Real Haunted House

Ghost Road

Chesterton, Indiana

About one hundred years ago a woman left her young son with a baby-sitter and when she returned, her home was ablaze. Frantically, she ran inside to try to find her son, but only found the baby-sitter. The woman searched the woods around her house for her baby. So overcome with grief was she, that the woman died of a heart attack. If one drives to Ghost Road and parks, he may see the woman–a whitish-blue light hiding behind trees. She may also be seen rocking in a chair in a field across the road.

ya that is true although you do not get the full scared affect now that it is black topped.the road used to be gravel.another story is that the woman and her child were running from her abusive husband into the woods.the child and the mom got separated and died in the woods…the woman is still trying to find the child.many have seen a white light and a woman in a white dress.

Hey, Have any of you read the gray notice box above where you type a comment? It says… and I quote, “Please use correct grammar, capitalization, and punctuation. Let’s try to keep this place looking classy. Real Haunts reserves the right to remove any comment that does not adhere to this requirement or is otherwise inappropriate.

Any post containing a link will be flagged for moderation due to recent comment spam. Feel free to include relevant links, but please know that it will delay your post.” Un-quote.

Now I don’t believe any (except a few) of you were using ANY of those. So please, for the sake of the language which you speak, follow those rules.

As for the actual story, it is just that, a story. It is in no way the truth, if you believe that it is true… go ahead and check. Yes, it could inded be deemed “Scary”, but it is in no way true.

Oh… and the woman in white isn’t the same ghost story.

I grew up just a quarter-mile from Ghost Road. It is that portion of 1050 North between 50 West and Meridian Road in Liberty Township.

The story is attributable to a prank played out in 1968 and described above. At that time the road had one house on the south side own by Mr. Bushore (who drove a bus for the Duneland School District). There is a very shallow swampy area south of the the road about halfway between 50 West and Meridian…more towards 50 West than Meridian. If lights are flashed off the swampy area at night and the night cools enough to create light fog, then you can get some really neat light effects when viewing from the road.

At the time the prank occurred, 1050 North west of 50 west was dirt with a tree growing in the middle of it, and that part between 50 West and Meridian Road was essentially dirt with a bit of gravel.

haha i dont believe this one.
it would be a better story
if they said like you could see the women running throughout the woods looking for her child
why would she be rocking in a chair?
or hiding behind trees.

im over at annies with alexis!
not that any of you know who the hell they are!

Some of the posters here need to spend more time getting educated and less time ghost hunting. The spelling is what’s frightful.

I was a teenager in Chesterton at the time this horrific tragedy was supposed to have happened. The story has grown over the years, and though a great tale to tell the kids, it never happened. There are documented homes in the Chesterton area, however, that have proven to be haunted. Try researching the old “Bratcher Home” or ask a “local” about “Diana of the Dunes!” Now there are some ghost stories!

Yikes! I am really amazed at the poor grammar, spelling, and punctuation on this site. The credibility of the entries with errors is definitely in question. The mentality of some of you is quite obvious in your writing.
As for the story itself, well….

Come on you guys! This is all OPINION! You take this way to strong and that is not right at all you are not only making the story look bad but yourself too. This is a “Ghost Story” Story is not the same as fact I will admit but come on you guys are taking it a whole different way. Think about it some things facts cant prove…Can facts prove what happenes when we die? No because you would have to talk to the dead and talking to the dead would be the same thing as talking to a ghost. Either way it is 50/50 both can be right and both can be wrong…just chill listen to the story if you have a problem dont comment.

I live right by Ghost Road. Its really creepy at night. The tress make sort of a tunnel. I heard a story about a women who went for a walk with her baby in a stroller. An old man who live on Ghost Road saw a figure pushing a cart and sicced his dogs on them. Later he found the body of the women and a tattered stroller but no baby. After that all night every night he heard a baby crying until he went crazy and confessed. Now they say at mignight you can see the mother walking pushing her stroller.
