Me and some friends just got back from the hospital last night. That place was creepy as hell and we couldn’t even get in. The whole place is boarded up. the only way we found in was to climb on the A/C vent in the back, but we figured if we needed to high-tail it out of there, then it probably wouldn’t be a good idea. It’s just really creepy how there are lights on in some of the rooms some of the time and other lights will be on at other times.

Either way, we decided to go check out a building right next to it. It looks like the boiler room maybe? And the doors to this building are cracked open and we went to investigate. As soon as we started shining the flashlight in there, we heard a look pounding noise on the roof, and that was enough for us. We booked it so fast out of there, but unfortunately ran into the cops. They gave us a warning and told us to never go near there again.

I strongly believe that there is something in the hospital and many locals know stuff that we don’t. We asked a couple of people that live in Guthrie about the hospital and they just didn’t even want to talk about it. There is something up with that whole town. It’s just so dark and I know that the hospital is haunted. I believe in ghosts now because of it.

It was not a boys home it was a children’s home housing both boys and girls. My Father grew up in that home. They didn’t have nurse maids they were mattrons some of who were extremely cruel and some of whom were sweet old ladies. It was run and owned by the masons. most of the stories you’re telling about it are not true. There are tunnels in the basement underneath it, and at a reunion I attended with my dad when I was very young too young to go along they were going to explore them but even as adults who had grown up in that home they got way scared. I’ve been inside my dad even showed me his old room. He and his 4 brothers and sisters all lived there. the only deaths that occured were accidents one in the pool and I believe in the furnace but it may have been the print shop.

I grew up in Guthrie, I went to school with children who lived in the children’s home. Not haunted, lots of rumors surround old, deserted buildings. The children were fairly happy, now as for the old hospital, both of my parents worked there when it was still open. Yes, it has some very odd happenings. my mother used to work on the 4th floor where surgery was. at night she would sometimes get called out to help with a surgery. she would be cleaning up after one and being the only one on the whole floor, she would hear someone call yoo hoo, and no one would be there. the elevator would open and close and no one was there to push the button. (old- button had to be pushed to get elevator) you always felt like someone was watching you. the 5th floor was for storage mainly but as a teenager I would volunteer and occasionally have to go up there for paper work or a desk or bed. up there, the lights would come on and go off without being turned on, no auto timer or sensor. you could hear people talking but couldn’t make out what they were saying. sometimes it took an hour to get the elevator because it would get to the floor but not open. I hated to go to the 5th floor alone, and I usually left via the stairs! you always had the sensation that someone was waiting just around the corner to grab you! many people have had experiences there. at the time it was owned by the nuns, lots of death and trauma went through those halls. by the way, the masons do not do magic or have demon rituals my whole family was and are masons, shriners, and eastern star and are very much christians. but rumor has it Guthrie does have a couple of witch covens and hence the “creepiness” of the town. there are many haunted houses in the Guthrie area however they are all privately owned and the owners may not appreciate the publicity that “ghost hunters” can tend to bring in their neighborhoods. not to mention it occasionally lowers the property value. hope this clears up some of the rumors. I am also a sensitive so I easily recognize “spirits”, the childrens home may harbor residual “saddness” but no paranormal activity. sorry folks.

Over the years, I’ve been in the old place dozens of times. I’ve slept in the bell tower and found the old tunnels under the building in the east end. There is a huge pool that can be explored underneith as well. When you have spent time in that building overnight, and by yourself, then you can make a determination as to whether it is haunted or not. Paranormal activity doesn’t just perform on cue either. But as many times as I have explored the place, the only thing I ever witnessed was a strange breeze that just suddenly occurred in a room without windows. The place is a battery for sad and negative energy though. It is permeated into the structure itself. Bad vibes. But I have never seen anything in there.

I grew up one block behind the old hospital in Guthrie. I even used to walk on the little drive right against it as a short cut to get home. Not once did I ever sense anything paranormal, even after all those years living literally in the shadow of it, and I am not someone who is a doubter of such things. Trust me, the only scary thing about that place is the hazards of a crumbling building. Which is why it is monitored by the police so closely. My grandfather said the town couldn’t afford to have it demolished as it originally planned. Asbestos etc.

The Masonic children’s home in Guthrie was not only a boys home it was a childrens home and was not haunted. The tower was actually the Incinerator that they burned the trash in, no one lived in the tower. My mother was raised there from 1962 until 1968. My aunts and uncles were also raised there, they were the largest family there with 6-7 children and my mother was the youngest ever raised there at six years old. She loved the people and was well cared for. We vistited in the 80’s with the old headmaster and again in 2002, the people who had bought it allowed us to go through it when they were renovating. Nothing horriable happened there and no-one killed themselves. You people are silly.

Daniel: There *IS* something in the old hospital. They are called OKC-PRG. And yes, there IS something up with the whole town of Guthrie. Specifically drugs and gangs. Guthrie has shocking problems for such a small town. It is not generally a nice place, particularly to those who are not local. I would like somebody, ANYBODY, to show me one newspaper article about any of these BS stories about the boys home. At the Daily Oklahoman website, you can keyword search every single newspaper back to 1903 or something. Find just one article. I hate to be a downer, but you people are making up backstories for the place that are completely fabricated. But hey, we all need to amuse ourselves somehow, so by all means carry on. Jen – I have some good pics of the *outside* of the old hospital I took in 2001. When I was inside in the middle of the night in the late 80’s, we did not have a camera. If you still want them, post a response and I will email them (I see our posts are almost 6 months apart, though, so I am not expecting a response). Good day all. – Tim

I want to tell you people going on about the lights that go on and off that what you are seeing is the activity of the group OKC-PRG. The building is NOT abandoned anymore. It is a paranormal research project with a lot of expensive equipment in the building. They are there legitimately, and you are unwittingly tresspassing into a place where your crime of breaking and entering is going to be recorded by multiple cameras. It’s not really cool to enter the building anymore (and not really possible anyway, from what you guys are saying). I was there in the middle of the night with a group of teenagers in I think 89. With the exception of one girl, none of us knew about or had ever heard about the place. I do not know whether ghosts exist or not (and dare I say, neither do any of you). Our attitude was not “hey, let’s go see ghosts”, or “hey, let’s go and prove that there aren’t ghosts”. We just drove up from Yukon because we were bored and a girl in our group knew of the place and wanted to go up there. The topic of ghosts did not come up as I recall. So, there we were, in the middle of the night, exploring the old hospital using torches for light. We were not looking for, and did not see any ghosts. It was just a creepy abandoned building. I am sorry if this offends some of you (attn: Terri). I would like to point out that if there were *really* ghosts there, me and my friends would have been *perfect* victims because we were totally unsuspecting. We would have been ghost fodder. Terri says that me and my friends did not see ghosts because we “fear the unknown”. I don’t know what she means. We did not fear the unknown. We did not fear anything that night known or unknown except for the cops. Some of you say that we would not recognize ghosts if they bit us in the butts. Well, if they are so plentiful (they were not), where’s your proof? Why has OKC-PRG not made headlines by finally coming up with the conclusive proof that ghosts exist? If they are as plentiful as you people claim, they should have proof by now. As it turns out, and I credit OKC-PRG for this, they do not apparently make false claims because they have nothing (proof-wise, anyway. They might have stories). I have seen pictures they took of things that looked like paranormal activity, and they themselves debunked the pictures with logic. They are okay in my book, and I wish them luck in their pursuits. I use the term ‘goofballs’ with affection. A lot of you have strong opinions that ghosts exist, and that’s cool, like I said, they might, I do not know. But just because a place is abandoned and creepy looking does not automatically make it haunted. I know. I was there as unsuspecting ghost fodder when the place was REALLY abandoned (again, it’s not now). The ghosts, however, were NOT there. I am sorry to disappoint. It is just a building. Terri says ‘knowledge is power’. Well, I have *real* knowledge of the old hospital. I was there in it’s natural abandoned setting, and not on a guided tour like she was. Some of you people go to great lengths inventing or repeating stories that are too easily debunked, like all the BS stories about the Boys Home, or Masonic home, or whatever it was called. These types of obvious fabrications do not help your case. They just make you look like a loon, and basically discredit you completely for all that you say. But please carry on. Don’t be dissuaded by me. Afterall, this is an anomymous forum, and these always bring out the loons. Good day. – Tim

the orphanige in guthrie is and has been a place for wedding rehursales, weddings, and honeymoons.the only way in is if your getting actually married.it looks nothing like it once did.there are flowers everywhere, only the main building and one other exist.there is no sign at all of any orphanage.nor spoken of.owned like almost all of guthrie, masons, have very deep secrets that will not ever be known unless n actual member.oh,yes the place was and is still very haunted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tim says:

September 23, 2008, 12:24 pm

Right Christy. Not spoken of. That is why everybody in the entire state knows it was the masonic chidrens home. Nevermind the people who were raised there saying NOTHING happened like the stories you people concoct. I mean, they were just freakin raised there. What could THEY possibly know?If YOU say it is haunted and evil masons slaughtered children and whatever else, then by God it MUST be true!! I imagine if you sign up for the masons, the first thing they do is fill you in on the slaughtering of the children. The info is probably provided in an intro packet or something.

Someone did buy it. And remodeled it in to a very large home. I used to go thru there in high school back in the ’90’s and there are a few ghosts. In the basement where the pool room was there was a pool. in the deep end there was a triangle cut out in the pool wall. Just big enought toget thru. There was a feeling of saddness, a feeling of being a cage. It is said that there where cages in there. I never had anything bad happen to me there. But there are others who where hurt very badly.

christy says:

September 24, 2008, 8:56 pm

I did not ever say persons that are affiliated w/or part of the masons were slaughering children.the mason people and their worship are something that is not “heard of”by just anybody.their worship does not include slaughtering of children.whatever the case may be,the orphanage and its happenings is a hush situation.no one person will ever truly know what actually happened there.whatever the case may be,the people of guthrie at that particular time did somewhat try to cover up the true story.

Tim says:

September 25, 2008, 1:15 am

The “true story” is that foster care of children shifted from orphanages to individual foster homes. Unfortuneately it is as simple as that. I truly wish it were some really cool and scary story about the home. It just isn’t. The same shift to foster homes happened to most orphanages nationwide. Also, I am pretty sure that the masons are a christian group (I think George Washington was an early member). I digress, however. I do not want to be the one to squash a little small town ghost legend, so please carry on. I will agree that Guthrie people are weird and secretive in general. Even that night in the 80’s when me and my friends went to the old hospital, it was kind of odd. We asked people where the hospital was when we went into town. The first couple of people simply refused to tell us. I mean they just walked away when we mentioned the place. Somebody finally did tell us, but they made it very clear that if the cops caught us there, it was straight to jail. I did not take this as anything ominous, and still don’t. I just assumed that Guthrie is one of those towns where people don’t really like outsiders. Fine with me. I am an outsider that never really liked Guthrie. To me it is a contest between Guthrie and El Reno as to which is the worst city in the state. Although in fairness to Guthrie, I think El Reno is quite a bit worse. Granted I have not been in OK in many years. Maybe Guthrie and El Reno have changed. Somehow I don’t think so, though… – Tim
