Hangman’s Tree
During the antebellum period, a slave was caught in the heat of passion with a white female. Consequently, he was taken to an oak tree near Lake Pontchartrain and hanged. If one goes there late at night, he will hear the snapping of the rope and will see a shadow swinging back and forth against the tree.

The tree is located on the street side of the levee that runs along Bayou St. John. It faces Beauregard Ave between Robert E. Lee Blvd. and the Lakeshore Dr. in Lakeview, the Spanish Fort subdivision. The fort ruins are still there after Hurricane Katrina. The Spanish Fort area begins across the street from the northeast corner of City Park.

I know the area you refer to, Alexa, but I’d always heard it was in City Park (which is a mere stone’s throw from where you cite).

I know the tree that by the old Spanish Fort that Alexa is referring to. When looked at from a specific angle, it looks like a man hanging, but when you see it from a frontal position, you can see that it is only a limb. I’ve never heard any sounds of a rope snapping or any shadow swinging back and forth. When looked at from the right angle, it does give you the creeps and the vibe of someone hanging from the tree. It’s worth checking out if you’re in the area. I’ve taken various people there to see it and they all agreed that it is a spooky scene.

Kaitlyn, you are obviously in the dark of the present relationships between black and white people. It’s everyone else’s choice if they choose to be with different races of people. You should really consider the idea of interracial relationships. You are probably related to someone BBLLAACCKK along the line.
