There is another story that goes along with this and that is that if you park in between 2 trees near this church, turn your car off, and wait for the light to go under your car you will not be able to start your car after the light has passed thru it.

I just wanted to say that if people are going to tell a story….Tell it right. I lived in Beaufort,SC for 19 years and have researched the story and been there PLENTY of times. First of all..It is called Frogmore. The story behind the light is of a bus that crashed years ago and had only one headlight. I have seen the light once. There is a tree you park by to watch for it…But no church. Who told these stories???

I have been going to Frogmore to look for the Light at Lands End since the 1970’s. I have lived all my life in this area. First off I have been there many, many times and I have only seen the light once. There were four of us in the car and we all saw this thing. People try to explain it off as swamp gas or car lights but it is neither. You will know with out a doubt when you see the actual light.

Glad to see some fellow Beaufortonians. I wanted to know if anyone has seen anything else besides the light? Some friends and I were at the Old Fort and saw something one night. I won’t mention unless someone else can tell me what they saw. If it is the same thing would love to swap stories.

Hi, I am fasinated by the light of frogmore and my friend and I went out there last night to see it. We could not find exactly where to park though. We went to the old ruins there and parked and got interesting pictures but went up and down the street looking for the tree and there were alot of them. Can someone help me out with which tree and exactly where to go? Thanks in advance

Okay, why was the man hanged and THEN decapitated? Was his head cut off by the executioner because his neck was so strong he couldn’t be hanged? Or maybe he was obese and as soon as he was hanged, his head was instantly torn off because of the immense weight of his body!

I grew up near Frogmore and have heard many stories about “the light” I’ve never seen anything myself, but to those of you who have-congratulations-you’ve been blessed. To everyone else who continues to search, give it a rest what’s meant to be will be you can’t get water from a rock so quit trying. If infact there are restless souls wandering around in this world, maybe they just want people to leave them alone, some things are just better left alone.

you are all dumb im a medium and been there to investigate, its said that a young couple that where in loves parents hated eachother so the young couple would go up there and bring one flashlight the young lady would shine her flashlight and wait for the young man to shine back then with the light still on he would run to her. But the young girls father found out one night and hung the young man with the flashlight still on and in his hand and if you go at exactly the right time you can see the light running to you because he thinks you are his young lover

How the FRICK could he think you were his lover if it’s pitch black? He wouldn’t know to run to you unless you have a flashlight on, too. I’m from beaufort…lived there for 20+ years. Heard lots of stories on what the light might be. Still dont know what it is. My parents took me to see it when I was little and I went several more times when I was older. It DOES exist and it is an adrenaline rush to chase it. There’s an old oak that hangs over the Lands End Road and a reflector sign right in front of it (yellow with 3 black slashes on it). Its damn near to the end of that road, but its the only tree that has the sign in front of it and its on the left side of the road. You park in front of the tree and turn everything off and wait. It is pitch BLACK out there. Some nights it doesnt appear. Every time we went out for it and it appeared, we would chase it and never catch it. It would disappear. Its scary but fun with a carload of friends.

I myself am from Frogmore. My grandmother who has lived there for over 70 years, says the story is a confederate soldier was hanged on the tree. Because of the rope, it snapped as soon as he was dropped. So when you see his light, he is looking for his head….. But everyone has their own stories…Does anyone know about the Jacksonboro light? Thanks

I have been stationed at Beaufort Air Station for over 3 yrs now. The first time I went to see the light nothing happened. But the second time I went out there with my buddy and we waited for about 3 hours and during that time, local teenagers were messing around with us they kept driving by with their headlight taped over. Then we saw it again thinking it was just another prank but it kept coming closer and there was no car attached! my buddy got so freaked out he turned on his vehicle and booked out of there. My wife went with her friends and actually got footage of the light. All i need to do is find a way to convert it on the internet. if anyone is interested let me know

Just a note, It is called the Frogmore Light. It is Land’s End in Frogmore, now called St. Helena. This is South Carolina. You folks that live here should know the church is on the right not far (about a half mile) from from the hanging tree….big oak hanging over the road on the left….old sunken cemetery in the woods same side as the tree…. Yes, I’ve seen the light. The church has it’s own story. There are stories about weird problems with your car not starting and your radio suddenly coming on or playing unusal music. Hasn’t happened to me, but has to members of my family. Many other weird things on this road as well. Lots of witchcraft and voodoo in the area. I haven’t been out there in years and I hear they are developing the area, so some things could have changed, but that’s the way it was last time I went. I have lots of stories about what we all did out there in search of the light and what happened. I’ve been to the fort a bunch of times too, but I never saw anything spooky there. You can see a wreck at low tide from the beach…unless they’ve done something with it.

To Anne,

What is the stories on the church? I would like to go to this place. How would i get there from N. Myrtle Beach, SC?

Anne says:

Hello Angela, I don’t remember the details of the stories about the church. Something about a light reflecting in the window but there was no light to reflect. I’ve not witnessed it either. It might be in the book about Beaufort Ghosts. I don’t remember the name but I bought it for my mother from The Beaufort Bookstore. We use to have a haunted tour of downtown Beaufort, it didn’t take you to Land’s End, but it did give you a tour of the Point, either on foot or carriage…I’d check with the Chamber of Commerce to see if we still do that and what it includes. If I were you, I’d check out MapQuest or something for directions. I’d think you would just hop on 95 and hop off at the Beaufort exit and follow the signs. For Land’s End, I’d stay on 21 passing through the islands until you get to Land’s End Road and follow it down. Can’t tell you how far, it’s been a while. It’s a pretty straight stretch of road.
