Real Haunted House

Governor’s Bridge

Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Many years ago, a young unmarried teen-aged girl became pregnant. Afraid to tell her parents, the girl took her newborn baby and dropped it over the side of the bridge. Realizing what she had done, the girl jumped from the bridge and fell to her own death. Today, the woman stands in the middle of the bridge, frightening drivers. One truck driver drove into the side of the bridge trying to avoid hitting the woman. When police went to investigate the scene, there was no evidence of anyone having been on the bridge.

The bridge is located in Bowie, Md. on RT.301 north right on Governor’s bridge road before you get to Rogers Chevy car dealership. I use to fish there when I was a kid and got very creepy feelings. Watch out for the goatman also!!!!

I have lived in Annapolis my whole life and have gone over this bridge millions of times…first off, the bridge is only like 10 feet from the water, so if someone jumped off they would definitely NOT die, probably not even break a leg. I have gotten out at the bridge and there is a car upside down in the water right under the bridge. Probably just an old piece of junk. But it is creepy down there…

I’ve heard of this place and it’s tale, so Friday night (Oct 24th) a few friends and I decided to go check it out. It was late about 12:30 and we parked and got out. We walked across the bridge and didn’t see or hear anything out of the ordinary. It was definately an eerie feeling but anywhere you go at night in the woods is going to be eerie. As we were crossing back over the bridge my girlfriend and I saw a white light/flash in the woods to the right of the bridge if you were coming from the AACO side. I google mapped the area and found no road close enough to have seen car headlights. Not sure what it was but in previous posts some have seen this light/flash as well. Gonna check it out again soon!

My friends and I used to go out to the bridge quite a bit (we lived in Annapolis) and had heard a different reason for the haunting. We had heard that kids had been playing chicken (it was a one way bridge)and had an accident, killling all involved. If you looked to either side of the bridge you could still see (i don’t know if they have removed them) wrecked cars. We also heard that there was a satanic cult that worshiped just past the bridge on the PG county side. The area certainly had a “bad” feeling to it.

one of my best friends said that she went down that road after a party one night with a friend of hers. they had the radio on full blast and when they got to that area of the road the radio turned off and they heard a baby crying. she said it was so loud it sounded like it was in the back seat. i think the story of the prego teen is the real story but im really not sure.

The stories are quite interesting. Is there a place I could give a story?

Governors Bridge is in Davidsonville, MD, Governors Bridge Rd. it is a one lane bridge so there is no way a trucker flew off it the road is way to small for a semi. But i have been there a bunch of times and it is pretty scary standing on the bridge at night.

To each his or her own when it comes to the so called paranormal. I have been to the bridge several times, and the Natural Resources park downstream; yesterday as a matter of fact. I find, personally, that I am not interested in events that need midnight, a full moon, mist, rain, or isolation; I’ve grown weary and leery of events with all the “bangs and whistles”. I like my events under a bright sun, subtle, very subtle, and sometimes barely perceivable as odd until much later. For example, if I had encountered a young girl yesterday down by the canoe launch on the Patuxent; perfectly normal, except perhaps her clothes would seem “dated” 1950’s. She would ask me, oddly for a stranger, if I had any children. Maybe the air would seem cooler; perhaps it would be the breeze across the brown flowing water, nothing more. Perhaps she would be attractive yet something about her would make me, a grown man, more afraid than attracted to her. She would walk away muttering something I couldn’t exactly make out. Only later would I realize that she had said “President Eisenhower.”
I would walk back toward the parking area, looking for her.
I would never see her again: broad perfect daylight; a slippage in time and reality; that would be my taste in a haunting. Was she a ghost or a mentally disturbed teenager?
It’s the subtle little doubts that make paranormal events exiting to me. I don’t have to chase ghosts; they find me.

I went to Governer’s Bridge or Crybaby bridge, whatever you want to call it, tonight April 27, 2009 by myself in my ‘85 Corvette. The engine in my car is loud enough to wake the dead so I figured it might stir up any ghosts if the legend(s) of this supposedly haunted bridge are true to any degree.

Unfortnately ladies and gentleman I am afraid to report that the bridge being haunted or frequented by paranormal beings and/or activities is a lie. I don’t scare easily and I saw nothing out of the ordinary for a one lane bridge deep in a wooded area. I also saw nothing to be afraid of or to give anyone an eerie feeling. Quite the reverse actually, there is a lot of resturaunts and a big Ourisman Honda car dealership on the left on the way to the bridge off Route 301 South. The bridge is located at Governer Bridge Rd and Route 301 South near Bowie, MD. For the curious people I am going back on Monday morning and I’ll take some pictures of the bridge and entire wooded area sorrounding the bridge including the underside of the bridge for anyone who is curious to see this “haunted” bridge during the day. Just check the link I gave for my website. Hopefully the weather will cooperate with me and it’ll be a dry hot day like it was on Sunday. Wish me luck.

As I mentioned in my post, I believe, I take the John Keel (Mothman Prophesies) approach to psychic phenomenon. So called encounters with the unknown realm do not last in one area forever, and obviously the Governor’s bridge did not collapse like the Silver Bridge over the Ohio, though there was a fatal accident in the relatively recent past. I also frequent the area often and the most dangerous entities I have encountered are tics. The most bothersome have been living humans who believe that their dog is too noble for a leash. I have no idea what people were encountering there in the past. Do I believe that it’s gone now? Yes, I think it is possible. Although I have learned that you cannot be specific about time when you are dealing with beings that ignore it.

I’ve never been to this bridge before but want to visit it soon. Trust me….if I visit ANY paranormal site, nothing EVER happens. Maybe it’s me or my karma. And I want to believe. Been to Gettysburg so many times to so many “haunted” areas only to see nothing.

I would suggest John Keel’s book, or if you don’t have the interest, whatever its merits or lack thereof, the movie The Mothman Prophesies can give you a rough feeling for certain things. We may need to finally admit that we are dealing with phenomena that when it occurs may depend of location, time, and the individual person. I have come after many years of study and thought, to believe that we may have no need to build spacecraft to find aliens, or wait for a visit. Entities might exist or even physical beings, that have their origin on our own Earth, but do not now, nor have they ever, inhabited our “reality”. Hidden; they are masters of illusion and camouflage, to a degree that even our 21st Century technology avails us not. I know it feels like finger nails on chalkboard to say that psychic phenomena may not be “democratic” in the selection of who gets to experience it, but that may well be the case. Also, the motives of these entities might be so far removed from what the human mind calls reason, that any attempt at understanding is futile.

Okay, me & my friends call ourselves “The FreeTime Tards.” We do stupid stuff all the time and film it and blah blah blah. We’ve started to do ghost stuff as part of our videos now. This is one of the many places we decided to test out first. We went to this bridge 4 times (once including Halloween) and we haven’t seen anything. We stood up there for nearly a half hour filming each time and nothing was seen. We yelled “I Killed Your Baby,” like some people have said to do to get her to appear, and nothing was spotted. The only thing we felt was freezing cold temperatures and that’s because we were over water. We declared the stories of this bridge fake. No car was spotted either that was supposed to disappear as it seemed to hit you head on. However, we do agree that this can be a really creepy and eerie place at nightfall with fog and silence surrounding you.

Ah, the innocence and energy of youth! I fear the phenomenon may not operate by scientific method in this universe, nor is it as predictable as the crossing of Venus. If it were, we would all be summoning spirits to go scare the hell out of those who malign us and there would be a M.C.U. (Magical Crimes Unit) in every major police force in the country. The trigger for these events may well lie in the sub-conscious, whose capabilities far and beyond the ego’s might be better suited at handling them.

To be honest I’ve been on this bridge and the road itself many times and it is never the same twice and it never feels the same and it is also an astral battleground which is why you can see many many strange things along the entire road like abut a month before yesterday I was on it and one of the fences was a nice looking white picket fence and i went on the road yesterday and it was a brown picket fence that would go up and down in height and no this was not a trick of the eye i drove it twice last night and then a little farther down the road it had a single segment of the white picket fence that I had seen the month before but on the other side of the road as well as I have seen strange things on the road which I refuse to go into as well as the fact that for some reason (and yes this will sound very strange) but the curves in the road move and change every time you drive it my personal advise is try to avoid that road unless your looking for trouble if you want more info on haunted places in the Annapolis Bowie area send me a message on myspace or something and id love to tell you some very very strange ones

Take a look at an ADC map. Look at who is just a half mile upstream of the bridge: U.S. Air Force Transmitter Station…HELLO! As far I am concerned, all bets are off now. I know, I know, from my personal experience as a child growing up on a farm next to Harry Diamond U.S. Army labs on Cherry Hill Road near Adelphi MD, it’s a chicken or egg thing…does the military cause these events or, do they build facilities close to zones with temporal anomalies? Bottom line is this: who knows what Air Force signals can do to some minds? Make you see the road curve change? Oh, yeah!
