I am a big Glensheen fan and have gone on the tour multiple times…I’ve taken the ‘extended tour’ which allows you to go to the upstairs area…It is very cool…before going on one of my tours I read the book about the murders and in the book it says that on the stairs leading up to the 3rd floor there is a blood stain from where the nurse maid was murdered…and while walking on our tour I did notice a dark stain on the same flight on stairs…so that is pretty cool I think!!….but as far as a ‘presence’ or anything that has NOT happened to me…but i guess I can’t say it hasn’t for otheres =)

“The top floor is not safe because there is only on exit/entrance to that floor so it is not up to code. If you’re going to take tours of people up there, they need to build a fire exit. That’s all.”

I am a docent/tour guide there. If it was not considered safe and inspected by the fire dept we couldn’t take people on tours there. We are only allowed to take a certain number of people on that floor, but I have given tons of tours up there, and we definitely comply with the fire code. If it was illegal, we certainly wouldn’t be advertising it and taking people on the tour!

I once lived in a home that was occupied by at least one spirit so I know what it feels like when there’s an actual presence. I’ve visited the Glensheen Mansion several times and in my opinion there are no ghosts in the home. Because safety standards have been met, we were allowed to tour the entire home from the basement to the rafters of the attic. Not once did I feel a twinge of uneasiness or sense the presence of a spirit — and I knew exactly where the murders/deaths occurred. There is a sense of history and the passage of time but that is it. The style and decor of the home combined with the tragic murders are perfect fuel for the imagination, but Elizabeth and her nurse are not there.

Had an experience on the second floor landing of the Glensheen Mansion. Became dizzy and felt as though i would pass out, also felt a cold chill in the area. I wanted to go to the restroom because i felt so sick, but was so disturbed that i left the tour altogether. It is a gorgeous mansion but i believe it could definately be haunted by spirits!

We were there on a tour four years ago. We took the expanded tour from the attic to the basement. The house is so completely intact with it’s contents that it feels like you’re walking through someones home. As to having a sense of anything there, I got the feeling of it being a warm and happy home. It is truly beautiful. If it’s absorbed anything over the years it’s the warmth and love of the people who have lived there. The many visitors help to keep this feeling in the house.

We toured Glensheen on Oct. 9, 2011 (Sunday) and had a wonderful female tour guide. We were warned by my younger brother that there is one tour guide who is extremely annoying, we are not sure of his name, but he makes an extreme effort to sound flamboyant and English. Sure enough as we were walking up to the “Tours start here” carriage house we could hear him beginning a tour – and thank goodness he was NOT out tour guide, his voice is very annoying and he should be removed as a guide as he is that much of a distraction. So my fiance and I waited and our tour guide was wonderful – The only complaint I have is that our tour group was so large – it was really hard to fit anyone into any of the rooms. I would have loved to take a private tour – and wish that they would offer a private tour (meaning no more than whomever you choose to bring in your own group) — my fiance and I would have loved to have it just be us and the tour guide – to gather more information and to actually get to see each room throughly. I am very in tune with spirits and while in certain locations in the home I could feel a presense, but nothing threatening – prior to the tour I promised my fiance I would try to pin point when I felt anything – not knowing where the murders took place. So I told him, when we got home from our vacation from Duluth – he looked up actual information of the murders and told me I was exactly accurate on which 3 locations in the home have a spiritual presense. The thing most people don’t understand is that Elisabeth Congdon was NOT murdered in her “original room” that she usually stayed in, she was murdered in the room at the end of the 2nd floor hall nearest the elevator (by the staircase) because she had had a stroke they moved Elisabeth to that room, in case they needed to get her to the main floor easily. I did not know this prior to the tour, I just can feel it. Little did I know I was right, which in turn proved to me my ability to sense spirits. It is definitly worth going on the tour – and with the right guide ( have a female guide!) the grounds are lovely. I have many pictures of the outside, one of which has a figure in a window… it is rather eerie. No joke! It’s amazing what a D-SLR professional camera will pick up (from the 2nd floor window of Elisabeth’s last resting place). I have since ordered 2 books – because I know need to know more to get insight into my psychic abilities – my fiance is astounded by this ability and frankly so am I. In case a guide is reading this : You know the male tour guide I am talking about – he is terrible. And private tours would be awesome! We would pay as much as $75 (for only 2 people) for a private tour. The mansion could make more money this way – just an idea. Even if you only did it on certain days. Thanks.

I have visited the Glensheen mansion. I did not know about the murders prior to visiting. While there I took a tour that took us through a blue and white bedroom that was connected to a huge bathroom. While in this bedroom I felt as if I was suffocating. I didn’t tell anyone on the tour about this and just hoped the tour would move along quickly. We next went directly into the bathroom from the bedroom and I still had a creepy feeling while in there also. I did not feel better until I was back out in the hall. I later told my mom about what had happened and she told me about the murders. I have not been back since. Too creepy for me

I took the extended tour of the Glensheen Mansion this past summer which included the basement and attic. I did not notice anything unusual during the tour.

How was the guy crazed? Was he on drugs?

I used to work at Glensheen. I also used to work at Fairlawn in Superior. Now that is an eerie place. Nothing eerie ever happened (to me) at Glensheen.

The attic had been closed because there are not adequate exits, should a fire or something break out. Has nothing to do with the Congdon murders. It’s open now.

Every old house has someone claims to “feel” cold spots, hear noices, etc. Both Elizabeth and her nurse are in a much better place than that old house.

I actually took a tour of this mansion last summer. The father was murdered as well and I believe the maid was to. Obviously due to respect of the family, they can’t tell you details so I got the book. I haven’t read it yet but I’m going to.

I visited the Glensheen Mansion on 8-28-11 and the staff never mentioned the murder that accured there. They also didn’t mention the blood stain on the walls and the stairs which we had to walk up. The whole time I had an eery feeling and felt cold in some rooms. It is a magnificent house but that was very creepy. I have no doubt that the Glensheen Mansion is haunted.

I visited the mansion today and although I want to believe everyone’s stories and I feel each person has their own experiences and I never want to undermined them however, the mansion is booked for weddings almost all year long and is it occupied by many workers and people that truly adore it. I looked at the mansion as a venue and the murder was mentioned the room was pointed out and although the mansion has some level of being a little eerie doesn’t mean that its haunted and all things with history are, to some degree, eerie. It’s completely worth the visit they have had years and year and years of weddings there including those in the Congdon family and it amazing…. weird sure. Is the story sad of course! Are good memories and stories from there? Yes!
