intruders ran back to the boat. The others never made it. They were found the next morning hanged from the trees in the bastion courtyard. The bodies were removed and reported as drowned.
The guards, as reported, had beards and were wearing civil war era uniforms. (The event happened in late 1970s) Their guns were long and had bayonets attached. Although they appeared human they had no eyes, just black holes.
There were no rangers assigned there and the caretaker was off the island for a family emergency. Recently a boat was found tied to the dock one early morning. No one was ever found on the island and the registered boat owners were never found.

I was there a few years ago on a field trip having no idea of the lady in black story, we found one of the rooms had a very strong old fashioned perfume smell, only later did we hear the story

Hello Allen, I am a paranormal researcher with over 20 years of experience. I also have taken many photos with orbs within them. However, please use some caution when documenting orbs. Although I also get very excited to see them in my photos we must ensure we analyze each photo very carefully. 99.9% percent of the time orbs are normal moister, dust or bugs orbs. Ok and how do I know this? I have analyzed hundreds of orb photos and I clearly understand what lighting and camera flash will do to photos. Allen lets take the photo that you took at Ft Warren. Were you moving around inside, maybe kicking up dust and moving the air around then took the photo. I’m going to guess the question is yes. So what happened, a digital camera flash sends out an IR beam for auto focus, lighting adjustments and distance of the object.Then that beam sends the information back to the camera and than the photo is taken. So now the first thing the camera identifies within the frame. It will focus on that object, over expose that object making it seem like it’s glowing (orb). These orbs are also very easy to identify. Try and use your computer software or photo edit program and try and blow that photo up. You will notice that the orb now looks like a series of rings like if you just cut a tree down and counted the rings. This orb will look just like those rings but glowing and have a misty look apperance.(Not a Ghost) Now if the orb is solid, colored or has a oblong shape to it. Than that’s paranormal and more interesting to look at and worth talking about. However still do not be scared because if this is the case than most likely it’s residual energy your capturing and not intelligent spirit. Residual energy is like a tape recorder making the same movements over and over with no reaction. Intelligent energy recognizes you and interacts with you. This would be very rare and hard to capture without the right equipment.

I just read through all of the posts. Some of them sound pretty creepy, others sound bogus.
I was at Fort Warren today with my 3.5 year old daughter. It was a beautiful sunny day. I did not go into the fort itself, since I was with her. I did, however, go through all of the bunkers and various “rooms” that were around the fort.
One of those “rooms” was pitch black. I did not have a flashlight, so keeping my daughter on the steps in the light, I stepped into the darkness and took a picture.
Holy Cow was I shocked. The picture had 2 large orbs, and like 3 small ones. I immediately took another picture, then got out of there. The second picture had several orbs too. In fact, one orb was very large, and was only slightly higher than the big orb from the last picture – as if it was floating upwards.
About 40 minutes later, I wanted to get a few more pics, so I went back down and took three more pictures. One pic had nothing, and the other two have a few very small orbs in the corners of the room.
Oh…each orb was in the back of the room, which is about 10-15 feet away from the doorway where I was.
I am totally freaked out. I have no plans on going back there anytime soon.

Hello, can you please inform me where you got your information about where the dress came from. I can not find that information anywhere in documents of Fort Warren. The information I read was 2 different claims. The first being that the dress was pulled from a mess hall curtain and the other was that someone found and old black robe. Thanks

I grew up in Lynn, Ma. and in the early 70′s my school took us for a day trip to George’s Island. at one point I got lost from the group. I found myself in a room with a concrete slab in the dirt floor. I heard a voice and when I turned around I saw a woman in a long white dress floating over the slab in the floor. when some kids came in looking for me she dropped down into the slab.. I have never forgotten this ever! I never saw a woman in black. funny at that time no one would believe me! I would love to go back now knowing what I know and find her..
