Ghost Light Road
A man was once driving down this road when he crashed and was subsequently decapitated. If one drives on this road at about five miles an hour, a white light will approach the car and then hover above it.

Its an illusion. We (bunch of us from Trinity c/o ‘92-’93) used to go there almost every weekend to scare the bejeezus outta someone. It is because its is a perfectly straight dirt road and at the end of it is a road that is also perfectly straight and long and curves just as It would intersect the dirt road. So it looks like a light is comming at you for a long time then it suddenly disappears. Then occasionally a red tail light will do the same (people going the opposite direction on the road). Plus its reaaaallly long which due to jax being so flat you can see forever so you get all sorts of illusions from the light being so far away you can hardly see it. Ive drove up and down that road dozens of times, Guaranteed to see the light (since theres guaranteed to be a car going down that road at some point) It was the best spot for “parking”. I’m pretty sure my daughter was conceived there
. Not too far away is a cool black church in the town of Switzerland. It wasnt haunted either but we told everyone it was and freaked out alot of people there too.

if you look up this location on google maps, there is a red orb and a white line of light in the picture. probably a trick of the light, but strange all the same. follow greenbriar to the edge, where it goes black, and face south-southwest.

I’ve been down Greenbriar/210 probably a good 3 or 4 dozen times, and have been spooked at times because it is a very, very, long and straight road, and late at night there aren’t any other vehicles around, simply woods.
The road of the old insane asylum, which is now a Christian Retreat for the mentally handicapped, is about 200 yards or so before (if you’re coming from Roberts, otherwise if you’re coming from 95 it’s after the light on the right) the light to turn onto SR-210 West. There’s a mailbox right at the road, and if you’re coming from 95, it’s just after a yellow road sign.. You can’t miss it, it’s a pretty wide dirt road. It is VERY freaky at night, and if you turn your lights off it is INSANELY Dark.
About a quarter mile down, you can see the buildings of the retreat, and there’s a fork in the road where the left side is blocked off with a metal chain.
I just went down this road last night for the first time, and when we got to the end, I didn’t know where I was going so I went right instead of turning around in the fork in the road to the left.. Well my friend told me to stop immediately before we went onto the premises, and I did. So we were closer than he’d ever been before, and we looked and two of the buildings still had lights on. One of the windows in a building was illuminated with a solid, bright red color, and we saw shadows moving inside the building (it’s still an active retreat). While it wasn’t a ghost, it’s still extremely freaky to be down that road at night, especially when you see something like a red window and figures inside… We got the hell out of there not 15 seconds after seeing that. It’s definitely a worthwhile trip to make if you live in the area.

I live in Mandarin, and me and my friends are always looking for some creepy roads or haunted places to look at. I found out about this “ghost light road” and would really like to go check it out. I’ve heard that since all of the “sightings” the road has changed and you no longer see the light, but I would still like to go. What would be the best way to get there from Mandarin? Also, if there are any creepy old churches or dark long roads that you have found on your own personal trips..please let me know!

The story is as follows.A man escaped a mental institution or a prison not sure which one back than n the day. He took one of the drs and or nurses motorcycle and tryed to escape. he lost control of the boke and he ran into barb wire or something to that affect and was decapitated. when you go down the road, the light is at the end of the road. you keep looking and its getting closer and closer and closer.before you know it goes right through your car and you see it behind you. and it keeps going this way back and forth b/c the dead guy is trying to find his way off this road. anyway thats what i heard. i grew up in jacksonville. went out there two or three times. last time i went out there it wasnt pretty. a bunch of teenagers who lived in the area were either drunk or high and decided to go scare some of us kids that came out there. they had a big truck with big wheels and a light looked like it was lights on top of a police car. finally they cornered us on the road knocked us into a ditch. somehow we got out and drove off to call the cops. to this day i really dont believe these guys would have let us go. cause when we got out of the ditch they ended up getting stuck on tht dirt road side ways. we never went back there again

OK, let me just state this now, I have lived in Jacksonville my entire life, and when I was a teenager, I would try to find little things like this and see if they were real or not, this one, by far, is WAY OFF. it was the light from cars turning at 210 and Greenbrier that people would see, not some orb or ghoul or whatever you want to think. They have since then fixed that crooked turn-off and there hasn’t been anything since. So sorry guys, this ones busted.

ghost light road has allready been debunked. there is a phenomina where a treffic light looks like it is coming towards you and in all reality it isnt. I have been down this road many times and have even went to school near the road and have had plenty of expiriances with this ord of light, and have read debunking reveiws and have debunked the truth myself. The only thing i cant explain is a light in my rear veiw mirror that i could not see behind me when i turned my head, this also might be a natural phenomina or a super natural phenomina, its your choice to decide.

I really hope you were patient and vigilant enough to make it past all those posts from 3 years ago of the people trying to start what sounded more like a ghost hunter swingers club then staying on the topic all of us searched for to arrive at this site in the first place. If you did, then congrats because no, you’re not crazy, what you saw years ago on that God forsaken road really did happen. The dirt roads in Florida are being paved over all the time, everyday. Unfortunatly, this, along with woods being turned into subdivisions, could be altering or extinguishing ghosts/lost spirits claimed haunting grounds. I’m afraid Ghost Light Rd/Greenbriar may not be an exception, but a victim. It seems like from what I read in more current posts that anyone going to try and see the headless motorcycle man (sounds funny doesn’t it!) today may be years to late. But the ones who were lucky enough to experience it years ago, well, it’s just something we’ll never ever forget. The story told to me was a man escaped one night from the mental hospital, stole a motorcycle, drove through barb wire and was decapitated. He rides his motorcycle up and down the road looking for his head. Whatever. Who knows right? The origin didn’t really matter to me, still doesn’t. What does matter is what I saw with my own, sane, 20/20 vision, husband with 2 kids, masters degree in education eyes that night on July 4th weekend 1995. My roommate and I drove our friend who was born and raised in Jacksonville home for the holiday from college to visit her folks. That night she said do you want to go see a ghost? Her folks started laughing and said be prepared to freak out!! Once again, whatever, especially when on the way she said it doesn’t happen every night. So my expectations were very low to begin with. When we got to the dirt road, she said turn here so we were facing east. It was SO dark outside and I just couldn’t believe, for as long as the road was, how odd it was that we were the only ones on it. I understand that that’s not the case today. Apparently there’s much more traffic on the road now. However that night, that night we were totally isolated. I remember her saying to stop the car and flash our lights. I remember thinking, yeah flash our lights so somebody down the road knows that we’re here, can walk out of the woods, swing a Coleman lantern around and then turn it off. That’ll be our “ghost.” We sat there for awhile. Easily 30min and nothing. Then right when we decided to give up, you guessed it, a single headlight appeared in the distance. Not like an on/off switch, but more like turning on a white flourescent lightbulb, how it kinda stutters and then it’s on. To big to be a Coleman, but definatly big enough to be the size of a motorcycle headlight shining right at us from the opposite side of the road on the horizon what looked like a half mile away. I read what people put about if lights are seen, then it’s traffic coming from around a bend near SR 201. Got it, however, here’s the twist!!!! My roomate fired up the car, I thought we just saw what we came to see and were leaving, but instead he started driving toward it, and people I swear on my kids that it started driving toward us!!! I remember it vividly too, the actual light itself bouncing, flickering, like an old headlight would of a motorcycle bulb built in that time traveling down a rough dirt road at a fairly fast speed. (Nope, we weren’t going 5mph and I promise you neither was the ominous light. We were both traveling toward each other around 35-45mph.) If it was a car going around a bend, it would’ve disappeared like a headlight would going around a corner. It didn’t, the headlight got bigger. If it was a car, one headlight would’ve turned into two and we would’ve met in the middle. We didn’t. At the point I thought for sure we were going to meet, sorry if I dissapoint someone but no, it didn’t seem to pass through our car and we could then turn around and see a tailight. If that happened to you then you can write about it. In our case it just dissapeared about 50yards in front of us. This time, just like a light switch. Off. We poceeded to freak out, say a bunch of cuss words, stop the car and turn around!!! When we got back to where we started, I don’t know why, but we turned back around, sat there again, flashed our lights, waited, and then yes…there it was again. We just had to see if it could happen twice. We didn’t travel down the road and try and meet it again. I just said let’s go and we traveled the hour back home in total silence. I really do get people talking about the traffic on the other end of the road. I just have to say this one more time to be clear, we moved toward the light and it started moving toward us sharing the same road and the single light was just..poof..gone 50yards from out car. If the ghost is no longer there, then I hope that means he finally found peace. But when he was there, I saw him, and if you saw him too, then forget all the haters on here that were maybe born to late to witness it for themselves, because now you know that you’re not alone.

Oh…and PS Mr. Murray you said it’s been ‘debunked’ by other people, including yourself? However, you failed to say how you or they did it or the evidence you or they collected. I’m not saying you didn’t, but you described what I saw almost perfectly and said in ‘all reality’ I didn’t see it. Seemed pretty real to me. Going to school near there and traveling up and down the road isn’t quit enough data for me. If someone said they saw a 6ft talking mouse and that it was real, telling the person you went to school next to Disney so take my word on it, it’s not real, isn’t quite going to cut it, right? But if I pulled that mask off and showed the person inside the costume, well then, now we’re talking!! This is really for anybody, if someone reputable has figured this mystery out and I missed the reveal, please share it so I can stop telling this story!!!

We live in a subdivision off Roberts Rd, which intersects Greenbrier (Ghost Road). As a bit of background, 12 years ago, when we moved in, Greenbrier was a dirt (sand) road typically not used by cars except for those that lived there.
Anyway…My 19 year old daughter just relayed her Greenbrier Rd experience to me. It happened a couple of months ago as her and my other daughter (17) were traveling west bound on 210, onto Greenbrier, from US 1. According to her, it was just after midnight; the sky was completely clear with excellent visibility (no haze, fog, etc.). As they traveled, they noticed what they thought was a motorcycle taillight ahead but oddly, the taillight wandered left and right beyond the bounds of the road. Even the light from the headlight shown into the woods at nearly a 90-degree angle. She said they were really scared because it was dark, they were along and no other cars on the road.
As they continued west towards home, the taillight disappeared. After a moment of relief, she said suddenly there was a single headlight in the rearview mirror of the Vue. She said that was really odd because, after seeing the taillight, she was constantly looking in every direction and they were completely along on the road only moments before.
She said she thought the headlight was from a car with the right bulb burned out. Thing is, she said there were no sounds of a car…or, motorcycle for that matter. When she saw the right turn lane appear to turn onto Roberts Rd., she did quickly as she was totally freaked. As she moved over, she expected the light to pass on the left. When she looked, the light wasn’t there; it wasn’t behind and wasn’t ahead – it had disappeared. To this day, she is so spooked by the experience, she can hardly talk about it and said just the thought resurrects the feeling of evil she had that night.
I’m typically a skeptical person but after hearing her story and seeing too many other similar posts, I’m a believer.
