Guthrie’s School for boys was once a youth detention center, but is now abandoned. It is said that a dark figure now haunts the bell tower located in the center of the school.

I revisited the Guthrie Boys Home this past year (2008) in May. It is now a lovely place with well-manicured lawns and incredible landscaping. A coat of paint, and some cheery curtains have transformed this place into a cheery domicile. Nothing spooky left.

I will agree. It is a beautiful place. They owners have really taken care of a historic landmark. I will bet though that the underground tunnels I have heard of are still kinda spooky since I can imagine they are not as up to date as the rest of the home. I just took the pics about 2-3 weeks ago.

I’ve been to this place and you can crawl in a small hole, BUT dont expect to walk too far because there is a motion sensor alarm system inside the house and we had to run out and run to our cars to get out of there before the cops came. Unfortunately, some people that were walking inside with us werent so lucky and they were escorted out of town by the police.

Who all has been down the corridor with the water around the edges and at the end it has a triangle knocked out of the brick wall and there is a dirt room on the other side of it? And how about the room with the throw switch and the vertically opening door? Has anyone ever heard the dogs chasing them? I’ve been there! How about the huge room with the wide boards on the floor but with 1-2 inch gaps between the boards?

I just recently found this site and noticed the conversations about the orphanage. My ex, me and some friends were regurlar attendees there so to speak. My ex’s step dad stayed there once when he was a child and a boy scout. He said it was really uncomfortable and the Sisters there were mean to the children. We use to go ever weekend, I use to stand out side behind a small brick wall that use to be infront of the iron gate, That is when I noticed two child like figures in the windows above the main entrance, I bent down and so did they, it was like they were playing peek-a-boo with me. I also witnessed a small red ball that would bounce in front of the door, I also seen a book in the window seal of the bell tower but there was no way to get there too it. I heard the bell ring several times. There is a cat that lives there that has been ran over, shot, and so forth several times and still to this day lives. The neighbors watch the place closely.. if they see you around the cops arent far behind. The tunnels of gutherie go along way around the town and even under the orphanage. My sister spent alot of time in that place and alot of stuff happened while she was there… she wont talk about alot of it because it scares her…. people that say that it is not haunted is full of it… and as far as no one living there,,, that is wrong as well… the family there is crazy… it wouldnt surprise me one bit if either their animal or kid one came up missing… from what I hear if you get in the basement, your gone… I dont know for sure.. I never made it that far…

I have lived in Guthrie all my life and one of the places everybody says is haunted is the Logan County Memorial Hospital… I’m afraid to say it is NOT haunted… it’s just an abandoned hospital. The other places are The Governor’s Mansion, The Stone Lion Inn, and some say the Pollard Inn. I do believe ghosts trust me on that one but i believe any “ghosts” are in the eye of the beholder.

I have lived outside guthrie all my 33 years. Me and my friends went to the boys home almost every weekend to try and get scared but i can honestly say i never saw or heard anything but a bum sleeping in there. The boys home is now a caterer for large parties.

There are ppl who have tried to get into that hospital over last Halloween and were arrested. It was on another website and it was supposedly the cops of Guthrie who had posted the arrests, actually about ten ppl they reported. So they said they were informed ppl were breaking in because the cameras in the building feed into the police station as well as Oklahoma Paranormal Investigations. I have not personally tried to see the place since I came up on that bit of info, but keep us informed please if u happen to go in or get caught or both.:)

Supposely, one of the women who worked at the orphanage accidently killed a boy,to hide the body,in the basement, one of the walls just happened to be crumbling.she placed the boy in the hole and repaired it.it was assumed the boy ran away.months later there were problems w/the plumbing, the woman refused to let the plumber into the basement.years past the woman killed herself in the basement, hung herself.when a plumber finally had gotten down there they discovered a wall crumbling assuming that it had to be from a pipe that burst.they cleared the ruble.that is when the boys remains were discovered.also, one of the janitors hung himself in the bell tower.Don’t know the story behind that?have heard of a couple random oppinions???????

I have heard that freemasons are satan worshipers and that the masons also ran the orphanage, so that would make sense to me, christy, about ppl killing themselves. I have heard the same stories u have too, so how weird is that? BTW levi ur welcome.

Sis any of you people that saw figures in the windows and lights and all that **** stop and think that if there are 137 comments on this little website about the place being haunted and all the people that used to go in there and the figures and lights could have been other people sneaking in and checking the place out? It is not haunted and nothing bad happened there. I will tell you something freaky though…the captcha at the bottom to verify for me to post is ADOPTED! Rather fitting for the haunted orphanage post!

I grew up in Guthrie as well and The Masonic Boys home in Guthrie IS IN DEED HAUNTED. The children there were treated very badly. I know because a member of my family worked there when it was open. It was horrible my grandmother told me. She use to go by there and say prayers for all the boys. I myself have never went up to the place only because of the stories she told me. My grandmother would cry and get so scared to even talk about that place.

I took some pictures of the orphange, thinking it was the hospital, but oh well… I have some digital pics of the INSIDE and out after traveling 2 hours from near Ardmore, Ok. I am glad our tour guide didn’t know where the abandoned hospital was, and took me to the orphanage instead, because I am aware that I would have been arrested since the camera feeds in the building are checked by the police. By the way Oklahoma PRI, thanks for ruining it for others, including UN-vandalizing urban explorers. I would loved to have taken a few harmless pics… As for anyone who is interested in seeing the pics and the story behind how I got them, e-mail me at lil_T_376@hotmail.com
