Friendly Haunt

07.23.2005 | 12:23 pm | Albany, Georgia, United States

This house is haunted by an older, grizzly looking gentleman. However, the apparition is not a mean one; he protects residents of the house and even saved one woman from an abusive boyfriend. The man checks in on the bedrooms of the residents at night before returning to his own room — the back bathroom.

  4. Regarding the bathroom…remember, indoor plumbing has not really been around all that long. My father, who is only 50 now, can remember families when he was growing up who had to use an outhouse and drew their water from outdoor hand pumps. The bathroom this spirit resides in was probably a bedroom, den, sitting room, etc., before the plumbing was installed.

I didn’t think anything exciting happened here. So yeah, I would realy appreciate it myself if someone could point me in the direction of Mr. Friendly ghost.

Oh, and to the paranormal researcher…go check out Seven Churches (Hardup Road). I’m so sick of hearing stories, but never finding anything but crack heads and dirty needles out there. I am curious to see what the real deal is. I would also care to know what else there is in south Georgia that you are planning on investigating. I’m very interested.

  45. Hey where is this house in Albany? I lived there until I was 23 and lived in a house that was haunted but by an older woman. Her name was Bertha and she use to do all sorts of things to us when I lived there. She would turn the bathroom water on in the middle of the night, make chairs move around and open doors. Just all sorts of stuff. Never hurt us.
But I’m just wondering where this one you are talking about is? Ours was on the North side of Albany toward Leesburg.

  53. When I was 5 or 6, we lived in a two story house on Clifton Road in Atlanta. The upstairs remained vacant and I would play up there. One day while playing alone up there, two figures came out of the fireplace and tried to grab me, telling me to come inside with them. I ran and got away. Needless to say, I never, ever, forgot and never went up there again. I grew up to become a police officer in that city. One day, I shared the story with the inhabitants. It wasn’t a good idea!

  54. This house sounds very interesting. I live near historic Marietta,Georgia and the Kennesaw National Battlefield. I was wondering if any of you paranormal investigators have been there? Have you uncovered any paranormal activity there? There also is a huge cemetary for the civil war dead there as well. Next to it, a large cemetary. It covers several acres. A local t.v. station did a story on paranormal of this cemetary not long ago. If you haven’t, have you thought of going there?

  59. I posted this story originally. I believe that the ghost was actually that of my grandfather. I am the one who was protected from a boyfriend. Also, he didn’t live in the bathroom (my post was reworded). What I stated was that sometimes when everyone was in the living room you could hear him walk down the hall and close the door to the back bathroom.

Also, no, I will not be revealing this location other than the fact that it is in east Albany and not up by Leesburg. Closer to Sylvester than Leesburg. This is a private residence, not a hotel. My family no longer owns this house so I do not know if the people who live there would appreciate random people knocking on their door asking about the ghost.

  60. We live in Albany Georgia, and I have never heard of that Friendly Ghost, but I sure would like to know where the house is. We did however live in a house over on first Avenue that I swear is haunted. We lived there for several months and the kids and I finally moved out. My husband stayed there until the lease was up and he did not feel the feelings I and the children felt. It was sort of a feeling like you were being watched from behind. One night, my daughter got up in the middle of the night and thought my husband was in the kitchen and so she said “Daddy is that you?” and it went poof, vanished. My son, who was two at the time kept crying and saying “the man, the man!” and would not want to sleep in his room which used to be a porch.
My son says, “I don’t remember living there because I was so little, but I believe my mother’s stories. I do wonder if I might be a medium of sorts though, because If I did not feel the man there, then why would I not sleep in my room and why was I crying and saying “the man”?”

  72. Whoa. Some friendly paranormal activity going on. That’s something. From all the cases I’ve read, this one was one of my interest. A friendly ghost roaming on about in his own space. Maybe the house was rebuilt and the bathroom was the spot where he probably spent his time in. : )

Also to the family who claims the ghost to be their grandfather. Since you are not living there any longer, it would be better for you all to become friends with the new owners, and visit the house from time to time. The spirit could grow alone and could become agressive. Consider in visiting the place. Even if it’s one time a month or year because maybe the only thing the ghost looked up to was his family~!
    : )
Please consider my thought. I’m sure he will be very happy~! : D
