Gap Road
During the Tulsa Race Riots, many African Americans were hanged here. It is said that if one takes his car to this road and put its in neutral, it will climb the hill. It is said that the people hanged during the riots are the force pushing the car.

Wow! Haven’t wrote on this website in awhile, but I have to say, some of you folks need to stop getting drunk before visiting.
Tomeka….lighten up a little, and get over yourself. No one is attacking you. At least there are still large number of Americans of the African descent, who still exist.
Whites nearly wiped out an entire race of Indians, when they took over this territory that you live on, so get a hold of yourself. By the way, you live on Indian land. Not Black land.
This website is for one thing.
To honor the fallen men, who were brutally murdered on this road, and to share our own personal, sometimes spiritual experiences on this road.
We don’t politically posture here, and stick our hands out like we are owed something.

As others have said, catman and the Labadie place NE of B’ville are the two other primary legends. Gap is S of town. These tales go back to at least the ’60′s.
One of the spookiest places in the county is where a densely wooded hill rising some 200′ from the rusty Caney river bridge could be home to about anything in your imagination. Do not change a tire here at night. Go north of this bridge to a tiny creekbed bridge where catman supposedly stalks some nights. A little farther N is the Labadie place, although I heard partiers burned it down except for a chimney. However, there is still a small family cemetary right next to the road surrounded by a dilapidated wrought iron fence. Keep going N to the highway 10 intersection and there is the entrance to the Mullendore ranch. An infamous unsolved murder occurred there in 1970 involving wealth, Chub Anderson and mafia ties.

I have never been to any of these haunted places but would love to go check them out if someone would be kind enough to give better directions. I live here in Bartlesville,Ok. & have seen Gap Road but do you go East or West from Hwy. 75 or is it better to go Hwy.123 ? How many miles down is it? Etc. Will someone please tell me as I would love to go. As for the other haunted places we will have to wait awhile due to no gas money.

Carol S, I made a mistake (two, actually…misspelled cemetery). Should read “NW” of town, not NE. You can get there by taking the west route toward Hulah lake also, but I think directions from hwy 75 might be simpler. Turn west off 75 at Copan, go across the lake dam and follow hwy 10 for roughly six miles past the dam until you see the big fenced in “Mullendore Cross Bell Ranch” insignia erected on the right. You want to turn left here on the gravel road and go south. Roughly one mile south and to the left (east) was the old Labadie place and the tiny cemetery, which is very difficult to see after dark unless you know where to look. About a mile further is the dry creekbed of catman noteriety (actually, the entire area). The last I saw it was covered with typical teenage spray painted satanic cliches and “(insert-2nd-rate-metal-band-here) rules” graffiti. Then, less than two more miles, you will come to a fork in the road. Go left to get back to the base of Copan dam, or go right and across the very spooky Caney river bridge and another right at the next fork to go around the wooded large hill and it will deliver you back to hwy 10 near Whipporwill Point and Bowring and you can take that route back to town. The hill and bridge are the eeriest place as far as I’m concerned. I travelled that road often between 1970-2000 and it’s fun at night…unless you have car trouble! According to Google Earth, the hill only rises 150′, not 200′ as I stated previously. Check the rearview often if you go at night. Could be a hungry bigfoot or a vengeful spirit gaining!

I used to go there with my wife back in the day. It’s just an illusion but like the other guy said, when you turn your lights off it looks like you roll up hill. The glowing eyes thing running out of the woods isn’t on Gap Road, it’s in Copan and they’re talking about Cat Man who lives at the Laberty house. (spelling?) Or what’s left of it. Been there a million times with the wife too…nothing ever ate us.

well I didn’t see that Bob had already covered that before i posted. Bob you’re missing part of the directions which include avoiding the old man who lives down the road to the right from the gate leading to the old homestead. Once you get across that you have to walk the half mile up what’s left of the drive way to get to the foundation of the house along with the barn and the servant’s quarters. Cat Man is supposed to kick *** up there too. I have to admit that the only thing that ever scared us up there was nature and too much beer but I’ll tell you what, on a full moon when you come out of the tree line that old house is pretty wicked.

I’ve lived in the Bartlesville area almost my whole life and have been to “Gravity Hill” on Gap RD many different times all with the same result, the car rolls. The story I was told was that blacks were hanged in the trees on that road that used to be called Ni**er Gap Road for that reason, I have never used powder or seen any “red glowing eyes” but I have heard that it is an optical illusion that the object (be it car or coke can) is actually rolling down but looks as though it’s rolling up.
As for Cry Baby Bridge, Labadie mansion, and Cat Man Bridge, I’ve been to the Labadie Mansion twice and I get creepy vibes every time. The friend that always drags me out there, since I have no idea how to get there on my own, told me that Cry Baby Bridge is right by the mansion and as your leaving the mansion you will sometimes see the “cat man” and I swear I did once. She also has told many stories about standing by the house and feeling like she was on fire and having to cleanse her house because she brought a ghost home.
Both sites are definitely cool spots to check out, if you can find them.
